Global SKILup Day
One more question! What is the most important piece of career advice you’ve ever received and why?
Dheeraj Nayal - Organizer of Global SKILup Day🦸‍♂
Challenge yourself, identify your passion, realize your dreams !!
Helen Beal
'Make yourself redundant.' Sounds bizarre - but distributing/training others in your skills or automating it let's you move to the next stage of evolution.
Rose Dyson
Trust myself.
Listen more than talk.
Sanjeev Kumar
You have the skills & acumen to start the journey … you will learn & develop as go on your way!

(edited)

Jayne Groll
My first mentor advised me never take yourself more seriously than the work you do (don't let your ego get in your way)
Jeremy Douglas
Love Rose’s answer!
Rose Dyson
Don’t lie, admit when I don’t know something, admit when I recognise a mistake, ask for help.
Jeremy Douglas
help others before you help yourself!
Rose Dyson
When going for n interview, accept that it is not me who decides if I have the skills and personality they need but the selection panel.
Suresh GP, MBRM
Dream Big, Believe in yourself and Follow your passion!
Jayne Groll
We've included some "Mindful Moments" in the agenda that focus on wellness "how-to" tips. Why is wellness an important focus area for the #HumansOfDevOps to #upskill?
Helen Beal
We need to learn and create learning organisatons - anxiety is the quickest way to disrupt a human's ability to learn so we need to stay calm and sponge up the knowledge
Sanjeev Kumar
removing the fear of failure allows people to grow from their mistakes … else its just rejection and no risk & innovation taken
Rose Dyson
Is it important in the DevOps culture to form "communities"? Which ones are you part of?
Rose Dyson
I have been an active member of the itSMF and IIBA for many years. I subscribe and am an active member of the DevOps Institute, I also connect with groups in MeetUp.com.

Global SKILup Day
Community building is huge! Great question Rose!
Dheeraj Nayal - Organizer of Global SKILup Day🦸‍♂
Love every community that is open but not closed and bridge the gap between humans acquiring new skills, knowledge, ideas, learning !!
Helen Beal
I feel like it's one big global community and you can dip in and out of things like this or AllDayDevOps or DevOps Days or DevOps Enterprise Summit or Slack channels or just reach out direct on LinkedIn to people
Amanda Mattos
This kind of community inside the company engaging for learning and sharing is powerful, cause people, teams, areas can learn so much with each other experiences and perspectives...I have seen it working beautifully
Global SKILup Day
What is the responsibility of the community to help individuals learn and vice versa? What is the responsibility of the individual to help the community learn?
Helen Beal
We are humans and socially wired - we are only successful if the people around us are successful - we should all be paying it forward!
Dheeraj Nayal - Organizer of Global SKILup Day🦸‍♂
The communities are created with common interest. But also bridging the gap between humans and communities will break silos and create a holistic community both ways !!
Rose Dyson
The new ways of working hinges on collaboration. We cannot collaborate without a community, right? We are richer when we share our knowledge with out peers and communities of interest.
Sanjeev Kumar
Be part of the bigger picture, be part of if all
Dheeraj Nayal - Organizer of Global SKILup Day🦸‍♂
The theme of #GlobalSKILupDay is "HOW-TO" providing actionable skills, knowledge, ideas, learning. What is the most interesting thing you are looking forward at @GlobalSKILupDay ?
Helen Beal
I want to know what a resiliator is!
Dheeraj Nayal - Organizer of Global SKILup Day🦸‍♂
Do watch Karen Ferris session at @GlobalSKILupDay . You will love it !!
Rose Dyson
"Resiliator"... ask #KarenFerris ;-)

Helen Beal
If you're a Project Manager and you've practiced Prince2 for years, and your organization is going through an agile transformation, where does that leave you?
Dheeraj Nayal - Organizer of Global SKILup Day🦸‍♂
But realistically - reflection, assessment and then execution
Helen Beal
If you're a manual tester but you're really not familiar with test automation or you're an IT Ops person feeling that cloud is threatening your livelihood, what advice do the team have?
Dheeraj Nayal - Organizer of Global SKILup Day🦸‍♂
I will advice him to go to NewOps Days. It will be really interesting for him/her to view the new ways of working.
Global SKILup Day
Upskill through new technologies and processes! There are plenty of people and resources out there (for free or for sale) that can help you learn what is possible and how to use the experience you do have for new opportunities!
Sanjeev Kumar
Need to learn, need to grow, need to move forward .. we all have to change, the how & the when is for us to decide
Global SKILup Day
Next question: If DevOps was a board game, what would it be and why?
Dheeraj Nayal - Organizer of Global SKILup Day🦸‍♂
For Business leaders - it would be monopoly,, For operations - Scribble :P
Helen Beal
Bananagrams?! No wait. That's just my favourite game. ;-)
Helen Beal
Hungry Hippos?
Global SKILup Day
Helen For The WIN!
Dheeraj Nayal - Organizer of Global SKILup Day🦸‍♂
Imagine Thanos snapping #DevOps a decade ago. Would the world have been the same today without
#DevOps ??
Rose Dyson
We just had to have it!!!!
Global SKILup Day
absolutely not! But, would the ideas and principles around Lean and Agile have persisted as well?
Sanjeev Kumar
.. to quote jeff Goldblum from Jurassic park 'devops would find a way'
Helen Beal
Would it just have a different name? Would it all be about SRE? Or agile at scale?
Dheeraj Nayal - Organizer of Global SKILup Day🦸‍♂
Or it would be an Advanced Software engineering or full stack engineering !!
Jayne Groll
The technological advances that support a global society would not have accelerated as fast as they have.
Amanda Mattos
DevOps rocks! even if with another name!
Jayne Groll
I wonder what we would call it if it had another name?
Suresh GP, MBRM
How do you motivate your teams amids pressure in business environment and technology landscape?
Helen Beal
1) Release the pressure! Make the work visible and control the flow 2) Give them autonomy - distribute authority and empower them 3) Give them master - let them take time to learn 4) Help them discover their purpose and align it
Dheeraj Nayal - Organizer of Global SKILup Day🦸‍♂
Sometimes the basic gives the best solution. Creating a healthy competitive friendship within Team, get them going even in crisis. This is both personal and professional.
Sanjeev Kumar
show the team how key their work is in the overall deliverable … ownership & being part of something that is great is a key motivator
Sanjeev Kumar
it should never be a race and it should never be me versus him/her …. one goal .. one team .. one time .. one success
Global SKILup Day
great question! By enabling everyone to enjoy their work and have no limits on getting the work done easily and effectively. The creation of high performance is through culture and understanding!
Jeremy Douglas
by keeping the focus on learning every single day. If the #1 goal is how to improve, the journey takes a life of its own and you reach places you never intended or thought possible!
Jayne Groll
Great question. Humans are often motivated in different ways than leaders may think. Carving out to time during the day to learn is important. Recognition is important too.
Rose Dyson
They love having the autonomy to choose the tool they want to use, play and see what they can do. So, give them a sandpit.....
