Q5 Let's go out 5-10 years on #IoT. What's the vision? Everything is smarter? Our house runs itself? Our cars drive themselves? And the government knows everything?

dana blouin
They know everything already, BTW they have some questions for you.....

Tate Cantrell
Stretching 5 years to 30 years, IoT becomes more than tech. #IoTanalytics help to build a common good #philosophy

dana blouin
But to be serious, I see the IoT in 5 years as still growing, 10 years it facilitates context to everything we interact with, it will be pervasive.

Kevin Donahue
@danablouin that was pretty funny

Automotive IT News
Only 5-10 years out, no, [dangerous] humans still behind the wheel mostly, but connected cars will increase safety & reduce fuel consumption & CO2 emissions.

Tate Cantrell
we are leading to a world super computer, and with that power comes great responsibility #PeterParker

Kim Singletary
#IoT pervasive giving transparency to cost of goods, energy and effort. For consumers though privacy is at peril.

dana blouin
@ksingletary I am not sure its at peril, or just needs to be redefined a bit...

Rayno
@danablouin I can answer all the questions

Kevin Donahue
like most other technologies the benefits will come from applications we cant imagine. Who could have predicted the cell phone industry would effectively remove the desire for people to talk on the phone?

Tate Cantrell
@ksingletary categorization of data is super important and will allow coordinated edge/core infrastructure development

Rayno
@TheIoTGuy very true. Nobody knew in 1980 that we'd end up spending our lives texting

Tate Cantrell
remember #IoT is noise without analytics.

dana blouin
I wouldn't say that, but distributed computing in clusters perhaps, it will know more, it won't tell you what to do, but it will defiantly give you suggestions and predict your desire based off pervious behavior.

Tate Cantrell
the social fabric that is being woven now will be sewn together by the nextgen via #IoT. we won't recognize it.

Kevin Donahue
I can see how individual IoT data like home energy efficiency, mobile data, and car/telematics data can provide near real time insight into total energy usage.

Rayno
@TheIoTGuy Yes, like, I'd like to know how much energy my computers and TVs use when my kids leave them all on

Kim Singletary
Default 'plug n play' for #IoT needs to be changed, allowing for kill switch and clear data capture details to be addressed

Tate Cantrell
@ksingletary i agree with the opt out. but in the future opting out may make you more identifiable in a strange way.

Kim Singletary
@tate8tech Yes, a potential problem, an indicator of a non-conformist? More reasons to have these conversations and educate early and to look at broader policy issues

Tate Cantrell
@ksingletary definitely. philosophy will find its way back into technology. been a long time since aristotle.
