Many see the potential for cloud but aren't sure how to integrate with current IT systems. What’s the first step?
John Easton
Think about what workloads could move to #cloud today. There will be some. Move the standalone ones first
John Easton
Heavily integrated workloads will be hard to move so cut your teeth on the easier ones first to gain experience
John Schlosser
Experience is the best teacher so I believe private - Cloudburst - is a great starting point for those with a budget for R&D. Otherwise, partnerships (IBM) are key.
John Furrier
first step is culture then to reset and standardize then design operational model imho
IBM Software Defined
Organizations need to first define a cloud strategy in the context of their overall IT infrastructure strategy
IBM Storage
I´d say staring with a deployment of highly optimized dynamic infrastructure i.e virtualization
IBM Software Defined
Educate yourself and the biz about the biz oppty, cultural shifts and tech realities of cloud
Steven Dickens
look at simple, easy workloads such a dev & test, cut your teeth here first then grow, trying a hybrid multi-platform workload first is doomed to failure...
John McArthur
@IBMSDE Yes. Cloud strategy has to come AFTER understanding application performance, availability and recovery requirements, and AFTER assessing information governance, security, and privacy requirements.
Mike Walter
understand that cloud is an architecture not just a delivery mechanism
John McArthur
@JohnPEaston Yes, you can move stand alone apps more easily, but you first have to understand the availability, performance and governance requirements.
John Easton
@IBMSDE Also think about whether the organisation can consume standardised services. I see many organisations struggle with this one.
IBM Software Defined
Seek out open standards communities to take advantage of flexibility enabling greater choice and faster innovation cycles
John McArthur
@furrier Agreed, John. I've talked to organizations that have NO global IT infrastructure standards and others that have standards completely nailed down.
