How can the app track development WITHIN a certain skill? For example, maybe I picked up a basic level of Java last year, but what if I want to progress to an advanced level?
Craig Van der Velden
I have a vision that the app will be able to track level of competency of each skill, I.e. Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced; Let's see how the think tank groups bring this idea to life!
Selina Hohenstatt
I am thinking about different kind of stamps you are able to update through more experience. So you can have e.g. a JAVA basic badge, a C# Advanced badge and an HTML expert badge
Tom McGaw
Personally I believe that experience is also important in measuring this skill. A course with no follow up experience will have a completely different development activity than 12 months of hands on experience.
Jeff Ely
This is where the idea of badges and achievements come in. You would post achievement like certifications and the idea of earning badges as you complete activities
Selina Hohenstatt
@cpvdv Great minds think alike :)
Craig Van der Velden
@SHohenstatt That's a great cohesion of the idea and gamification, Selina. I like it!
Selina Hohenstatt
@tommcgaw Agree, I think we should value both
Michele Spector

Absolutely Yes. Way to structure and shape our careers our future and in turn future of the organization. Kudos to all who worked on this
Jeff Ely
The New IDP tools will give you a starting point on the skills that you should be investigating and a way to plan out you learning and development for the coming year.
Paul
I love the way IDP has become so much more integrated and we now have a clear pathways to help everyone map out their skills development objectives - great work!
Lisa Braun
The IDP tools help you leverage the good assets of CSC University--we need to unlock the richness of those assets.
Michele Spector
I agree Lisa! Watch this short video to see how easy it is to find thousands of videos on IT topics in CSC University's Books 24x7! https://c3.csc.com/v...

Are there plans to track skills acquired outside of the workplace? Skills not directly related to work but useful e.g. teaching, coaching etc.
Lisa Braun
I would hope so.
Mark Nebreda
absolutely 100% but in a volunatry basis of the employee i.e. sharing what skills they wodul to ahve reflected in their passort
Craig Van der Velden
It has always been the view that it will track workplace skills but also every-day teachings and skills not related to work
Ganesh Swaminathan
Really a futuristic thinking. Reiterating the point that we are in an era of learning continuum. And learning happens through multiple channels. Tracking all of that and capturing into a digital passport in an app in your hand phone - that is great.
Mark Nebreda
Technology Leaders like Ganesh are building the tools and platforms to support our next gen evolution
Mark Nebreda
This is the Milenails chance to leverage these investments and enablers to deliver the art of the possible
Selina Hohenstatt
I like the idea of a digital CV! What do you think? http://resumup.com
Matt
Just put one together but wants you to pay to actually download the images!
Kyle Zellman
Love this. I'm a big fan of resumup
Selina Hohenstatt
@MattMJH You won't have to pay in the Skills Passport App :)
Lisa Braun
How does the skills passport differ from a resume/CV?
Selina Hohenstatt
I think it should give you a clue about possible next steps in your career, not only looking in the past...
Lisa Braun
@SHohenstatt Makes sense. A planning tool as much as an electronic record.
Craig Van der Velden
@SHohenstatt I Agree Selina! The SP App will look to track those skills, allow people to rate their competency and track the evidence of associated skills, qualifications and experiences
Mark Nebreda
It a powerful way to capture the skils being developed in a career and life journey
Mark Nebreda
CV relies on collaeing the material as a manual effort in the skills passort it digitall caotures the career cookies in real time so your cv is always digitally current
Tom McGaw
CV's typically compress your skills into 1 or 2 pages making it difficult to see all of your skills. An app will not have these restrictions and will let you get a more comprehensive picture of your skills & experiences.
Selina Hohenstatt
And you can group your skills to get a better overview
Craig Van der Velden
@SHohenstatt I think it will be great to see how it can visually demonstrate like what we see at Resumup's website. Plotting skills on a graph and using Badges to drive additional learning. Exciting!
Ganesh Swaminathan
Since it is also an App it can give you different perspectives and intelligent dimensions which a simple electronic record can't provide
Selina Hohenstatt
Thanks for your introduction to IDP Rose, sounds great!
Craig Van der Velden
Agreed. I think it was very useful and a great run-through. Thanks Rose!
Lisa Braun
I like the idea of the Skills Passport app possibly being open source. That way the entire open source community could enhance it, and it would be one more feather in CSC's cap regarding its own open source program and open source leadership. Thoughts?
Tom McGaw
Great idea although the integration components with commercially sensitive systems possibly couldn't be made open source.
Mark Nebreda
Maybe we submit the beat build as an open source project and the broader Mielnnial community take to the moon and back with their innovaiton and features they develop into a digital passport
Carl R
Over time there will likely be other apps improving aspects of our work life experience. Is it foreseen that the Skills Passport will interoperate with other apps?
Mark Nebreda
A great question and challenge. We need to think with our Technologists how we can capture data form other apps and a level of open and stds and interoperability.
Carl R
@marknebreda And, presumably the Skills Passport and other apps will use common data. A challenge as to which app, system etc. holds Master Data?
Tom McGaw
I completely agree. Interoperability and integration will always pose this challenge. Decisions regarding master data ownership will need to be made as the app develops and each time new apps are integrated.
Lisa Braun
Yep, these are important questions that have already come up to an extent on the Skills Passport team. Will evolve as the app work gets started.
