https://www.crowdcha... What do you think makes a data protection solution “Simple"? What makes it “Powerful?”

Sherry Davenport
Simple to me is EASY... Powerful means it helps you meet your RTO/RPO's
Beth Phalen
Powerful data protection protects the entire environment with performance, resilience and scale
Alex Almeida
Intuitive Backup Policy Creation and Management checks of "Simple", and the Most efficient deduplication you can buy and fastest data protection solution checks off powerful!
David Floyer
#SimplyPowerfulDP #Wikibon Simple is ability to perform tasks for the user directly in their language.
Beth Phalen
simple data protection is easy to deploy, manage backup recovery and disaster recovery!
sharad rastogi
Performance, scale, full coverage of applications and data sets plus easy to install and manage...all in one simply powerful appliance...DP4400
Seife Teklu
DP4400 is simple to deploy, manage and scale as requirements change overtime.
Rob Emsley
Cost, Complexity and Capabilities have always been top of mind for customers choosing DP solutions. Happy to see the focus on all three of these In this announcement
Sherry Davenport
Especially for customers in the mid-market where resources are few, but the challenges remain!
Alex Almeida
Agreed, and if the solution can provide all those things including being able to provide additional value to the business along with that resilience that it brings, even better!
Brian Linden
Absolutely. The DP4400 has been a game changer for me compared to my previous DP solution(s). It's simple to deploy, easy to manage, and it just works.
Beth Phalen
Good points Rob!
Dave Vellante
definitely Rob...virtualization and backup used to be just about managing backup jobs with less physical server capacity -- now much more complex - especially w/ digital and hybrid cloud #backup #recovery
Colin Durocher
@BrianLindenIT I love that statement... The DP4400 just works! Have you had a chance to leverage Cloud DR? It also just works.
Beth Phalen
@BrianLindenI Thaks Brian - great to hear!
Brian Linden
@othercolin Not yet, but I love that the capacity to expand to that level is already waiting for me activate, without having to re-engineer my whole environment.
Sherry Davenport
@BrianLindenIT Easy to grow! That's what it's all about. You don't want to have to wait or roll into a new box to scale, either.
Peter Burris
https://www.crowdcha... How is the drive to digital business changing the way organizations think about data protection?

John Furrier
Data protection has to be cloud native
sharad rastogi
Data is the fuel of the digital economy. As companies embark on their digital journey, protecting their data will become even more important
Stuart Miniman
top thing that I hear from users is that the increasingly distributed nature of data (SaaS, public cloud, on-premises) requires a change in managing data protection
Dave Vellante
.@plburris the never-ending compression of RPO and RTO requirements continues...stakes are ever-higher and businesses are more than ever pushing for continuous access to data and apps. Add cloud to the equation as digital initiatives are cloud-heavy and it adds to the complexity

Peter Burris
Answering my own question about changes in data protection technology: If the difference between business and digital business is the use of data as an asset, data protection in a digital business really becomes digital business protection.
Peggy Ringhausen
Digital Business means more and more data to manage, so ease of deployment, reliability, and lower TCO is paramount.
jameskobielus
The drive to digital business is spurring organizations to protect data from cloud to edge--and that requires end-to-end replication, synchronization, backup, and recovery capabilties throughout distributed storage architectures.
Colin Durocher
@furrier Totally agree. Businesses are increasingly dependent on mobile / online apps to drive revenue and these are built using cloud-native / DevOps. Dell EMC has a whitepaper avail on protecting Docker / Kubernetes based apps and environments. It is just the start!
David Floyer
#SimplyPowerfulDP #Wikibon The drive to Digital Business is putting pressure on traditional component optimization. Implementing integrated solutions improves simplicity and enables VM specialists and LOB people to manage data protection.
Brian Garrett
The drive to digital business is increasing the variety, velocity and volume of data that needs to be backed up - simply and cost effectively. #simplypowerfuldp
jameskobielus
The drive to digital business is also causing organizations to build an underlying data resilience architecture in which all data is protected, consistent, and available for all uses at all times. HA/DR plus strong stewardship and transactional integrity everywhere.
Alex Almeida
Businesses of all sizes are being pushed to innovate and implement next generation mobile, AI, and ML applications. The data storage and processing architectures being driven by those needs, call for the most flexible and efficient but SIMPLE data protection approaches.
Beth Phalen
#SimplyPowerfulDP #Wikibon Customers need their data protection to be tightly integrated with their VMware and Application environments so the application owners can directly manage their own data protection
Rob Emsley
data stored within your DP solution needs to be accessible so that it can be leveraged as an asset
Tom Giuliano
Here's a question on top of the initial question: Outside of regulatory or compliance requirements, what role does your backed-up data play in your organization?
Tom Giuliano
@robemsley Exactly the basis for my question! :)
Peter Burris
https://www.crowdcha... What are the top factors that drive the cost of protecting your data?

Colin Durocher
Cost of storage to retain those backups is huge. Great de-dupe is so important to contain this.
David Floyer
#SimplyPowerfulDP #Wikibon Network costs driven by amount of data that has transmitted - DP4400 looks good at minimizing network costs.
Andrew Glinka
Storage and network costs. 55:1 deduplication guarantee helps with both!
Dave Vellante
.@plburris complexity drives operating expense. lack of understanding of data value creates a one size fits all data protection mentality which is inefficient and also increases risk which is the *Most* expensive aspect...i.e. business risk.
Peggy Ringhausen
@othercolin Competely agree, less storage means lower costs! #simplypowerfuldp
Sherry Davenport
@othercolin The 55:1 Dedupe Guarantee we offer is unprecedented.
Rodrigo Gazzaneo
deduplication plays a key factor, don't settle for 10:1 if you can have 50:1. It's the key financial criteria.
Peggy Ringhausen
@AndrewGlinka Good point. Sometimes a customer does not think about the network costs. DP4400 will be far less cost than most competitors.
Zach Wunderle
Acquisition cost of a Data Protection solution is obvious but there are so many recurring costs like your monthly cloud bill which can impact you Total Cost of Ownership. Dell EMC's 55:1 Dedupe Guarantee keeps you cloud bill low so you can spend more on innovation!
Peter Burris
https://www.crowdcha... What are the most critical aspects of a data protection solution for mid-sized organizations?

Peter Burris
Mid-sized organizations need simpler technology -- including data protection -- if they ever want to be big digital businesses!
Andrew Glinka
Ability to protect the entire environment and all applications. Mid-sized organizations don't have the staff or time to manage multiple solutions
sharad rastogi
time to value is key for mid market customers. They are looking for easy purchase, deploy and manage. Reduce the overall time to first backup

(edited)

David Floyer
Simplicity, Cloud failover/failback, and ease of migration from existing backup systems
Sherry Davenport
It's got to be easy and intuitive to use. One person holds many hats!
Rob Emsley
simplicity is the most critica aspect. Any solution must just work
Colin Durocher
Cost and complexity are the two main challenges I hear about. The DP4400 and associated Cloud DR and vCD extensions are all designed to address exactly that in different scenarios.
Seife Teklu
DP4400 Cloud DR integration simplifies deployment and overall management.
Dave Vellante
.@plburris #1 consistently works - not just #backup but #recovery; #2 simple - I'm a generalist, not a backup specialist; #3 economically viable - must be cost effective
Peggy Ringhausen
#simplypowerfuldp Mid market wants set-it-and-forget-it. IDPA gives customers that reliability and ease of use with proven technology
Tom Giuliano
Simplicity is #1...staff likely wearing too many hats. And ease-of as well....for purchasing, implementation/install, config, management, upgrades, etc, etc
Alex Almeida
IT Personnel in Mid-Sized organizations often wear "many hats". A solution that comes with simplicity and robust automation necessary to optimize architecture and environment variables help IT admins focus on what matters to move things forward.
ruya barrett
Dare we say? Getting weekends back with #simplypowerfuldp
Bill Mercer
DP4400 will give the weekends back to the IT Generalist!
Beth Phalen
mid-size customers need to be able to easily deploy and manage their data protection - up and running quickly
