VMware Weather Report
@JoeBaguley & @Simon will discuss major developments in enterprise tech this year.
#VMchatEvolving C-Suite Roles@OliverRoll & @BaskIyer host a conversation on the future of the workplace.
Oliver Roll
So let's talk about 2015. What are major developments do you see on the horizon for enterprise in 2015? #VMchat
Joe Baguley
"Prediction is very difficult, especially if it's about the future." - Niels Bohr
Joe Baguley
What I can talk to is what is planned...
Simone Brunozzi
End User Computing is growing FAST. VMware (with acquisitions of AirWatch and Desktone) is in a great position to ride the wave.
Matt Eastwood, IDC
This is a repeat from me, but @IDC sees disaggregated physical infra, convergence/fabric, SDDC and open tech redefining both on prem and off prem datacenters.
Simone Brunozzi
I also predict that "Hybrid" will be more common than "Public", when talking about Cloud, for the first time ever.
Christian Bateman
@simon Partnership on DaaS with #Google and #NVIDIA an interesting one to watch.
John Furrier
2015 and beyond will be the innovation in the networks - the Google partnership is mostly a "barney" deal but that is the direction - take their network and developer mojo and blend it with vmware and magic!
Matt Eastwood, IDC
We still see 80% of IT spend going into maintenance. This is going to hold a lot of folks back.
Matt Eastwood, IDC
people and process need to change. Automation needs to be embraced. Re-training folks will be critical to survival.
Simone Brunozzi
John, Google + VMware is actually much more - customers have access to both environments and products. It's going to be HUGE.
Christian Bateman
@furrier disagree with you on Google/VMware - the combination of vCloud Air Enterprise features and google big query could be a game cahnger
Simone Brunozzi
BOLD technology prediction? Wow. So hard. Emergence of AI in our daily life (mostly mobile) by end of 2015?
Christian Bateman
@matteastwood + 1 on automation is needed. Screwdrivers don't scale.
John Furrier
I agree but from a product standpoint it's a barney deal; I was cool with that deal but the real action is in their peering and network assets and developer traction that's the gamechanger
Ian Noble
more people will move to current generation hardware and software allowing them to deliver more to the business and faster
Joe Baguley
Why has no-one mentioned the awesome VSAN yet? http://www.via-cc.at...

Eloy Ontiveros
What use cases are you seeing for VSAN 5.5 today?
Christian Bateman
I mean VSAN... not the shirt @joebaguley
Joe Baguley
@eloyont I think when you look at what we are doing with VVOLS as well, we are stepping up the game in storage
Simone Brunozzi
Joe you look amazing!!! :) @JoeBaguley
Joe Baguley
@eloyont So, now we are seeing VSAN used for pretty much every use case to be honest, now including "Tier One" apps - hence the T-Shirt...
John Furrier
someone said that VSAN is still far too expensive for an enterprise solution. I can build an all flash array delivering data by lightning and powered by the sun for the cost of VSAN licensing
Oliver Roll
Great to welcome you to #VMchat @joebaguley @simon @matteastwood!
John Furrier
cloudy today in palo alto with chance of vSphere
Oliver Roll
.@matteastwood - excited you'll be co-moderating with me! Can the 3 of you give the crowd an overview of your background? #VMchat
Joe Baguley
Indeed it is cloudy here in Palo Alto for once! Good start John ;-)
Matt Eastwood, IDC
Sure, I'm an IDC analyst looking at DC trends including virtualization, cloud, convergence, SDDC, etc. #VMchat
Matt Eastwood, IDC
Oh and I am a New England Patriots fan and #deflategate was just a big hoax! #VMchat
Simone Brunozzi
Thanks for having us Oliver! Italian / love espresso / found cloud job (evangelist) by building a church in Second Life / etc etc!
Joe Baguley
I've been the CTO for Europe, Middle East and Africa here at VMwar for 4 years, prior to that I was at Quest.
Simone Brunozzi
Joe, don't be too serious just yet! What about your international rally license? :)
John Furrier
Matt Eastwood is a great analyst and knows every corner of the enterprise biz
Joe Baguley
@simon That was a part of my mis-spent youth in the 90s... ;-)
Oliver Roll
Big launch week for VMware. @joebaguley could you summarize the news? #VMchat
Joe Baguley
Simply put, it is One Cloud, Any Application, Any Device.
Simone Brunozzi
One Cloud = customers are now able to take advantage of Hybridity - liquid pool of resources.
Christian Bateman
For those interested, here is a link to this week's announcements from #VMware http://www.vmware.co...
Simone Brunozzi
and they can run any app on either their own private cloud, or public cloud (vCloud Air), and move between the two
Joe Baguley
Essentially, thanks to advances in NSX and vCloud Air, and vSphere 6, on premise and off premise can become one.
Oliver Roll
.@simon @joebaguley Explain the power of network virtualization working together with Hybrid Cloud #VMchat
Joe Baguley
So, with enhancements to NSX and vCloud Air you can now extend your private network into the cloud
John Furrier
there was some significant openstack component as well
Oliver Roll
.@furrier just kicked off a thread on that one
John Furrier
What are the crowd's thoughts on Bill Fathers - he's wicked smart cc @billfathers http://www.via-cc.at...

Oliver Roll
And he used to learn the drums with John Bonham
Thomas Bryant
I read that in a boston accent, 'wicked smaht'
Oliver Roll
In case anyone doesn't know who that is - he was the drummer for Led Zellelin
Christian Bateman
Great video interviews on SiliconAngle and a podcast today on GigaOM
Oliver Roll
And who's that dashing chap talking to Bill
John Furrier
@oliverroll I had a chance to talk to Pat Gelsinger when he walked off stage and then did the vulan mind melt - what i found out will shock you
Christian Bateman
Here what bill has to say here - https://www.youtube....
rogertfortier
bubble quote from @bill to you..."Did you really just ask me that John?"
Oliver Roll
so are you going to tell us what shocked you?
Simone Brunozzi
@oliverroll You meant Led Zeppelin, of course! Here's my favorite song - https://www.youtube....
Simone Brunozzi
And, last but not least, our partnership with Google - customers loved it! http://blogs.vmware....
John Furrier
I will have to hold back the Pat G mind melt - ok I'll share it
