Tradition > BiModal > New Approach - this is the transition to be expected in Enterprise IT says @adamalthus
Jonathan Murray
IMHO The entire business of IT needs to change to achieve true T2V improvement. Having a fast-lane and slow-lane isn't sustainable.
CenturyLink Business
Others in the chat - what are your thoughts?
Jeff Katzen
@adamalthus +1 for that too expensive to build out a seperate org #hybriditfiles
CenturyLink Business
@jeffkatzen is that what you're seeing in the industry?
Jeff Katzen
yes i dont see seperate orgs being created and sometimes when it is a seperate org they can be challenges with being succesful
Jonathan Murray
I agree the separate org model is challenging but you need ot be able to incubate the new inside the odl without succumbing to inertia and resistance to change...
Jeff Katzen
agree its a different way of thinking
Scott Brindamour
The goal of Bimodal should be to change and reinvent the business - align to your specific goals @CenturyLinkEnt
Kim Martin Bannerman
Project-based or Enterprise Bi-Modal, how do you get the entire organization to adopt Agile? @Daveshac @adamalthus
Jeff Katzen
transformation should come both bottom up and top down
Scott Brindamour
agree you need to aspire to do both bottom up and top down however both are often not possible in certain orgs @kmbannerman
Scott Brindamour
getting the entire org to adopt Agile is more aspirational IMHO, but not realistic for most @kmbannerman
Jeff Katzen
its not optional
Brian Mirise
the so-called "technical debt" organizations face...
John Furrier
what do you mean technical debt? what specifics are you referring to? There is a spectrum of technical debt
Scott Brindamour
agreed. determining the best way to hit the restart button or use some of what you have @BrianMirise
John Furrier
tech decisions that are made that are suboptimal - is technical debt
Scott Brindamour
how do you minimize technical debt if it can't be avoided? @BrianMirise @BrindamourScott
Scott Brindamour
Technologies driving change? Cloud (for sure), SDN (mostly future), Big Data, others?
John Furrier
Where are the pressure points for disruption in Cloud Mobile Apps?
Scott Brindamour
Cost, distribution, performance, and agility come to mind
John Furrier
I love this notion of "Software Factory" - can you elaborate more on that?
Wendy White
"infrastructure is friction" - right on
John Furrier
Platform think is key but tooling is what people are craving now - back to the notion of "horizontally" scalable
Wendy White
@adamalthus you are teasing us - I'm excited to hear more
Wendy White
i want to be @adamalthus when i grow up.
David Shacochis
I'll settle for his hair.

Competition leads to shorter life spans, leads to Bi-Model IT... - Odell Riley
David Shacochis
Oops... shorter "PRODUCT" life spans. =)
Jeff Katzen
is it shorter lifespan or the fact that a product is never really completed, its continually evolving
David Shacochis
Hmm.. Actually probably both. =)
Scott Brindamour
To what degree do political forces within the org block Bimodal IT, and ultimately innovation? Does it vary by company size? Industry? Geographic location?
Jeff Katzen
its all political, its the whole reason why bimodal is needed in the first place
Brian Mirise
it's hugely political, but technical debt and lack of mode 2 capable systems of record conspire also
Scott Brindamour
Isn't bimodal need to ensure innovate and drive change? This isn't necessarily politically motivated
Scott Brindamour
Are large companies more conservative, and thus less like to adopt bimodal IT?

We have witnessed a major shift over recent decades towards a digital services based economy[1]. Exponential growth in the power of information technology enhanced by Internet driven network effect...
Jeff Katzen
I agree people are always the biggest impediment to change
Jeff Katzen
but this is what I did yesterday so Im going to do it today
Scott Brindamour
Change is hard for lots of people Some people take decades to evolve... @jeffkatzen
