Secure Mission Critical Data
Q+A and Comments with Oracle's "Re-inventing Critical Enterprise Database Protection" Webcast
Dave Sumner Smith
Some suggest we need legislation to force firms to better protect their growing data banks. Would you support data legislation?
Mike Briercliffe
> There IS data legislation - support it or not :-)
Dave Sumner Smith
@mikejulietbravo Is data protection legislation properly enforced?
Mike Briercliffe
> its hard to enforce - but there is at least an attempt to enforce it I think
Pamela Harding
Enforcement is critical from my POV.
Ken Grey
Cheap storage leads to more data. That increases the risk and standard backups can't cope.
Pamela Harding
Also, more and more data is being captured...when will we reach a point of saturation?
Mike Briercliffe
Very true Ken - we are generating data on a massive and random scale #wz #accenture
Ken Grey
When IoT hits in a big way this is a scary thought Pamela
Pamela Harding
It's already here....and we are getting further and further behind every minute
Mike Briercliffe
Thanks everyone for participating - AND those who "lurked" and didn't login. Hope you found it useful. Site remains open :-)
Mike Briercliffe
Webcast closing now - But CrowdChat hub remains open for several more hours
Ariana Gradow
Can we ask questions here?
Mike Briercliffe
yes indeed Ariana :-)
Mike Briercliffe
Crowdchat performed very well by the way :-)
Robin Chatterjee
We used to do this with zfs, incrementals roll forwards and snapshots... this is much more efficient.
Pamela Harding
Great concepts to ensure that there is no loss of data. http://www.via-cc.at...

Mike Briercliffe
> good visual Pamela thanks
Mike Briercliffe
Good Morning West Coast > Good evening Europe :-)
Ken Grey
Hello Mike from Yorkshire, England
Lisa B
Evening, I am looking forward to the webcast about #zerodataloss http://www.oracle.co...

"Data protection is one of the most important aspect of your data portfolio" according to @acolvin of #Accenture #Enkitec Group #WZ http://www.via-cc.at...

Ken Grey
I was waiting for Cloud for backup getting a mention
Mike Briercliffe
I have a question for the data techs among us ... are they still here?
Mike Briercliffe
I'll ask it anyway :-) Where does Unstructured Data play into this question? #nosql
Robin Chatterjee
If you are saving your unstructured datathat you have mapreduced vis oracle r connectors thenits stored in your oracle rdbms... and backed up to zdlra... the rest is junk :)
Mike Briercliffe
@robinchatterjee > is there a recognisable borderland between structured and UNstructured Robin?
Robin Chatterjee
once you get it into an oracle rdbms its structured... but if you import it all as blobs or clobs its useless
Mike Briercliffe
@robinchatterjee > a very traditional DBA view if I may say so Robin :-) #bigdata
Robin Chatterjee
basically you want information from your big data to be stored in your structured database.. not raw data :)
Mike Briercliffe
@robinchatterjee > yep - I get it Robin - I thought others on here might want to hear your view :-)
