"to be in the cloud" is a specious goal. The org's mindset has to shift before any cloud provider/distro will be perceived successful.

It's coming. We (@ZadaraStorage) already do that. Even on premise.

Commodity HW consolidation continues until margins can be maintained. That's coming soon too. And new architectures.

HP is conflicted bc Open Compute Project is threat to their server business and a huge opportunity in cloud with Open Compute and Openstack; Lets be honest #devops are a new pychographic where old models don't work for this new breed of IT.

the opportunity is in innovation, not revenue. Big guys will let the innovators do just that, then implode, then scoop them up and start making money with the carnage

What is your take on IBM Cloud with Softlayer buy? Can they get the devops mkt? Selling servers to Lenovo is big signal that cloud is the way

I think it's a play to cut costs by integrating a hw/sw stack, broaden their revenue base in the face of shrinking product margins and ultimately provide a service to have more customers w/margin cushion across the company.

Question for the crowd: how many thought leaders, companies, and product ideas have been spawned from ex-Cloudscalers? (It's a long list.)

OpenStack does not have a reference architecture. A reference architecture is required for interoperability and compatibility. A given product or flavor of OpenStack will be interop (like RHEL), but OpenStack itself will never be interoperable.

No, OpenStack is not a reference implementation. It's code and APIs. A reference implementation is an implementation or deployment.

Randy Bias Agreed. Is Nebula including ALL of OpenStack or just cherry picking? That sounds like lock-in.
