good article from HBR valid point but big reason is active user value to fb is huge + not letting fragmentation and competition fork their global plan

This was an interesting chess move, and while Zuckerberg touts a long-time relationship with Jan from WhatsApp, it's clear to me that this is somewhat driven by market share, and grabbing those 1bn ppl WhatsApp is/was targeting. Well-played, Mark

WhatsApp has twice the number of users as Twitter. WhatsApp has 3x the growth that twitter does; $1 yr/mo or whatever is huge; app installs are huge; users base international is huge; fb wins with this
