Bert Latamore
Brett Rudenstein of WANdisco is about to demo NonStop Hadoop on #TheCUBE.
John Furrier
I love demo's on theCUBE
kytsune
Nice. He's talking about how the system handles latency (plus the demos shown are pretty neat) I was listening and glanced over, and the US map was a good distance visual.
Dave Vellante
we just did a survey a large portion (27%) of respondents said lack of enterprise-grade availability was one of the biggest barriers to adoption
Dave Vellante
Now as @furrier is pointing out - continuous availability is the cousin of H/A and a smaller %age of the mkt will need that - perhaps 10%?
Bert Latamore
There is the availability. How is the security?
kytsune
"Continuous availability" is like extreme distance RAID for computation and data -- since all the nodes are the same losing one means the computation can just ask a different one. Looks good for disaster recovery.
Bert Latamore
Does this then eliminate the need for backup? And what is acdtually transferring. Certainly not Pbytes of data.
Bert Latamore
Great presentation. Fascinating technology.

Oliver Ratzesberger, SVP Software, Teradata, live now on #TheCUBE. Leave questions/comments below for John @furrier & @JeffFrick to ask.
Bert Latamore
How does Hadoop interact with Teradata data warehouses?
Bert Latamore
For the first year you’re hearing about business outcomes at Hadoop Summit says John @furrier on #TheCUBE.
Bert Latamore
Moving fast means hours & days. Weeks is already – you’re moving too slow. Agile is not fast enough. But you have to be careful about it. It can easily become the wild wild west says Ratzeberger.
John Furrier
agility can't just be turned on or off says Oliver SVP software from Teradata - epic statement
John Furrier
Talking to Oliver we need a "super agile" phrase - agile is not fast enough
John Furrier
push for agility has to come from higher up from the CIO #Cxo
Bert Latamore
If a project takes longer than 90 days it is too big, says Oliver Ratzesberger. That forces dev into a different mindset where they can only take 20 days for tuning.

@wikibon has badass survey coming out here is one question with numbers https://www.crowdcha...
Hadoop Summit Social Chat
Question: what is the primary driver of Big Data Analytics projects in your organization?
Bert Latamore
You need to open the funnel for new ideas. You need to have thousands of ideas and quickly get to the bottom of which have the greatest chance of success. It is how to iterate and try out new ideas.

Bert Latamore
Ease of use is critical. Not just the infrastructure for getting the data but the infrastructure ford wrangling the infrastructure & getting the value says @furrier on #TheCUBE

Instead of SQL they have Java programmers writing MapReduce queries, which can be much richer and more detailed.
