Q1 What does an insight-driven economy mean for your industry?
David Gerbino
For #FinServ, an insight-driven economy means better product/service design. It also leads to improved segmentation & customer service
Zach Jory
Very pertinent from an #IoT angle, where the real value of IoT is from insights that can be gleaned from all the data connected devices are generating
mark simmonds
It means competitive advantage - acting on the moment - "Right-Time" analytics.
Brian Fanzo
It means leveraging data, technology and social in real-time so that you can engage & provide value at the RIGHT TIME!
jameskobielus
In high-tech, it means that our customers use data, analytics, intelligent search, and social media to research their options online before they ever think to connect with a salesperson. A self-service buying journey.
Mike Tamir, PhD
Our mission @galvanize is to train #DataScientists and provide expert #Machine Learning services that drive insights.
The shift to an insight-driven economy is core to everything that @galvanize provides
Veronica Stoddart
@The real value will be in personalizing & niche-targeting travelers to help them plan their trips. Industry is very fragmented; big data can help
mark simmonds
Getting one step closer to being a Digital Business
Patricia Diaz
A1: It means feeling comfortable making data-driven decisions despite your level of tech expertise #analyticsforall
mark simmonds
The "Business of Now"
Kimberly Trimble
It means making data-based decisions for everything from fraud management, to customer service and even product design.
Lillian Pierson, PE
I work in ecommerce and it is used ubiquitously. #Analytics insights are absolutely indispensable, period.
Aylee Nielsen
It means a 360 degree customer-of-one experience for all industries!
Amy Lawrence
@IBMAutomotive insight throughout the entire vehicle buying and ownership experience.
jameskobielus
For all industries, an insight-driven economy is one where data scientists are the key new developers of apps that ride on big data, machine learning, and cognitive computing.
mark simmonds
Gain insight, take action, be a business champion - or cease to exist.
Randy Redding
Optimizing device/human interactions. Improving usability. Creating new business opportunities.
mark simmonds
The company that has the right data and the right analytics and infrastructure will survive and prosper - others will become irrelevant.
Victoria_A
Being able to make better data driven decisions with marketing tactics
Brian Fanzo
@zBigdata i'd argue the biggest key is empowering and trusting your people so that when they have the right data and right analytics they can take the RIGHT action!
jameskobielus
For every industry, an insight-driven economy means one where every customer is empowered with the best, most current, most complete data to drive how they wish to engage with their vendors/suppliers. Open insights 24x7
mark simmonds

Q4 Do you think of current pace of tech change in your industry as transformational or prohibitive?
Do you think access to analytics technology empowers or complicates the typical day job?
Amy Lawrence
Transformational for sure! Empowers individuals certainly.
Mike Tamir, PhD
Current change in the Data world is hands down transformative, advances in #DL and distributed ML over the last years, not to mention text understanding have changed the game
David Gerbino
. @ibminsight The pace of tech change in the #FinServ industry has been transformational. However, it can be prohibitive for those who can't adapt.
Mike Tamir, PhD
It simplifies once we invest the time in how to use it; there is a lot to learn at every level but once mastered the difference is incomparable
Brian Fanzo
Big Data & Change aren't the issue... how we approach them... we must focus on trust, training & tools in that order... can't blame the tech of fight the change.. must empower, educate, execute!
Veronica Stoddart
A4:Travel industry is trying to distinguish between valuable insights & noisy data. Analytics has huge potential, but not always successfully used
Lillian Pierson, PE
Transformational, although costs can make certain things prohibitive.
David Gerbino
.@ibminsight Access to analytics technology has always empowered my typical day job and those I've worked with for decades.
Kimberly Trimble
- Access to analytics empowers the typical day job because people can make better, faster decisions.
mark simmonds
Transformational but many infrastructures were never designed for analytics let alone congnitive analytics. Must be able to leverage existing investments and infrastructure.
kzeidenstein
@wanderlust13 good point Veronica. Distinguishing from the noise is a critical issue in security as well.
Victoria_A
Definitely transformational. Yes, access to #analytic technology would empower #social marketers like myself to have better #insight on how to market to our audience(s)
Susan Visser
I'm seeing startups creating really innovative solutions that are being bought up by big businesses to fill gaps in their solutions. #fintech
Brian Fanzo
@wanderlust13 I wonder if the industry is asking the right questions or empowering others to act on the data that is valuable... with no examples of success few will trust or act!
mark simmonds
Totally empowering - but it should be transparent - part of everything we do.
Veronica Stoddart
Both. Technology has almost eliminated industry categories such as travel agents, but created aggregation & metasearch engines like online travel agencies. Transformational!
Bob Pulver
A4: should empower, but currently often complicates. Tech still quite flawed, inconsistent
Susan Visser
Disruptive technologies are being integrated into existing solutions to cause transformation.
David Gerbino
. @ibminsight The current pace of tech change in #FinServ also creates a burden for regulators
jameskobielus
Tech change is definitely transformational in high tech. Among other things, our entire sales and marketing capabilty is shifting to online, self-serve, guided, personalized, and data-driven. So is our internal culture.
mark simmonds
Every person needs have analytics working at every level of their life - in work or at home. Apps tha can analyse the content of your cupboards and refrigerators that can suggest meals to make based on your current health and needs.
mark simmonds
Ubiquitous Analytics.
Veronica Stoddart
Travel loyalty programs gather massive data about customers & can tailor their services. But that requires more work. Online travel agencies have mastered this
Lillian Pierson, PE
empowers the day job, of course... but people need to be skilled to be empowered by analytics
mark simmonds
Analytics is the new uber-app.
jameskobielus
Access to analytic technology empowers, but it also complicates. What data? Which analytics? To drive which decisions? Which outcomes? How to track? etc. Not easy to retool your head around so much data, so many possibilities.
Susan Visser
@dmgerbino Regulators are struggling to keep up!
Veronica Stoddart
@iSocialFanz Still a work in progress :)
mark simmonds
Digital Business or go home.
Ian Gertler ☕️📲
Like anything, innovation presents opportunities and challenges. Transformation is based on evolution.
Brian Fanzo
@zBigdata agree... out of site - out of mind - out of digital.. out of business!
jameskobielus
I don't think this data-driven new culture is "prohibitive," if by that term you mean "only available/affordable/comprehensible to large organizations." It's well understood, very cost-effective in the cloud, and available everywhere.
jameskobielus
Data science smarts are availlable widely too. And many people are bootstrapping themselves into this field. BTW, see you all at Datapalooza: http://www.ibmbigdat...
Susan Visser
Everything has a learning curve, so analytics might complicate at first, but it will be worth it!
Craig Brown, Ph.D.
Q4. Transformational. Forced to consider new, better, faster technology so we perform POC's and review USE cases. This creates excitement based on new possibilities. Therefore the feeling of empower is born out of this new discovery.
