JOIN US: This is a chat-based conversation about how IT is rapidly evolving into a new phase that is making high-end data analytics available on a widespread basis—through the cloud, edge computing and web applications. How will your company use this function?
All good, guys! Hope to meet you in person sometime! (say Paul, I'm coming over to Oracle tomorrow, maybe I'll see you there!) Randall, thanks for joining us -- valuable info from you!
Perhaps we can ask Paul and Randy for a closing summary comment about the future of data analytics in enterprise, and it sure looks pretty bright to me! What do you guys say?
Agreed. One of my colleagues showed me a stat that 90% of the world's data has been created in the last 2 years! Imagine the trove of information that is there. True analysis of that will yield so many benefits in healthcare, finance and education.
Well, have to say I'm somewhat disappointed in our participation here today, although Paul and Randall, you've been fantastic! Usually we have a couple of dozen (or more) folks chipping in with perspectives. This is our 76th #eweekchat, and sometimes shiitake happens!
Randall, that's kind of what journalists like me do ... we see what happened and traverse back to why/how it happened. Man, analytics cold really help me in my job, i suspect!
Q4: Are large enterprises the ones leading the way here, as they do most new tech, or are smaller, midrange-size companies finding good use for analytics?
smaller/midrange are where many of our clients sit and we see them nibbling at the edges of analytics. We focus on "starting simple" as opposed to an huge dashboard that is so big to overwhelm and not provide too much value (or actionable info).
for predictive analytics, the key is having large datasets to work with. It's not always large enterprises and tech companies that have these, but that's the way to bet
having said that, large is relative. If you're a niche company with a well-defined target market, you may have the lion's share of interactions around a particular product category or activity.
