Linux Hardened Repository is a real game-changer. With it you can have immutable backups on-prem.

Based on the last question i will repeat it again - I am going to mention on our Hardened Linux repository released with v11, https://www.veeam.com/blog/v11-immutable-backup-st... but i think in general it is about making life when it comes to backup easy.

Oh there's so many. Top 11 is going to be hard! For me, personally Hardened Linux Repository for Native immutability is my favourite! #Continuous Data Protection (CDP) has to be the next.

the simplicity with which hardened linux repo's allow us to deliver immutable backups - this is something I am seeing a greater demand for and traditionally it is tricky to do... any Linux instance and within a few clicks we are running.. that is hugely valuable

My favorite one, available on ALL versions, including Community, is the Linux Immutability. Which is part of what is called Hardened Repository.
I mean, free, secure, and power immutability, absolutely democratized. There is now no excuse to not start using it today.

There are so many new features but the key ones for me are the Bring your own linux distribution and storage to have primary based backup storage that is immutable from ransomware and also malicious activity. CDP is a close second and then the iteration on object storage

As a storage guy, I am also really pleased to see some further integrations with our storage vendor partners enabling backup from storage snapshots for our Agents and NAS Backups.

some of the new features around rapid recovery are also valuable - in the end we protect data to recover it, making that easier so in the event of loss we can be operational again quicker is a massive value to business

Another great feature is the replacement of the word "finish" by "browse" in item-recovery wizards :)

@cragdoo The RESTful API can be probably my second best feature in v11 without a doubt. Having the ability to extend Monitoring, or Automate process, or just include these API as part of your Infrastructure as Code journey, top notch.

@vNote42 Agreed! Some organisations have struggled with the spiralling costs of cloud storage for their backups and have had to rely on their own datacentres, by implementing Hardened Repository they can better meet 3-2-1-1-0 best practices!

Surprised Veeam agent for Mac hasn't had a look in yet? Any Mac users out there would massively appreciate this one! Especially in a #Covid19 world where everyone work remotely, this should rank quite high up there

I mentioned Object Storage enhancements and this is really about taking advantage of the cheaper tiers of object storage you find with Azure and AWS and enabling the tiering of your backups to land there in that Write Once Hopefully read never state.

If you ask me about those things that can make your day-to-day operations easier. The support for multi-tag when creating jobs, the ability to see timestamp on the Jobs, or prioritize some Jobs are a winners for me.

A little more on the Hardened Repo, Reliable Ransomware Protection: Keep backups safe with immutable, hardened Linux repositories compliant with SEC 17a-4(f), FINRA 4511(c) and CFTC 1.31(c)-(d) regulations, preventing encryption by ransomware, accidental or malicious deletions

Nothing beats immutable Linux repositories ;) But I still would combine it with tape for offline backups; this way you'll get the best of both solutions against ransomware.

Tape is still not dead! There are quite some new features and improvements for tape support!

Veeam has dramatically reduced the costs involved for organisations shipping data to the cloud too, by leveraging AWS S3 Glacier and Microsoft Azure Archive Blob Storage customers can store longer term retention data for less, helping the ever shrinking IT budget!

@MichaelCade1 extensions to object are impressive opening up the ability for us to better consume cloud "tactically" to utilise cloud easily to deliver things that are hard on prem -we need to allow cloud to be easily integrated into the enterprise this is a great example of that

We also enabled Google Cloud Storage for your capacity tier, an ideal way to copy and / or move your backups into Object Storage for Veeam Scale-out Backup Repository Capacity Tier, providing greater choice of hot cloud object storage targets.

There were some seriously important updates for key enterprise applications such as RMAN plugin for AIX, SAP on Oracle & HANA 1.0 support also which I think would be appreciated by our very many enterprise customers

So, we can proudly say that it unlocks options for SLAs, retention and service delivery to be more resilient and secure than ever before.

But for me personally the breaking of vendor tie-in that Veeam has delivered through the Instant VM Recovery of workloads to vSphere was already a great feature and now Veeam have brought this to Hyper-V as well delivers flexibility to more customers

@vNote42 Tape is one of the best air-gap out there. As one Customer told me once, Tape can be many things, but I can hug my tapes at night and sleep properly. I can not agree more with that comment!

personally what I really liked in V11 was the clear evidence that #Veeam are not only talking to their customers they are listening and acting to solve customer challenges - the value of Veeam listening shouldn't be underestimated

@jorgedlcruz totally - tape is making a comeback. honestly part of the problem w/ tape is co execs don't fully realize the potential & they have shi**y marketing - the use cases are emerging, the costs are compelling and it's still the fastest way to move data

The whole question around tape vrs block vrs object is answered as "it depends" ...they're all tools in the data protection toolbox. Depending on your needs/budget etc, they all should fit in at some point.

@ChanEk81 as a Service Provider Veeam v11 was a double gift, not only did we get the amazing new features in B&R v11 but we also got the Veeam Service Provider Console v5 with expanded support for Veeam Agents, so useful in a pandemic!

@MichaelCade1 Instant recovery everywhere, such a powerful feature of Veeam. Bringing in Instant DB recovery is another level. The explorers for Veeam are great, but sometimes you just need that database image to be fully live again.

Yes, instant recovery features are great! With v11 you can instantly recover VMDKs as FCD (First Class Disk). Use case: Kubernetes for example
