#DOES15DevOps Enterprise Summit DevOps Enterprise is THE event for people who are bringing Lean principles into the IT value stream
Gene Kim
What do you think is most underappreciated about #DevOps in large, complex organizations?
Michael Valentin
the need for culture and organizational structure change
ali alladin
Grappling with integrating legacy applications
Matt Cowger
the morale improvements.
Halie Noble
that things worth doing are hardly ever easy.
Carmen DeArdo
Understanding how DevOps builds on top of Lean and Agile to facilitate variable speed IT is a key awareness in understanding how to structure a DevOps program
Brian Gracely
the need to have common terminology, goals, measurements between teams that didn't in the past. finding consensus is difficult.
Ross Clanton
Definitely culture.... mindsets of your people and how they work together need to be oriented to get value out of DevOps.
Carmen DeArdo
Culture is a key component - also reducing variance in practices create patterns which can be automated
Michael Valentin
Agree with Carmen. I've heard that DevOps doesn't require Agile.
Gene Kim
I rewatched @ScottPrugh talking about the work he's done for a 30 yr old COBOL app and the surrounding tech platforms
Claudia Ring
successfully balancing security/governance with speed
Jan-Joost Bouwman
Culture. You can't just rename your teams to DevOps teams and tell them they are 'doing Agile'. You have to live it and stick with it.
Dr. Tapabrata Pal
Most under appreciated (or overlooked?): Change in mindset
Carmen DeArdo
@JanJoostBouwman agree - Agile is really the middle of the Delivery Value Stream - you have to address both the upstream planning and flow and downstream automation
William Judd
Definition of work. Rigor across the board.
Michael Valentin
most execs just don't understand the notion of "fail fast"
Damon Edwards
Management actions created conditions for these problems & only rethinking management can fix it. Everything else is addressing symptoms.
Scott Prugh
Culture changes and getting teams to collaborate is much more difficult at scale than people recognize.
Evgeny Zislis
people are not keeping an open-mind about changing old habits -- leading to some comic effect instead of valuable change.
JP Schneider
Anytime an org is "doing DevOps", it's undervalued because once you are doing it, it's so simple and "duh" that it seems easy. Before you are "doing DevOps", it seems epically impossible. DevOps, when done right, is inherently undervalued. Hi Gene!
botchagalupe
Kata... vision turns into culture...
Jesse Getzie
To take from the 2015 State of DevOps...HIGHER FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE..."both culture and IT performance predict organizational performance, so improvements in these areas lead to better outcomes — including higher financial performance"
Brent Nelson
that to succeed you need to very intentional in growing the culture
Gene Kim
Hi, @jpschneider! :) Telling everyone about you on the #crowdchat call. :)
Gene Kim
Hi, @jdotp! :) Telling everyone about you on the #crowdchat call. :)
John Furrier
What biggest change has happened in industry since last event DOES14 vs DOES15?
Evgeny Zislis
Docker happened.
John Furrier
Evgeny: Kubernetes is happening now
botchagalupe
agree the landscape changes a bit ... :) But also now Microservices in vogue
Kenton Williston
lol @docker is kind of a big deal
Evgeny Zislis
Kubernetes didn't happen yet, but it is getting there. Mesos is also almost-happened, maybe DOES16 will have those two at the headlines like Docker is right now.
Damon Edwards
Awareness of the problem and dissatisfaction with past attempts to fix ("the cloud will solve this")
botchagalupe
The net net is not product it's landscape...
Jeremy Douglas
ITIL vs Devops seems to be a growing discussion
Jan-Joost Bouwman
not just Docker or Kubernetes. i think DevOps has become much more mainstream
Damon Edwards
It used to "is DevOps for me?"... now it's more "how and when?"
Evgeny Zislis
The supply-vs-demand for people who can contribute to "devops-iness" of an organisation has shifted spiked like crazy. Everyone is leaving their jobs for higher salaries and still the job market is missing a million people to do the work.
Vinothini Raju 🇻
PaaS is getting interesting and gearing up towards choreographing micro services
Jan-Joost Bouwman
for me in my company: definitely ITIL is back from the dead
Sam Fell
According to @gartner_inc DeOps is at the very peak of the hypecycle right about now...
Dr. Tapabrata Pal
Containers - will eat up the world.
Dr. Tapabrata Pal
My fav from DOES14 was from USCIS
Gene Kim
To the #crowdchat panel, what were your favorite talks from DevOps Enterprise 2014 and why?
Gene Kim
My favorite talk, of course, were Target and Nationwide. :) @hmmickman @rossclanton @carmendeardo

I love Courtney's comments around leader mindsets needing to change and the shift from Optimize for Cost to Optimize for speed
Thomas A. McGonagle
Mark Schwartz - U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, Ross Clanton and Heather Mickman - DevOps at Target....Very impressed with both organizations and what they have been able to accomplish with DevOps
Sam Fell
I loved Mark @ Dept Homeland Security. Amazing scale and bureaucracy-busting.
Nikhil Vaze
@HalieNoble Same! Love his humor and content. 'But I'm a sir'! https://www.youtube....
Gene Kim
. @damonedwards: "One of my favorites was @scottprugh, although it could have been five talks. Darn those time limits." :)
Ross Clanton
Schwartz was awesome.. Super funny and super powerful to have a transformation story in government
Sam Fell
I think it was @scottprugh that had a great line I use all the time -- "game day team" vs. "practice team." Love it.
Heather Mickman
Jason Cox's talk on Disney
Robyn Crummer-Olson

Dr. Tapabrata Pal
@HalieNoble If Govt can do it, everyone can
adrian cockcroft
Nordstrom @ladyhock - changed from optimizing for cost to optimizing for speed.
Dr. Tapabrata Pal
I don't remember who said this: but I love this quote "Speed is the new currency"
Thomas A. McGonagle
@topopal Love it! We talk/think about velocity all the time.
Brent Nelson
why limit to just one?
