Awww. That's so nice.

John Furrier
@JohnGallant1 Chris Shipley had a way with the demo gods

Chris Shipley
At that moment, on the DEMO stage, I really didn't think he'd dance. I should have known, having seen some worldwide managers meeting videos, that he was game for just about anything.

John Furrier
Chris whats fun about that video was the smiles all around..

PecosMike
Thanks for posting --- great clip to demonstrate his personality and his spirit of generosity

Pat would never shy away from a fun moment like that. Most of us would run and hide...but Pat would both enjoy and then connect it to a current trend (like Dancing with the Stars). He was truly one-of-a-kind. #IDG

So glad I attended the IDG alumni reunion last fall and got to see him there. I knew Pat as an employer and as a client -- delightful experience on both counts. He always put the focus on you, never on himself. He had a gift for making others feel special.

Started @IDC [1964] after a conversation w/ the head of Univac abt the need for some market research abt computers.

Leo Durocher said nice guys finish last. I always thought McGovern proved that wisdom wrong.

John Furrier
what was him management style? hands on or hands off

Paul Gillin
@furrier Strictly hands-off. He was brilliant at analyzing numbers and spotting problems, but he had others do the dirty work.

John Furrier
he also had considerable success with this VC arm with tech investments.

Pat fostered a great culture that became the foundation for much of our success. We were all fortunate to part of his 'worlds'

Patrick J. McGovern: An appreciation
We've lost a brilliant entrepreneur and tech visionary with the passing of IDG founder Patrick J. McGovern.

"I wanted to bring the possibilities to people & get them stimulated about understanding how this technology could help."..When I was in college at Northeastern I read computerworld it was inspiring bc it was the only things talking enterprise
Mitch Betts2
Started Computerworld in part so someone would write abt what worked & what didn't work w/ early computers -- including disk crashes that wiped out lotsa data.

For a billionaire/chairman, he had no entourage or big staff.

Frank Cutitta
His only entourage was the travel companions that had to jog to keep up with him as he bolted through airports around the world. It was always an aerobic travel experience.
