VMAX3

VMAX to the Power of 3
Ask Brian Gallagher, Fidelma Russo, & Barry Burke anything about the new VMAX platform
John Furrier
Question: How does VMAX3 compare to traditional enterprise storage arrays?
Yogesh Agrawal
VMAX3 is an application-aware platform that manages to the service level needs of apps
Barry Burke
More Powerful, More Trusted and More Agile. Nobody delivers as much in a single integrated platform.
Brian Gallagher
FAST enhancements will include application hinting & prediction/recommendation based on business process
Fidelma Russo
consolidation monster
Rodrigo Gazzaneo
most powerful, trusted and agile enterprise storage system PLUS data services platform
Yogesh Agrawal
VMAX3 allows customers to plan, provision, monitor and manage to application needs. The storage details on how this is accomplished is automated.
CrowdFather
@yagrawal @storageanarchy what about control. IT is challenged with control issues.. I call is IT OCD
Yogesh Agrawal
On Control: automation is not at the expense of control. We have shifted the thinking from focusing on details in the storage system to what the app needs. There are controls to monitor app performance and hint/une the system.

Holding a CrowdChat with senior EMC leaders in storage – VMAX to the Power of 3.
CrowdFather
Crowdchat is badass. Anyone who knows anything about #devops can see how kick ass this software is running across three social networks in real time #respect
John Furrier
I love the fact that LinkedIn users are playing nicely with Twitter users..
Erik Comperen
What about disaster avoidance instead of disaster recovery? ProtectPoint is the right solution: data is immediately available for use at the beginning of a restore operation. That's really breaking the status-quo!
Rodrigo Gazzaneo
Redefines data protection. #ProtectPoint
Brian Gallagher
ProtectPoint is a game changer. Reducing cost, footprint, energy while improving performance. Not to mention Instant Restore which restores trust & confidence in the users of IT.
Guy Churchward
Game changer is correct, I haven't had a single meeting in the last year that hasn't had a session on ProtectPoint with a shoe dropping moment of 'oh...wow'
John Furrier
@guychurchward this is huge oppty bc data protection is huge issue for many customers. how do you make is sexy and relevant?
Guy Churchward
We just have, totally relevant - add our work around metadata and the data protection continuum and we should get Manley on the cover of Vogue !
Erik Comperen
Ever heard of ProtectPoint? Moving away all the overhead in equipment, software etc. a traditional backup-environment needs!
Fidelma Russo
tight integration with new vmax and data domain
Guy Churchward
Best in class marries best in class
Erik Comperen
VMAX3 delivers brand new snapshot functionality without limitations and without claiming any initial allocated capacity!
Brian Gallagher
SnapVX designed for hybrid cloud scale. 16M+ Snaps.
Jonathan Siegal
Yes, SnapVX is fundamentally new TimeFinder for #VMAX3 - minimal overhead, radically simple
Rob Reynolds
When should we expect to see VCE ship the VMAX100K,200K and 400K in the VBLOCKS?
Barry Ader
you will be able to order Vblocks later this quarter!!!
Barry Ader
availability in q4
Brian Gallagher
VCE is a key partner in our product planning process
John Furrier
VCE has proven the market wrong and succeed in light of all the naysayers.. I witnessed it unfold ...congrats to EMC for staying the course.. now can that functionally come down market?
Barry Burke
VSPEX is killing it through the channel also - it's a two-pronged approach to Converged Infrastructure...
John Furrier
Question for EMC Mgt: People often say "that a category killer" yet you guys are claiming you are creating a new category. Is that correct and are you the only player in this category?
Brian Gallagher
More of a category creator than a killer. The Hybrid Cloud, or ITaaS needs enriched capabilities around data services. VMAX3 with ViPR achieves this.
John Furrier
@BGallagher32 thanks what is the new category called? If you're in there alone then your technically #1 then ;-)
Brian Gallagher
Real answer is Enterprise Data Services Platform.
Brian Gallagher
Traditional data services have been things like copy services - local for b/u, app/dev. Remote for HA, BC & DR. New services include - mobility, cloud access, b/u, workload management, etc.
John Furrier
Lets not forget the importanct of Backup & Recovery so for @guychurchward I have to ask what is going on with ProtectPoint?
Yogesh Agrawal
ProtectPoint gives the power in the hands of the app team, eliminates the need for backup servers and makes backup faster by sending data directly from VMAX3 to DataDomain.
Fidelma Russo
tired of excess media servers & NW 4 backups. backup directly from VMAX to DD with protectpoint
Rodrigo Gazzaneo
best of breed primary storage meets the best of breed PBBA #ProtectPoint
John Furrier
@yagrawal most customers don't put backup & recovery on front burner in architecture and design? What should they dow to make it scale for the new architectures of cloud?
Barry Burke
Net - a significant TCO benefit (less hardware) plus unmatched Agility for Database & Backup Admins
Luis Bonilla
@yagrawal Do you feel this replaces or complements EMC's own backup product line like Avamar?
Yogesh Agrawal
Backup needs to evolve in this world of cloud/peta scale. Customers need to rethink backup. That's what we are doing with ProtectPoint. It complements existing solutions from EMC - example, you can centralize manage ProtectPoint with our solutions
Barry Burke
Backup is being redefined right in front of us - it's becoming more of a "Continuum of Protection" from real-time replicas to backups to archives...
Rob Reynolds
@storageanarchy What is the status of META Volumes and Gate Keepers in the #VMAX3.
Brian Gallagher
Metas & GateKeepers! My favorite topics!
Barry Burke
I'm happy to say: Metas have left the building. Hypers have left the building. Gate Keepers have left only footprints...
Rodrigo Gazzaneo
@storageanarchy I miss those binfiles of my old 3830 ... they are so 1999s!
Burhan Halilov
@storageanarchy How does this affect SRDF to VMAX1/2 ?
Barry Burke
As always, we invest a ton in interoperability with prior generations - especially for SRDF. The differences are managed in Solutions Enabler
Erik Comperen
The VMAX3 Hypermax O/S and Dynamic Virtual Matrix introduces dynamic compute and processing power at the right place at the right time!
John Furrier
Erik is hypermax a hypervisor or SW OS? or both

yes - the new Dynamic Virtual Matrix makes VMAX3 ideal for hyperconsolidation of mixed workloads
Yogesh Agrawal
HyperMax allows traditional and new data services to be run embedded.
Jonathan Siegal
#VMAX3 Dynamix Virtual Matrix can dynamially allocate processing power where it's most needed
Erik Comperen
@vGazza Fidelma Russo is right. It is a SW OS with a data service hypervisor :-)
