At @aerospikedb , our lowest bar is 1M IOPs, 50T capacity, at $2.5/G, per 1U. Anything else is legacy - these are the requirements for real-time big data. Does oracle storage offer that ?

oracle's strong suit (today) imo is file-based storage w/the ZFS appliance. i.e. as a backup target and certain analytics apps (e.g. loading data warehouses)

what you're talking about is real-time big data apps like ad serving

Question for the Oracle folks - you're exploiting certain DB functions that you claim your competitors can't - what are those functions?

Hybrid Columnar Compression--compresses data up to 50X; ADO with HCC, auto tiers and auto compresses data at 100% automation; and OISP for dynamic tuning of critical database parameters.

There's several different compression options for Oracle Database, how are they all different? Anyone comment on this?

Oracle Hardware Different compression algorithms are offered to conserve resources and improve performance - depends on the type of data and compression you use - HCC gets up to 50x compression.

Basically only Oracle storage is auto recognized, auto tuned, auto tiered and auto compressed for Oracle Database 12c. When it comes to other storage systems you get a lot of marketing claims of "integration" but essentially auto nothing happens

ok so how do you balance the need to make your DB most functional (vs competition) versus optimizing the oracle storage infr. - are you saying it's "all-in" for oracle storage?

It's certainly true for high value apps. But for low value apps legacy storage is just fine until its fully depreciated
