Clearly a lot of business from the US Gov sector - is there interest being shown from public sector bodies in other regions/countries?
Matthew Carroll
Yes. We are actively in talks with several foreign governments as well as banks, manufacturing and insurance companies.
Martin Lee
@mcarroll_ Any healthcare interest?
Matthew Carroll
@martin3lee Not yet. But that is mainly due to the scope of our BD focus. Amino, our batch interface, has been pitched to several HC opps. But not the whole platform.
Lisa Braun
Will EzBake be brought into the CSC organization on GitHub or exist separately as a "sister" group? Asking more from a marketing standpoint -- is CSC (42six) seen as driving this? How many non-CSC non-42six contributors are there? https://github.com/e...
EzBake.io
A secure, technology agnostic Big Data application platform.
Matthew Carroll
Lisa, we tried to use the CSC GitHub but we have >50 sub-projects and GitHub is not very good at nesting. Projects to sub-projects so we decided to maintain repo for EzBake but is run by CSC. Non-CSC contributors are few but we want more.
Lisa Braun
@mcarroll_ Thanks for the info; interesting. Sounds like we should get a link to EzBake on the www.csc.com/opensour... page (at minimum). Will do that.
CSC and Open Source
With the acquisition of ServiceMesh and Infochimps, and a formal open source program, CSC is positioning open source as a key part of its technology strategy.
Tom McSweeney
@LisaAnneBraun, after discussing this with Matt and Steve we've agreed leave it where it is and just link to it somehow; still need to sort out the details on that
Rich Reba
On his Big Data PaaS crowd chat, Eddie Satterly mentioned that incorporation of EZbake into the CSC BDPaaS offering is on the roadmap. Interested also in how you see this relating to the ServiceMesh Agility Platform?
Matthew Carroll
Not 100% sure of the total vision, but platform needs to be laid down w/ secure policies. My perception is that SM lays down the fabric and deploys the platform. Most enterprises want multiple platforms to support on-prem and hosted clouds.
Carl Kinson
@mcarroll_ - what are the next plans for EzBake, any insight into the roadmap.
Matthew Carroll
Spark intergration, migrate to Kubernetes, dynamic security policy enforcement for data and user policies and support for more languages.
Carl Kinson
Great presentation Matt, OpenSource, CSC IP and client business need all in one solution, very powerful.
Martin Lee
Yes, agreed, very powerful, as well as agile
Rich Reba
great stuff @mcarroll_ - can you elaborate a bit more on how you are able to mediate security checks for every action while maintaining performance? it strikes me that has historically been a hard problem to solve in legacy SOA environments for example
Matthew Carroll
It's not perfect. We see a 10-30ms delay per query. But we cache the token on every machine for the auth and the big factor is by tagging the objects at the data tier we push the filtering workload to the disk. Which is a huge deal.
Rich Reba
@mcarroll_ got it - so the security filtering is just part of the map action (in map reduce) - no different than the query itself
Sorin Costea
Happy to see how this progresses. Where's that image/docs for the interested learners? :)
Matthew Carroll
@phowarth001 Paul can disseminate documents and please feel free to reach out to me directly.

A copy of the EzBake deck will be posted onto the C3 Soundbites page for this event (in the Technology space) and the replay can be seen here: http://www.youtube.c...

Impressive that you've cut certain dev activities from 8-12 months to 8 days! That's disruptive in a great way.
Martin Lee
I'm wondering if such advances are being done in all parts of CSC's development staff
Rich Reba
@mcarroll_ many of our clients are large regulated enterprises, and secure search across disparate data sources is a "holy grail". What enhancements should the EZbake OSS community focus on to extend the benefits of this to other industries (if any)?
Matthew Carroll
Interesting question. Creating more "SDLs" to databases we do not see often would be the biggest help.
Bob Donnelly
Rich, cannot comment on EZBake, but this is hard without multiple ingest into one DB. Merging disparate DBs is at best a migration. Application to other industries is somewhat independent of multi-DB issue.
Helen Jones
