Question for Oracle folks - what's the goal for the upcoming Storage Summit Tour? What should people know about it. Why should they attend?
Steven Zivanic
Storage Summit will showcase Oracle storage solutions across cloud, flash and deep archives w customers highlighting their deployments #storagesummit
Jeff Frick Never get enough customer stories!

John Furrier what would their titles be?
Dave Vellante
I'll also be discussing some of the mega trends that we cover on #theCUBE - cloud, mobile, social, #bigdata and what they mean to IT organizations
Crowd Captain We have the Cube at #oow every year for past 4 years http://www.siliconangle.tv
John Furrier and I love hosting @theCUBE at #oow the show has turbo charged in relevance since Larry got some cloud religion :-)
Crowd Captain
main targets I can gather for this USA tour would be Oracle DBAs, storage architects, CIOs, Info Systems Mgrs, IT architects, & CFOs - is this the focus?
Kerstin Woods
San Francisco, March 4th and San Jose, March 5th - looks like a great agenda.

At @aerospikedb , our lowest bar is 1M IOPs, 50T capacity, at $2.5/G, per 1U. Anything else is legacy - these are the requirements for real-time big data. Does oracle storage offer that ?
Dave Vellante
oracle's strong suit (today) imo is file-based storage w/the ZFS appliance. i.e. as a backup target and certain analytics apps (e.g. loading data warehouses)
Dave Vellante
what you're talking about is real-time big data apps like ad serving
Steven Zivanic
Oracle ZS3 offers sub microsecond application response times beyond what you can achieve from EMC VNX, Isilon and NetApp--at lower price points:

@bbulkow are you talking all-flash arrays?

@Gartner just put up a new magic quadrant for all flash market

Question for the Oracle folks - you're exploiting certain DB functions that you claim your competitors can't - what are those functions?
Steven Zivanic
Hybrid Columnar Compression--compresses data up to 50X; ADO with HCC, auto tiers and auto compresses data at 100% automation; and OISP for dynamic tuning of critical database parameters.
John Furrier
There's several different compression options for Oracle Database, how are they all different? Anyone comment on this?
Oracle Hardware Different compression algorithms are offered to conserve resources and improve performance - depends on the type of data and compression you use - HCC gets up to 50x compression.
Steven Zivanic
Basically only Oracle storage is auto recognized, auto tuned, auto tiered and auto compressed for Oracle Database 12c. When it comes to other storage systems you get a lot of marketing claims of "integration" but essentially auto nothing happens
Dave Vellante
ok so how do you balance the need to make your DB most functional (vs competition) versus optimizing the oracle storage infr. - are you saying it's "all-in" for oracle storage?
Dave Vellante
@oraclealchemist we're having a crowdchat, on oracle storage...your insights are always good - goo.gl/4c8X4g

John Furrier
What are the key capabilities offered by Oracle Database when it comes to storage?
Bob Bocchino
#hybridcolumnarcompression is enabled on Oracle Engineered Systems
Oracle Hardware And Oracle Storage as well
Jeff Frick Oracle on Oracle? Is this a better strategy?
Steven Zivanic
OISP reduces 65% of critical tuning requirements for using storage with Oracle Database. It auto tunes logibias and record size, saving over a month of database tuning for the average customer.

If you're still using legacy storage systems with your Oracle Database, then you’re not getting the most return on your investment. Discussion?
Dave Vellante
It's certainly true for high value apps. But for low value apps legacy storage is just fine until its fully depreciated

Oracle's application engineered storage system delivers extreme efficiency and better value, reducing cost, complexity, and risk while increasing performance...
Dave Vellante what does that mean "DB blind?"
Kerstin Woods
DB blind = static storage unaware of the incoming data. Good summary here: http://www.dcig.com/2013/09/the-era-of-application-storage-convergence-arrives.html
The Era of Application-Storage Convergence Has Arrived
