A very good question. The edge looks a lot different today than 2 years ago! Data growth is unpredictable and compute needs are unknown as new workloads proliferate

many of the devices at the edge have limited or sporadic connectivity. How can VxRail act help connect the last mile with these sorts of devices?

accelerated #Cloud adoption for sure. #DTCP on #VxRail + @vmwarecloudaws is the accelerated path for customers that need to deploy a #HybridCloud quickly.

Those that were unprepared for the pivot won’t soon forget, and will prioritize modernization so it doesn’t happen again.

A2: #COVID has been detonator not only for remote working deployments, collaboration tools & #digitaltransformation but also #VDI, #WAN opt., endpoint #security, cyber-resiliency, #dataprotection & hybrid #cloud adoption! And they are all here to stay!

I think we will see an increased acceleration with edge and vdi workloads. But also seeing an increase in data science as orgs are looking for possible vaccines and tracking data of the spread. VxRail is perfect in either scenario.

Big changes in security - accelerated shift toward endpoint and security clouds, def as-a-service models increasing popularity, major changes in networks away from MPLS & even questions around VPNs and SD-WAN as the Internet is the new private network

WFH may be more the norm, we see customers moving from cloud VDI to on premise deployments for long term support

first #VxRail customers in Brazil and Latin America 3-4 years ago were mostly consolidating generic virtual workloads rather than deploying #VDI and it was easy to jump to production workloads as the nodes got more powerful

- The power of “operational freedom” is real with VxRail despite the workload.

I've seen a push to try to use HCI for more general pods. Customers I talk to still prefer a 3-tier architecture for general pods. HCI has become a great "appliance" architecture and a wonderful platform for SMB.

The biggest pain point has been disjointed operating models. VCF has promise but HCI in the enterprise has been just another platform to manage. When you have VMAX/PowerMAX, Isilon, and VxRAIL/RACK that's a lot of overhead.

We have seen large customers start at the edge and then allow #VxRail to proliferate into their core and we have also seen the opposite. The economics of HCI make sense in both places

@RobSteele If customers can standardize on an HCI platform, there's clear hybrid-infrastructure/cloud benefits. It's tough to get consensus on a single platform within large organizations. Things like application certification remain a challenge.

VxRail has a common control plane with storage through vVols and VCF. It's a powerful and unique way to extend consistent operations across HCI and storage.
