I would prefer changing the question from a Data era to an information era.. its how we extrapolate value from the data.

Budget and resources are also an issue. IT leaders know that they need the budget to fund that ability to easily direct their resources from routine maintenance tasks, towards new areas of innovation to drive operational efficiency and workforce productivity.

The research was global North America and Europe focused, no APAC in that though.

The new technologies like AI, ML, added to big data engines, are increasing compute demands. Companies need to be ready to manage the new workload types, with maximum power and ease while simplifying IT so you can focus on innovation and business results.

Security is top in all our research and it is top of mind in every IT org and every IT leader.

By 2023, 65% of the world’s population will have its personal information covered under modern privacy regulations, up from 10% today.. this is going to be a game changer in how we address the growth in data and living in an information orientated society.

Some other drivers of complexity? We see the impacts increased disparity and changes in tech; the need to use both data centers and the cloud (29%), new digital transformation initiatives (29%), need to incorporate emerging technologies (29%).

The bottom line is that IT is way more important than ever before, and environments are way more distributed than ever before.

1A part II - security, data loss and managing cloud sprawl also come to mind.

Security does seem to come up time and time again but security issues now are so much more complex than they were a few years ago.

.@Scott_Sin this is really key. Data is siloed, operations is siloed. Ideally it would be concentrated, but its kind of inescapable. So you end up with complexity and limits on how that data can be used.

From the Internet of Things, to blockchain, to artificial intelligence, the raw potential of emerging technologies is staggering. For this reason it is necessary to have a system to support the diverse workloads while also providing visibility across the IT infrastructure.

Digital transformation involves not only technology innovation but also the need to manage critically valuable cash, control costs and optimize resources to ensure both short and long-term organizational success.

@NickBrackney Yes. silos emerged because that is they way business worked years ago, not silos add cost, complexity and slow down IT. which slows business.

More importantly #CIOs & #IT admins have tough job juggling:

@StephenDAtDell Agreed, and data theft is becoming much more sophisticated, so some organisations are applying ML and AI in preventing such data theft as well, so this creates another aspect to ML/AI and data relationship too

I also see a lot of requests around automation in deployment and monitoring of systems.

I guess, we can all agree that there are loads of data challenges today, all creating complexity and pressure on IT teams and the business. So what does this mean for data centers? Next, we'll look at how our latest server announcement is a response to these challenges.

@StephenDAtDell And those issues are present on the chain - from supply, to production, and full lifecycle of the product

It really is a bit insane, how much the job of IT has evolved over the last 5 or so years. From a business enabler, to a business accelerator, to a business creator.

Most important challenge would be to achieve faster time to insights from the data "wherever" it resides!
