I think these #'s are reasonable and encourage you to do more of this research. One reason, Hadoop related, Business Unit rolls out Hadoop cluster and sees performance gain, then says, "what else?" see, apps......

re: loading up the cluster, yes, it's performance related today but then the BU asks, "Where are the dashboards, where are the reports, I need to be able to share this with non-techies." Inflection point that will effect ROI over time.

What's the distribution of ROI though? Some people are seeing a significant return while others are still in the investment phase?

Key is to enable them with technology that they can get into the hands of business analysts, become part of "business as usual"

without question there's a skills gap - which is why we need more pre-baked #BigData apps and developer friendly app dev tools - seeing that on dispplay at #splunkconf today

agree - integrating #hadoop w existing infrastructure important but key is using right tech for right job

customers leverage new data processing technologies like Hadoop and NoSQL databases and R for statistical analysis..keeping new sw coming pure open source is key
