What do you guys think the TOP 3 CIO priorities are for 2019? https://www.crowdchat.net/s/85qi9
https://www.crowdchat.net/s/85qi9

Tim Crawford
Expect many of the familiar “top 10” suspects. My Top-10 2019 CIO list comes out shortly. #CIO
Stuart Miniman
DATA is the top priority - how about securing data, managing data, monetizing data
Dave Vellante
1/ Get digital right; 2/ Get digital right; 3/ Get digital right
Tim Crawford
I agree w/ @stu that it is about #data. Not about digital as the primary thrust though.
Rob Hirschfeld
1/ technical debt 2/ finishing 2018 priorities before jumping to next shiny 3/ integration & automation
Sarbjeet Johal
@dvellante For many defining #Digital is had and selling it even harder...
Tim Crawford
Too often we talk about #DigitalTransformation as the lead. Unfortunately, it misses context...business context. #CIO
Tim Crawford
@zehicle Agree that #TechnicalDebt is a serious (and growing) issue for the #CIO. Can’t be ignored.
jameskobielus
1) integrating data science workflows fully into your enterprise DevOps. 2) incorporating AI-driven robotics into your industrial B2B processes, 3) ensuring top-to-bottom visibility and compliance into all algorithmic decisions.
Dion Hinchcliffe #AdobeSummit

1) Improving the master data story + #customerexperience
2) Keeping the org safe (#cybersecurity, #regulation)
3) Driving #digitaltransformation, while cutting #technicaldebt
John Furrier
Make technology acquisition drive value creation not just operational old ways to do things. Tech has to be consumable for the business and drive value creation
John Furrier
Security for CIO is top priority and has to be built in from the beginning not after
AP Guha
@dhinchcliffe should technical debt show up in P&L statement like real debt so that CSuite can work on reducing it....not just CIO
Rob Hirschfeld
meh @stu - I think that there's an equal challenge on "throw out the old" syndrome where we try to walk about from debt and it's simply starting a new debt in a new location. Then you have two+ dumpster fires.
Dion Hinchcliffe #AdobeSummit
@APGuha While there will be great resistance in doing so, and difficultly in quantifying it, I do believe we now have a fiduciary and ethical obligation to include IT #technicaldebt on the P&L statement.

Stuart Miniman
well @zehicle you'll let me know when we find a silver bullet. Nothing ever dies, everything is additive, apps are too old and challenging to use.
AP Guha
@dhinchcliffe it is hard....we all need to be change agent to enable CSuite / BOD to change
Bill Mew
@stu When you say that nothing ever dies. Apps do but data doesn't. As James Govenor once put it "Data ages like fine wine, apps like fish"
Dion Hinchcliffe #AdobeSummit
@stu Exactly, data ultimately drives everything, from business models to customer experience. But shared value creation is the motivation that directs what you do with data and why.
AP Guha
very few companies still have full account of their #technicaldebt
⚔️⚔️⚔️ kyaaS⚔️⚔️⚔️
top 3 CIO priorities: 1. Simplicity 2. Velocity 3. Normalization of UX. All at any scale. #CIOchat
AP Guha
when will companies abandon their reliance on mainframe ?
Wayne Sadin
@APGuha And that's an awful truth about #TechnicalDebt! If the #attacksurface doesn't kill them quickly, the brittleness of their systems will impede #DigitalTransformation & allow nimbler competitors to drain their lifeblood over time
Wayne Sadin
@APGuha When the value of doing so exceeds the cost/risk of migrating hundreds of millions of lines of COBOL built over 30+ years & poorly documented--BUT WORK. TSB Bank in UK bobbled a core system refresh and the CEO's head rolled.
AP Guha
@waynesadin as a community of #IT leaders we have the responsibility to enable this change & disparity to be resolved #technicaldebt #digitaltransformation
Tim Crawford
Am just down the street from #theCUBE studios in Palo Alto, but looking forward to the discussion.
Jeff Frick
> You're always welcome if you need a place to hang.
Tim Crawford
In meetings most of the day, but told John I’d ping him after.
Tim Crawford
Thank you Jeff. Very appreciative.

I believe this was the original Tweet that started this whole conversation: https://twitter.com/APGuha/status/1056630567532322... Many interesting threads came out of this. #CIO

Sarbjeet Johal
Yup it almost always his tweet and my response....and then we go on and on ... ton twists and turns of that topic!
AP Guha
Love the title of “father of this chat”

Leadership in the C-Suite - should you know your colleagues role and responsibilities?
Wayne Sadin
A #CIO should know enough to have an intelligent conversation with anyone in the #Csuite--and on the #Board
John Furrier
yes transparency is the new mgt secret to success. Publish goals and objectives and it will reduce coordination waste
Wayne Sadin
It might even be that a #CIO understands process details within biz units that the Biz exec doesn't know. IT sees all :)
Todd D. Lyle
@waynesadin in medical leadership terms IT leadership is to the organization what the hospitalist is to the hospital. Has to know the layout of everything.
Dave Vellante
Hi guys - just in from Palo Alto - back in Beantown...
Stuart Miniman
I'm between London last week for #NEXTconf and Seattle next week for #KubeCon with @furrier
Tim Crawford
It appears that the #CrowdChat solution has been improved to work with mobile devices. Yeah!
John Furrier
we have leaderboards too now
Tim Crawford
Noticing that you have to hit the ‘vote’ link twice to actually vote.
Sarbjeet Johal
Don't forget to vote for ideas you like in the thread!

may be we need egg nog to loosen up
Dion Hinchcliffe #AdobeSummit
Hi everyone, looking forward to a rousing conversation on #CIO issues today. Glad you could join us!
John Furrier
we have to get a question on how cloud is finally a working web services and SOA from a decade ago. You were so early on this so we should talk about that
Tim Crawford
Happy Friday everyone. Will only briefly be able to join this morning.
