A6. On-prem VDI is an expensive and complicated commitment. You have to decide how many users to support, then purchase everything to build the infrastructure. With users coming and going, you were either under or over-provisioned.

One of the key issues with VDI is the “I” - the infrastructure. With VDI, you have to think about the servers, IOPS, disk images, application layering, printing, user profiles, login times, number of monitors, GPUs, pixels and bandwidth, client updates, etc.

But is it necessary? Not at all. Most orgs don’t need VDI for all of their people, which is why it’s important to identify what your people need to be secure & productive and then select your digital workspace technologies accordingly.

Also, it doesn't have to be an either/or situation. Orgs can deploy VDI/DaaS for the 10% of power users who truly need a full virtual desktop, then deploy Virtual App Delivery for the rest. As @ParallelsRAS said, revisiting the right delivery method is key.

A4 Before the pandemic, remote work was mostly on an as-needed and privileged basis. As the world gradually recovers, many employees have proven that remote work not only “works”, but it's now their preferred way to work. VDI powers remote work and remote work powers the future.

At Parallels, we’ve seen customer requests to add additional seats to their existing VDI environment, as well as customers who are brand new to the VDI space. We also added short term contracts during the pandemic, which then extended into long term ones.
