#CSCchatman6/22 ~ CSC EducationResources @ CSC | Open Conversation about what CSC offers education wise
J O V.
I believe there are a lot of hidden opportunities within CSC that could be utilized to help push our Social Media presence further. Beginning with the people inside of the company.
Jerry Overton
i agree. what kinds of initiatives would you like to see us start?
J O V.
I think if we can come up with a very clear initiative, message, or mission statement, to help push social media and show the benefits of it and why we should use it -- it would do some good
J O V.
rather than just providing people hashtags to flood and post on without any type of direction
Jerry Overton
ok, agreed. i also think we need to publish social media metrics. make it known where we've succeeded and encourage others to follow.
J O V.
I second that, once people see metrics and get into the "addiction" of likes and interaction and seeing growth they would be much more inclined to participate
Emily Cooper
@JerryAOverton I totally agree with the idea of publishing metrics. That is something we can start doing.
Emily Cooper
I agree. We have a number of assets containing our mission, various initiatives, etc. on C3, but if people don't go see our announcements, or go there, they probably are unaware of what we are doing.
Darryl Cauldwell
I contribute to the tech community via social media and a blog. I deliberately avoid CSC topics as I do not know what I should and should not share.
Jerry Overton
@emrcooper yes. i think we need to make better use of popular gathering places to promote other events. i.e. use the c3 home page, csc.com, and csc world to promote other social media initiatives.
J O V.
Yeah its all about practice, I posted this crowdchat as my status on C3 but im realizing now how I also could have posted in the techspace as well as the new social media voices space
Jerry Overton
@potato_heads i think that's kind of a shame because i think our blogging should be an extension of csc's consulting. it should be an easy way for customers to engage with some of our best thinking.
Darryl Cauldwell
@JerryAOverton I agree, its something I would like to do, but playing it safe until I better understand the boundaries
Emily Cooper
@potato_heads It is a bit tricky to know what you can and cannot share related to CSC news. Do you receive our daily SPOD? If so, thats good content to share every day. Or, anything that we share on our corporate channels is always "safe" to share.
John Furrier
this is a new product that will propel CSC - we applied #devops to social creation - this page took less than 30mins to create http://crowdpages.co...
Darryl Cauldwell
@emrcooper I do RT published articles I like, I was meaning more authoring my own about CSC products I work with like CSC Agility
Darryl Cauldwell
@potato_heads as CSC Hanlon is very much a community project I do write about that
Jerry Overton
@furrier very cool! u have other examples you can post?
Emily Cooper
@potato_heads Ah, I see. Yes, that is tricky, and I don't know the line either. Maybe @JerryAOverton can shed some more light into what he talks about and what he doesn't. Where he draws that line, or how he makes the judgement call.
J O V.
I think a lot of people are scared to mix worklife and personal life together especially on something as open as social media, how do you all get along with that balance ?
J O V.
if you mix the two at all
Emily Cooper
Totally agree. I just accept it and mix the both. I think it is important to show that we are humans behind the CSC brand. Everyone knows we work and have a personal life. There is no shame in showing that.
Jerry Overton
i was hoping that fear had died out. hey jov, do u find people in ur age group less afraid to mix biz + personal?
J O V.
@JerryAOverton to be honest. I find the graduates here even more fearful to mix the two here @ CSC because of the gap between cultures
Darryl Cauldwell
The twitter tech community for VMware is an invaluable working resource, better than google
Emily Cooper
@JovHimself, you have two twitter handles right? One personal and one business?
J O V.
@emrcooper Thats correct, im guilty of it myself, but what I at least try to do is compare them, and take things from my personal twitter and incorporate them into my "business" one
J O V.
@emrcooper I try to study what im talking about on my personal and the transcend it over. Like if i find myself speaking on fashion, I go to this twitter and tweet about cloud e-commerce and what its doing for the fashion world etc etc
Emily Cooper
right, thats cool. why do you have two though? Maybe your insight can help us bridge the gap with other millennials and make them feel more comfortable about tweeting about CSC.
J O V.
@emrcooper I'd also be happy tp share that insight, I have two because sometimes I like to go into rants and over use swear words and things of that since, or i like having the freedom to RT something inappropriate right there in that moment w/o hesitation
Emily Cooper
Yeah, I can see that. I want to sometimes too haha, but then decide against it bc I don't want it on the internet forever associated to my name. Thats typically when I write it, rewrite it and then eventually delete it ;)
J O V.
With these last couple of minutes Id like to ask for you guys input on Social Media use @ TechCom this year if you attended
Jerry Overton
i wished that it was built into more of our interactions rather than being optional...like, if you *had* to tweet to participate in a session.
Emily Cooper
I think it was great! The technologists did a great job of being social! It was by far the most social and engaging conference we've had!
Emily Cooper
Thats true @JerryAOverton. Like, no asking questions in the room.. it had to be over twitter.
Emily Cooper
@JerryAOverton I am ALL about that, and would love to see any improvements in social at future conferences!
Jerry Overton
@emrcooper exactly. or an un-conference where the agenda was set using hashtags and tweets.
J O V.
@JerryAOverton Im trying to work on the app for next year for things like hashtag sections or a crowdchat type feel within the app to keep everyone connected
John Furrier
Love to see more chats :-)
Darryl Cauldwell
for us who didn't attend it would have been good to see some Periscope live streamihng
Jerry Overton
i also thought it would be cool to have crowdchat reactions after key sessions. the equivalent of post-game interviews done over social meda.
John Furrier
@potato_heads periscope needs to have a page of stored videos t
J O V.
Imagine going to a breakout session being able to go to that session on your phone in the app, and having an entire conversation in that space about what going on live
J O V.
with the tags and everything pre loaded
Jerry Overton
what do you think about starting a podcast where we publish audio interviews of experts like csc's distinguished technologists?
J O V.
with me recently getting into audiobooks for the first time ever, i fully support this
Emily Cooper
Sounds like a great idea!
Darryl Cauldwell
I'd love it if we did publish podcasts of the tech google hangouts, much easier to download and listen in car
Darryl Cauldwell
if we could add interviews with experts too that would be great
Jerry Overton
@potato_heads i'd like to see interviews with thought leaders from our clients.
Darryl Cauldwell
sounds like a great idea
John Furrier
creating content is a great enabler in successful social media
Darryl Cauldwell
@furrier I agree, great content gets people reading about what we're doing, I work on some really great stuff, just can't talk about it
Darryl Cauldwell
@furrier many companies have there TME's product content
