@furrier companies trying to move from "avoid failures" to "reduce/eliminate" downtime. better monitoring needed. big part of the DevOps space and Cloud Native apps.
John Furrier
. @bgracely totally agree the mgt space is key.. we have lots of their customers coming on feel free to ask us questions
Eric Sammer
How does Splunk reconcile the increase in new sources and volumes of data with their message of "only collect the important stuff?" Their tech doesn't allow for that kind of ubiquity across the org. Always been an issue with them!
John Furrier
Top two conversations in security for SVP Security at most companies 1) malware in apps and 2) phishing
John Furrier
. @esammer thanks for question @ggilbert41 is here too so we will ask that.. nice one Eric
John Furrier
@esammer asking this question now to a customer
Donnie Berkholz
10x 2014? That must be a mistake. Their own prospectus says 2014 had 2600 folks: https://conf.splunk....
John Furrier
@esammer says " @furrier @ggilbert41 I wonder how that message resonates with their customers whose queries don't return in time but costs keep increasing"
John Furrier
" @esammer said 8m8 minutes ago " @furrier @ggilbert41 I think we get Splunk's position, but our experience says customers may need a different solution. "
Donnie Berkholz
@furrier "2015 has 4,000 attendees, 10X 2014" - 4000 attendees is more like 1.5x 2014.
John Furrier
@dberkholz I think he meant 10x from the original Splunk conf I'm guessing but yes it's not 10x from last year
Hyoun Park
@esammer Agree. Rocana, TIBCO Loglogic, Elastic all show up in Blue Hill's community as cost-effective ways to replace or augment Splunk
Rocana
.@bgracely Agreed - "better monitoring needed." Rocana +others that do it better: http://ow.ly/Sx0Yl

John Furrier
role of the product company is to ship product says Guido Splunk SVP Product
John Furrier
Splunk's a product company at heart and the success is do to great leadership like Guido and the executive team. A world class mgt team
John Furrier
@dahowlett the minute they move to being more solutions vs product they might be in trouble; don't see that yet
John Furrier
@dahowlett solutions comes from product so splunks efforts on solutions is enabled by the product; SAP is an example of more solutions than product imo

We’ve never seen this level of activity ever. Security teams are overwhelmed. Companies are looking for anything that can help. Atif Ghauri on #theCUBE
John Furrier
in security there is no defense; best practice is to assume penetration and use data to identify and secure
John Furrier
security problems come from "bad code" not so much hardware says security guru
John Furrier
blame all the security issues today to the software developers :-)
Bert Latamore
Unfortunately the good guys are definitely loosing. Most companies are like a child on a trike with a squirt gun. They don’t have a defense. Atif Ghauri on #theCUBE
John Furrier
Randsomware is a big problem - eg cryptolocking up your data then hold it hostage - wtf wow
Bert Latamore
We are coming to the point where security breaches could lead to deaths, whether a car that crashes or an energy generator that is compromised. When that happens companies will start seeing security as safety. Atif Ghauri on #theCUBE
Bert Latamore
Splunk is in a good position because it’s a platform. With Splunk we get more into anomaly detection rather than profiles. Atif Ghauri on #theCUBE
