Going Beyond Digital
Thriving in the 21st Century is more than adopting new digital tech. It's going beyond digital.
#DXCTechTalkDriving Digital & InnovationWhat does it mean to 'go digital'? How does that influence the way we drive and deliver innovation?

#DXCTechTalkEnterprises in the CloudOperating your business in the cloud, as a cloud.

@danhushon to quote @satyanadella we need to be 'learn it alls' not 'know it alls' and that starts with the individual. How are you going to #upgradeyourself?
Faisal Siddiqi
Accept that it's not a bad thing to sign up for more #MOOCS than you can possibly complete :-)
Dan Hushon
@Faisal_Siddiqi I find that I learn a ton even if I only get thru the first 2-3 lessons #MOOCS... would love to finish more, but curiosity runs both deep and broad
lewis richards
Need bite sized learning we've found, that's what we look at in 21st Century Human programme, how can you be better tomorrow than you are today. And how do you change your daily habits #upgradeyourself
Nigel Barron
Voracious reader, constant learner. Completed the Blue Prism Learning: Non-Technical & Commercial Stream #RPA recently
Ngoc V Do
yeah, and learning together would be more effective and more...funs
Dan Hushon
@NigelBarron exactly.. but you did it because of your own interest... companies need to state what they're interested in investing e.g. their strategy so that people can align in the center and the 1degrees ahead, and sideways to drive the value chain
Daniel Spithout
upgrading your self starts with true curiosity, not sure if that can be tought... should be in your DNA ... or can you inspire people to be more curious?
lewis richards
@Spithout Can be taught if we can make a passion for people, they have to want to learn for themselves. We've spent ages working with clients on ways to promote this change
Daniel Spithout
making a passsion for people is no easy task, what kind of things would you do to light the fire in people?
lewis richards
@Spithout we always start with them as humans first and employees second. Train for sensing about something they are 'actually' interested in. Get the nudge behaviors going then show them utility in shared learning around a work topic
Nigel Barron
Going back to Don Draper, Fay tells Don that they're working towards the same ends--to resolve every person’s deepest conflict. Which is? Don asks. “It all comes down to what I want versus what’s expected of me.”
lewis richards
And the trick is to line that up, make what the employee wants synonymous with what's expected.

@NigelBarron this also feels like a great blog post!!
Heather Simpson 🌈🍃
you were supposed to be tagged there. Would be nice to have a dualing type post aligning your don draper knowledge with talent

Hippo (Highest Paid Person's opinion) Leadership will continue to be a drag anchor limiting Digital Transformation in Enterprises in 2017. Agree?
Max Hemingway
Agree. There is a lot of untapped digital innovation ideas in the workforces that leaders need to unlock within their organisations.
Faisal Siddiqi
Agree today, but it's encouraging to see that this is gradually changing. Emergence of open collaboration practices and tools are starting to reward capability over hierarchy. https://github.com/d...
Richard Davies
@Max_Hemingway agreed, reverse mentoring may be a good place to start
Glen Robinson
@Faisal_Siddiqi My sense from coming back from the west coast US, the most successful companies all had open source/api approaches. Focus on building ecosystems.
Chris Swan
I think @amcafee nailed it in 'The Diminishment of Don Draper' http://andrewmcafee....
Dan Hushon
anyone ever see an executive goal around improved outcomes from collaborative processes? would love to think thru how to reduce cycle time on collaborative/multiparty decisions
Jonathan McCallister
Agreed...also we have found alignment with University programs to mentor and solicit opinions can help drive a culture of that embraces changing toolsets more rapidly.
Seref Konur
Agree. Need a bottom-up approach...
Sukhi Gill
I am a fan of the crowdfunding model (cf Kickstarter) as a way democratizing idea sharing and funding. if you like my idea, make a mini-investment.
Dan Hushon
do @Klout scores factor into hiring decisions? is there an enterprise version of Klout? so you you could better understand the collaborative paths?
Richard Davies
The outsourcing of coding is also happening to talent. Whole teams of externals being contracted in by the drink!!! Talent Management is key to success here!
lewis richards
We use SocialScore app to keep a leaderboard of people we are interested in. If you are living in an Outside-In world it is YOUR responsibility to show up well. If you don't then you don't care and don't try to sell me that you are an 'expert'
Dan Hushon
@GlenPRobinson ecosystems are key... they, if operating at some value equilibrium (eg. win/win/win) - tend to accelerate
Lisa Braun
@cpswan This is good. Have to finish reading it later.
swardley
@Max_Hemingway : "There is a lot of untapped digital innovation ideas" ... be careful, Blockbuster was first with website, video ordering online, video streaming experiments but also the first to bankruptcy in its industry.
Max Hemingway
@swardley agree, but also being careful not to miss the great ideas - The first digital camera, not followed, market steamed ahead.
Chris Swan
@DanHushon with 'outside in' do we need enterprise versions?
Nigel Barron
@cpswan 'The old-school business oracle was someone like Don Draper who said to a company “I know what will work.” The new version, I hope, is someone who says to a company “I know how to figure out what’s working.” - What about Blockchain?
Chris Swan
@DanHushon did you see @monkchips on 10x engineers and communications? https://redmonk.com/...
swardley
@Max_Hemingway : agreed but it's important to not only anticipate change (i.e. apply common patterns to a landscape) but to manage inertia (i.e. identify and deal with)

We have done a couple of IoT PoC's and presented to clients, it was well received, how do we approach for groups within DXC Global for collaboration
Dan Hushon
this comes back to how do we network on successes and failures to ensure that we are a learning organization
Max Hemingway
Id like to discuss with you and look at what we can share. Working on similar things
Mary Majoros
and sharing those learnings with clients, to reflect we've the "battle scars" from our experiences
Sukhi Gill
we run a knowledge sharing for growth quick dating session where you can 'pitch' for 5 minutes to senior technologists in UK&I and Europe. ping me for details.
Gopal
We have utilized the miniature IoT lab facility @ DXC Chennai India for the abovesaid PoCs
Ngoc V Do
@Max_Hemingway same here, we've done a number of next gen PoCs, if any synergy effort to bring closer to prospects, would love to join
Gopal
@Max_Hemingway Sure, we are happy to collaborate, lets get in touch through email.
Jonathan McCallister
- would love to see some hard core tech demos of those PoC's.
Gopal
@sukhigill Thanks will touch base with you next week
Gopal
@Jonathan, will share you the details.
Faisal Siddiqi
Corporate cultures often reward #firefighting vs #innovation. Both are problem solving techniques. How do we shift from the former to the latter?
Krzysztof (Chris) Daniel
It's necessary to build situational awareness. Without that, you cannot really distinguish #firefighting from #innovation.
Sukhi Gill
Indeed. If we could adopt the reactive behaviour during a Sev1 outage and turn that into the behaviour in proactive problem solving wouldn't that be a great start.
Faisal Siddiqi
Apply a bit of incentive engineering - establish a system to measure and reward based on prevention #gamertheory #devops
Krzysztof (Chris) Daniel
before you do that, you have to understand 'why'. Some things cannot be solved proactively, and besides that, you have to be sure your actions fry biggest possible fish.
Chris Swan
if you reward firefighting you get arsonists
swardley
: to design for constant evolution, you need at least three cultures. The problem is almost always trying to do everything with one.
Dan Hushon
@swardley and enterprise collaboration (pair wise) around the vectors that interlock them... pioneers->settlers, settlers->city planners, and then what about city planners->pioneers? is a circle?
