Mike Onsing
Can you explain to me what is #Hanlon in basic terms for a non-alpha geek?
Heather Simpson 🌈🍃
@mikeonsing, I'm going to call in an alpha and ask for help, because I'm neither geek, nor alpha :) Dork, maybe though :) @Tjmcs1 or @jcpowermac can provide explanation!
Joseph Callen
in non-alpha geek its to install an operating system to bare metal hardware
Joseph Callen
and install that OS in automated and policy driven
Carl R
@jcpowermac Only bare metal hardware?
Joseph Callen
nope most of our testing is done in virtual machines. I use KVM and ESXi for my testing, I know others use VMware Workstation or Fusion.
Helen Jones
Hi everyone, thanks for joining us! Feel free to submit questions and discussion for Tom @tjmcs1, he'll be joining us here soon! Catch him live here now https://plus.google....
January 29 TechTalk Soundbites: The Evolution of Hanlon - Google+
This event will focus on the evolution and latest relase of the Hanlon product that provides next-generation automation software for bare-metal and virtual server provisioning. The briefing will cover some of the lifecycle of the toolset since incept...
Mike Onsing
is there a live feed or hangout?
John Furrier
Hi I just added the video hangout in the Crowdchat which supports the google hangouts
John Williams
Hi Tom - good session. Looking forward to working with you on that CMDB integration - will be good to have end to end automation including the instantiation of CI data so we know the records are accurate from the start.
Jeff Ely
John, I would agree, the Integration with a CMDB and the ability to start with a known set of configuration will go a long way in standardization and service integration.
Joseph Callen
@mtnbikenc and I have started developing an @Ansible modules for #hanlon so we will be able to automate the creation of the image, model and policy slices that @Tjmcs1 was referring to.
Tom McSweeney
looking forward to fully-automated discovery and policy-based bare-metal provisioning with #ansible and #hanlon when that work is complete
Jeff Ely
@Tjmcs1 Tom, thanks for showing this version of Hanlon. I learn more each time you or Joe present it.
Tom McSweeney
glad you found the presentation helpful, Jeff; as always we're looking for more interested parties to help with #hanlon :)
Paul
Clearly Hanlon is a key building block in CSC's automation agenda - are we actively using it ourselves in daily operations?
Tom McSweeney
we've been using #hanlon for provisioning in the WebScale work we're doing in the Austin lab
Joseph Callen
I think with easier setup using docker we might see more operational use of #hanlon.
Paul
Great that an evolving toolset is in turn being used to support development of our webscale offering development really bringing the best of "next gen" together then!

And I saw talk about using it for Centos 6: https://c3.csc.com/p...
