#Cloud : What are the biggest challenges in #cloud and in adopting #containers #microservices and #devops ?

Fabio Giannetti
change the way you develop a ship code

Fabio Giannetti
is like you have to re-design your supply chain :-)

Ashutosh Malegaonkar
Microservices seems the way to go, but it's complicated. Education about it is key !

Ben Schumacher
Confusion re: critical elements of #cloud. Tools aren't as important as team and processes.

ashley roach
probably easiest to start adopting #containers using greenfield applications.

ashley roach
otherwise, refactoring a working application probably doesn't make sense for, say, an enterprise.

Jock Reed
Yeah I think the biggest problems are still companies getting started. A whole lot of people are still stuck on traditional architectures. #Cloud #DevNetCreate

Jacob Adams
Maybe this is a niche thought, but I think there's a struggle to break large monolithic applications into a 12 factor/microserviced style apps! That's a lot of dev + resources, especially for old apps!

Ken Owens
start with setting a vision and getting your devops, eng, support, and business aligned

Jock Reed
Training and taking partners with companies that want to help bridge the void from #CloudReady will be the key, like @Cisco and @Docker

Ken Owens
break the business solution into services and determine the best #microservices architecture to address

Ben Schumacher
@aroach I'm not certain I agree w/this. There's value to be gained in better supporting tooling, but there can be significant investment.

Neelesh Pateriya
Bootstrapping team, infrastructure and processes for microservice/containers. Once bootstrapped, development & delivery moves to fast lane.

Ken Owens
as your developing your services, refactor your tools, processes, and business support systemjs (monitoring, alerting, billing)
Wael Kamel
devops and which model to follow we are looking at following the self-service model that Damon Edwards talked about

ashley roach
@benschumacher right. i suppose you'd need some hard business drivers such as scale or performance. certainly #shinyobjects isn't a good reason. it probably will happen, but may take a loooooooooooooong time.

Tessa Mero
challenges always include adapting to the extensibility of your software

Tessa Mero
Senior engineers and managements willingness for change with using tools as your product evolves

Ben Schumacher
@aroach Couldn't agree more.

Edwin
Alignment is the key. People have different thoughts on DevOps - level of automation, level of complexity, avoid over engineering etc

Jock Reed
@aroach I am thinking a lot of companies might find a lift and shift useful for starters, moving VM apps to containers. Once their #container app skills grow, then develop the right way. But starting on the path is the key.

Ben Schumacher
@JockDaRock Right! Lift & shift carries its own complexities. Great tools can smooth the transition.
