Imhi Cho Suh, VP IBM Big Data Integration & Governance live on TheCUBE now. Post questions/comments below,
Bert Latamore
How does Hadoop work with IBM's revolutionary Big Data technology, Watson?
John Furrier
she is amazing executive
Bert Latamore
IBM is a leader in Big Data in general. Good to know it is at tdhe Hadoop Summit.
Bert Latamore
Imhi is fabulous. What a great surprise guest!
Bert Latamore
IBM finishing Beta now on BigSQL 3.0. Will have a session on it at #HadoopSummit tomorrow. Imhi promises that it will take SQL to new areas.
Bert Latamore
IBM working with business schools and tech schools worldwide to build a curriculum for data related jobs such as chief data officer & data scientist.
John Furrier
IBM spends 3-4 billion just on analytics r&d doesn't include m&a
John Furrier
IBM does another $4b in M&A just on big data & analytics
Bert Latamore
Then another 3-4 billion on acquisitions.
Bert Latamore
John @furrier & @Jeffreyfkelly wrap up the three days of Hadoop Summit 2014 on #TheCUBE now. http://live.silicona... Post comments/questions at https://www.crowdcha...
Bert Latamore
Q: Is Hadoop a replacement or an add-on to the data warehouse? Lots of debate over the three days -- what do you think?
John Casaretto
I think it comes down to how mature of a business you are talking about. They can co-exist, some companies can go greenfield, others modify, adapt appropriately
kytsune
Is anyone tracking how many lines of code and commits that various big vendors have pushed towards Hadoop open source? It's not the perfect metric to see who's up to what but it's might give an idea. # of lines is bragging rights often.
kytsune
I second that question, Hadoop as replacement or "live aside" given its role in open storage and capability with analytics.
Bert Latamore
Best interview? Probably Abhi Mehta.
John Furrier
yes lots of great interviews
Bert Latamore
Hadoop vs data warehouse certainly was a thread that went through a lot of the conversations on #TheCUBE.
John Casaretto
Security was a big topic throughout the conference
kytsune
I really enjoyed the WANdisco demo done on theCUBE yesterday. Demonstrating nonstop Hadoop between two datacenters really did a good job of showing how strong having that sort of product can be for an operations team, anti-crisis, etc.
John Casaretto
Also critical security-focused acquisitions in the news, plays to the enterprise.
Bert Latamore
I also liked Imhi Cho Suh. I always enjoy her.
Bert Latamore
Fantastic list of guests overall. Great interviews.
kytsune
Thanks for the great Cube show and chat everyone. Hadoop Summit has been amazing.

Brett Rudenstein of WANdisco is about to demo NonStop Hadoop on #TheCUBE.
John Furrier
I love demo's on theCUBE
kytsune
Nice. He's talking about how the system handles latency (plus the demos shown are pretty neat) I was listening and glanced over, and the US map was a good distance visual.
Dave Vellante
we just did a survey a large portion (27%) of respondents said lack of enterprise-grade availability was one of the biggest barriers to adoption
Dave Vellante
Now as @furrier is pointing out - continuous availability is the cousin of H/A and a smaller %age of the mkt will need that - perhaps 10%?
Bert Latamore
There is the availability. How is the security?
kytsune
"Continuous availability" is like extreme distance RAID for computation and data -- since all the nodes are the same losing one means the computation can just ask a different one. Looks good for disaster recovery.
Bert Latamore
Does this then eliminate the need for backup? And what is acdtually transferring. Certainly not Pbytes of data.
Bert Latamore
Great presentation. Fascinating technology.
Bert Latamore
Joe Hellerstein, Co-Founder & CEO opf startup Trifacta live now on #TheCUBE with @furrier & @Jeffreyfkelly. Post questions/comments below for John and Jeff.
Bert Latamore
Q: As users move to production with Hadoop r they building internal systems or looking to cloud service providers for Hadoop platforms?
John Furrier
Frank Artale is the new investor from Ignition Partners
Bert Latamore
Who is buying Hadoop is an evolving story, Hellerstein says. It is becoming increasingly relevant to the LOB.
John Casaretto
Would love to hear some great Trifacta examples
John Furrier
. @Texiwill asks
@furrier what is happening around privacy of derived PII within hadoop pools.?
John Casaretto
@zrotech Thanks for the example @joe_hellerstein I've been wondering where Big Data and Meaningful use would intersect
Bert Latamore
Rob Bearden, CEO Hortonworks, live now on #TheCUBE.
John Furrier
market is working because the dollars opportunity is massive says Rob Bearden
John Furrier
analysts are validating the mkt numbers and @Jeffreyfkelly new survey has new supporting data
Bert Latamore
Hadoop is the enabler for vendors to move into a Big Data market that is expected to reach $50 B by 2020 according to analyst consensus numbers.
Bert Latamore
By having access to all the Big Data shifts the business model from reactive post-transaction to proactive pre-transaction. Completely transforms the business models.
John Furrier
Hortonworks pushes key four pillars: core tech, open data platform/services, ecosystem having services ontop of platform, 100% opensource
Dave Vellante
Loved Rob Bearden on #theCUBE talking about proactive interaction prior to the transaction...nicely put
Dave Vellante
Bearden talked about a $50B market implying there's lots of room to make $$
CrowdFather
Rob Bearden is very savvy executive understands the market
Bert Latamore

Hadoop 2.0 was the beginning of scale for #bigdata says president of Hortonworks on @theCUBE via @merv
Bert Latamore
Hadoop is coming along, but it is still very early in the cycle and there are many possibilities.
Bert Latamore
Moving in events processing, real-time platform. That’s where we’re going, says Herb Cunitz, Hortonworks President, on #TheCUBE
Bert Latamore
What is the direction of Hadoop development going forward?
John Furrier
ease of use is the key direction of hadoop
Bert Latamore
Hadoop will become the central system for accessing multiple kinds of data so that vendors can plug their platforms in and automatically connect to security, etc. says Cunitz
Dave Vellante
@Furier although he really didn't answer your ? About cash
Dave Vellante
vast majority of people tell us that their big data projects (almost by def'n) involve multiple data sources
