Let’s start! Many customers ask us “How do you define #hybridcloud?’” How would YOU define it?
Rob Koper
a mix of local resources and resources externally, like Amazon or the @openlinelineBV Cloud
Suhela Dighe
It's not just public + private, is it?
Alice Eschrich
- good question to start with - is it more than just combining private and public cloud?
Rodrigo Gazzaneo
@suzyspaatz hybrid = public + private made transparent by the management platform
Rob Koper
@suzyspaatz Well, I'm by far an expert, but what else is there? private and public, there's nothing in between, right?
Rob Koper
@vGazza like ViPR for example?
Rodrigo Gazzaneo
@50mu @EMCViPR Controller is a great example of a platform for hybrid services
Dinko Eror
True hybrid means controlling your workloads, storage & network resources so it limits risk and increase productivity
Rodrigo Gazzaneo
@50mu we need to do what @EMCViPR does for storage to compute and network as well
Rodrigo Gazzaneo
@50mu and compose resources for a hybrid services catalog
Barbara Robidoux
hybrid also implies a new role for IT people & skills
Rob Koper
@vGazza yeah, but is there some sort of standard yet? One that all vendors approve of and can use amongst eachother?
Rob Koper
@barbrobidoux isn't that where @EMCWorld comes into play? Over there they seem to want us to transform to the next level ;)
Rodrigo Gazzaneo
@50mu there are choices but not a single answer to this question
Xerxel
must involve either using or being a broker. Need to get mobility between clouds!
Rob Koper
I visited a SDDC conference in '14 in Si valley during #SFD5 with #TFD and the conclusion was that standardization is something that needs to be worked on and so far it's been quiet. At least, it seems quiet. Or have there been new developments?
Dinko Eror
For true hybrid cloud, you need all the right ingredients: https://twitter.com/...
Rodrigo Gazzaneo
@50mu one emerging trend is to abstract the Hybrid Cloud on application services level
Rob Koper
@vGazza I was afraid of that. It seems the software defined layers don't have a standard yet. How far are the developers in creating these layers so they become interchangable?
Rodrigo Gazzaneo
@50mu not far. #PaaS is making many different infrastructure clouds interoperate.
Rodrigo Gazzaneo
@50mu think @CloudFoundry for instance. It runs on multiple different Cloud platforms. Public and Private.
Rodrigo Gazzaneo
@50mu there were cool announcements yesterday related to @PivotalCF. Check them out.
Rob Koper
@vGazza and that does include all layers like SDN, SDS, SDC?
Rodrigo Gazzaneo
@50mu #PaaS simplifies virtual resources consumption but it builds over the #SDDC
Rob Koper
@vGazza I'd love to see a demo on how that works. I don't have much time atm to set something up myself, but building an hybrid cloud @EMCWorld is something that I'd like to see. Will that be in a vlab then?
Rodrigo Gazzaneo
@50mu take a look at this hybrid deployment demo of @cloudfoundry https://youtu.be/f2C...
Rodrigo Gazzaneo
@50mu there will be many events on @EMCWorld around #DevOps and #Cloud automation
Rodrigo Gazzaneo
@50mu check the #DevOps agenda inside @EMCWorld that @virtualswede is putting together with @EMCCode

What do people here think? What is currently challenging your adoption of hybrid cloud?
Steven Goddard
often it is easier than first expected as you can leverage pre-built templates.
Christian McMahon
Security, data control, privacy & contractual exit strategies must be high on most peoples lists? @dinkoeror
Markus Pleier
the landscape in the customers, with many complex infrastructre silos and the public cloud landscape
Steven Goddard
The magic and the simplicity that the Hybrid Cloud drives, is turning the everyday and repeatable tasks that IT does, and exposing them to users to so they can do it themselves.
Armand David
From our perspective it's the fact that the 'big picture' comes secondary to day to day application/infrastructure priorities. HC strategy needs to wait for a major refresh.
Markus Pleier
building privat cloud first to opetimize the journey
Suhela Dighe
Next question to the crowd and #EMC team here: In which industries do you see an adoption of hybrid cloud happening today?
Rodrigo Gazzaneo
IMHO it is an IT transformation initiative and it is very cross industry
Dinko Eror
In every industry where there are information workers, or large data reserves. People are driving the hybrid cloud revolution
Markus Pleier
a combination where cost pressure and innovation with new apps collide
Rob Koper
that's a lot of fancy words. I believe that for now it's a service provider driven technology. Individuals and companies like easy access and creation of new VMs and other resources, like for example a temporary webserver. You pay for 6 months.
Christian McMahon
Early adopters are those that are more agile who can see benefits & span multiple industries. Regulated industries are slower adopters for obvious reasons
Steven Goddard
is also a good video on the Financial Times:
Stuart Miniman
here's some Wikibon data on cloud adoption https://www.crowdcha...
EMC UK and Ireland
Final question before we wrap up - How do you decide which applications to migrate to the cloud? http://www.via-cc.at...

Christian McMahon
I think those that need a faster time to market will be the first people will look to migrate if you don't have any pre primed to launch
Suhela Dighe
Which apps to migrate may need to be assessed by a compliance & risk team to ensure the right data is controlled by the right policies.
Simon Seagrave
Deploy everything, these days there aren't any barriers (only benefits) to deploying to a Cloud based environment. Be that, private, public, or (of course) hybrid. Not all systems and workloads are suitable currently to all types of Cloud however.
Steven Goddard
Use a methodology/service to assign a score to each Business Application, highlighting the effort required to migrate or transform the application for the hybrid cloud.
Steven Goddard
Use this score to prioritise which apps to move first!
Rodrigo Gazzaneo
@suzyspaatz start by assessing the workloads and define suitability and optimal placement, benefits and savings.
Markus Pleier
all, the question is when, may apps are already there, wtith InfoArchive you can also put legacy apps into the hybrid cloud. I would recommend to engage EMC global services for the journey
Rodrigo Gazzaneo
@mpleier good call on #InfoArchive value for application lifecycle management
Xerxel
sounds like a job for #Adaptivity !
