Other questions for EMC - can the new stuff (IDC "platform 3") grow fast enough to offset the declines of "platform 2?" Can EMC's "cloud-in-a-box" (aka Nile) and partner strategy effectively compete w amazon AWS (at scale)
The big questions for EMC: 1/ Is the "federation" model the secret for EMC to cross the chasm? 2/ Can EMC cut the innovators off at the pass? 3/ is vipr the future of SW-def storage or just a way to stitch the silos together?
If EMC can take #flash to another level then they can make smaller higher performance systems. Federation is about efficiencies and synergies while nurturing their ecosystem
EMC will have to diversify and increase their TAM especially across the federation as EMC get commoditized in the enterprise; Pivotal VMware set to increase in TAM and margin
