How do you motivate your teams amids pressure in business environment and technology landscape?
Helen Beal
1) Release the pressure! Make the work visible and control the flow 2) Give them autonomy - distribute authority and empower them 3) Give them master - let them take time to learn 4) Help them discover their purpose and align it
Dheeraj Nayal - Organizer of Global SKILup Day🦸‍♂
Sometimes the basic gives the best solution. Creating a healthy competitive friendship within Team, get them going even in crisis. This is both personal and professional.
Sanjeev Kumar
show the team how key their work is in the overall deliverable … ownership & being part of something that is great is a key motivator
Sanjeev Kumar
it should never be a race and it should never be me versus him/her …. one goal .. one team .. one time .. one success
Global SKILup Day
great question! By enabling everyone to enjoy their work and have no limits on getting the work done easily and effectively. The creation of high performance is through culture and understanding!
Jeremy Douglas
by keeping the focus on learning every single day. If the #1 goal is how to improve, the journey takes a life of its own and you reach places you never intended or thought possible!
Jayne Groll
Great question. Humans are often motivated in different ways than leaders may think. Carving out to time during the day to learn is important. Recognition is important too.
Rose Dyson
They love having the autonomy to choose the tool they want to use, play and see what they can do. So, give them a sandpit.....
Dheeraj Nayal - Organizer of Global SKILup Day🦸‍♂
#DevOps movement reminds you of which popular movie that has its own fabulous journey !!
(A #DevOps biography in making ;)
Dheeraj Nayal - Organizer of Global SKILup Day🦸‍♂
DevOps : The Good, The Bad, The Ugly - possibly the title of #DevOps biography !!
Global SKILup Day
Love this question!
Dheeraj Nayal - Organizer of Global SKILup Day🦸‍♂
"Whiplash" would be another as it talks about journey to excellence while exploring your own passion :)
Sanjeev Kumar
I use the Good The bad & The Ugly all the time … great movie too!
Dheeraj Nayal - Organizer of Global SKILup Day🦸‍♂
So, lets get this movie on floors in 2020 - DevOps : The Good, The Bad, The Ugly - Looking for production team now ;)
Helen Beal
One of my clients did an internal DevOps presentation based on The Nightmare Before Christmas
Sanjeev Kumar
This is Halloween, everybody make a scene
Helen Beal
I used to use shots from The Big Short, Spotlight and Making a Murderer as a quiz in DevOps lunch and learns to show how expert humans are at creating dysfunctional systems - and theirs probably isn't that bad...
Global SKILup Day
Return of the Jedi!
Amanda Mattos
sometimes it's like Game of Thrones
Helen Beal
How do leaders learn to be better leaders?
Dheeraj Nayal - Organizer of Global SKILup Day🦸‍♂
"listening" - Build on this important skills and reflect !! You would be a leader to admire :)
Suresh GP, MBRM
Definitely exploring different types of leadership, biographies and willing to experiment. Leaders can learn a lot from their own people and teams.
Jayne Groll
This is more of a challenge that many know. Training, education, assets for leaders are very diverse and sometimes not aligned.
Sanjeev Kumar
listening is key as well as seeing the bigger picture .... a true leader motivates other to be the same
Global SKILup Day
By actively participating in everyone's transformation (not just their own)!
Dheeraj Nayal - Organizer of Global SKILup Day🦸‍♂
leadership is getting redefined just like emerging technologies. CEO are CIO/CTO now as well !!
Amanda Mattos
As leadership is not just about delivering work, practicing active listening, empathy, encourage autonomy and acts of leadership on others
Dheeraj Nayal - Organizer of Global SKILup Day🦸‍♂
How the Enterprises can align with #upskilling and their #digitaltransformation plans to get the best ROI and align with new ways of working ?
Helen Beal
Hand autonomy and budget to capacity funded squads/teams - empower them to build learning time into every sprint (if they are sprinting)
Suresh GP, MBRM
I am big believer of the #Dojo #DevOps community events that gives everyone a platform to ask and share among the fraternity
Jayne Groll
The 2019 #UpskillingDevOps report confirmed that leaders would rather hire from within or upskill existing staff. Companies like @Amazon publicly announced a huge investment in Upskilling2025,

Next question and hot topic in IT today: Burnout is a big problem these days. What tips do you have to prevent it?
Helen Beal
Make the work visible! And then control the flow. Then remove the waste and then accelerate the flow through automation.
Dheeraj Nayal - Organizer of Global SKILup Day🦸‍♂
That is why creating your own roadmap of Skills, knowledge, ideas, learning is very critical. It makes fun to enjoy your job, loving what you do !!
Helen Beal
Make leadership about discovery and not about management (management will be automated anyway so if you're a manager...)
Dheeraj Nayal - Organizer of Global SKILup Day🦸‍♂
Create your own tribe and learn, share, empathize. Love the Dr. Christina presentation at #DOES London this year on #burnout
Suresh GP, MBRM
I think it is a growing concern. Follow the #Mentalhealth - Connect with your friends and family. Be Open and believe everyone has a tough patch. Don`t put a lot of pressure to yourself. Listen to music :-)
Jeremy Douglas
by taking dedicated time to focus on your own personal journey. Listening to music, going for a long walk, meditation - anything away from a screen!
Sanjeev Kumar
roadmap to self discovery … pathe the way to where you want to be
Jayne Groll
It is really easy to become consumed in your work but sometimes at an unstainable pace. Take intentional time for yourself - even 5 min at a time during the day.
Helen Beal
Remember human behaviour is driven by brains - seek to understand the brains!
Amanda Mattos
keep lean in mind...limit the WIP
Rose Dyson
We need more coaches, transformational leaders, DevOps Leaders, good scrum masters.
Look after people. Listen to the team and act on impediments. Give people appropriate time to do what needs to be done and to learn.
Rose Dyson
Schedule time to learn and be innovative.
Jayne Groll
Every session at Global SKILup Day focuses on "how-to". Where else do you get your how-to knowledge?
Global SKILup Day
online tutorials are a great way to learn, as well as YouTube instruction videos! Anything in particular come to mind @JayneGroll?
Helen Beal
I like to ask people!
Global SKILup Day
Yes, Helen! The people doing the knowledge work are always the best source for this kind of knowledge!
Sanjeev Kumar
all my cloud self learning came from getting online courses or via youtube .... normally 7 hours a course but then time you do practical/revisiting it takes about 13 hours
Rose Dyson
we can get some good ones in youtube and individual blogs. But, the DevOps Institute Guru Cafe gives me a one stop shop.
Amanda Mattos
on Community. I always learn a lot with people sharing their real life experiences.
Suresh GP, MBRM
I love the microlearning series. Short videos are very powerful. Love it
Rose Dyson
I spend 50-60% teaching and I learn a lot from my students.
