#makedatasimpleBig Data & Analytics in 2017 What’s in store for the world of data & analytics in 2017? Industry experts share their predictions!
Bob Egan
Hi everyone. Sorry to be a bit late!!
Oliver Clark
no worries, welcome! :)
Katie McWilliam
welcome! Good to see you :)
Dr. Angel Luis Diaz
Welcome to the crowd!
jameskobielus
Welcome to the Crowdchat, Bob. Jump right in (post your responses are the relevant questions).
IBM Analytics
Q2: How will your organization keep #technology and #data strategies aligned with your business objectives in 2017?
Bob E. Hayes
We keep up by setting clear and measurable goals/objectives and identify factors (through analysis) that influence those measures.
Dr. Angel Luis Diaz
A bit part of this is going to be culture change - how we conceive, develop and iterate offerings
Aviv Canaani
They have to tie down to business ROI
Nancy Hensley
you have to build a #data driven culture and make the data accessible, that alone is a big cultural shift to open it up
Dr. Angel Luis Diaz
@angelluisdiaz Specifically how to organize a data science & dev team, and create a data governance program interlocked with offering definition
Jennifer McGinn
By aligning your data strategy to your monetization strategy - use data to better the way your organization makes money - many industry examples here
jameskobielus
At IBM, one way we're keeping technology and data strategies aligned with business objectives is through data-driven marketing, next-best offers, and other initiatives that boost bottom line while also maximizing value to customer.
James Cammarata
Must have CIO + other business leaders involved. Funding and need comes from outside IT.
Bob E. Hayes
#datastrategies is always front and center - as a data-driven business we strive to instrument and operationalize data analysis to provide the richest possible context for decision-making.
Nancy Hensley
The #CIO and #CDO must be partners in crime on this cultural change
Tripp Braden
Our organizations are putting together more cross functional teams to help create more synergies from the start of the conversations to insure everyone is on board with goals and objectives
jameskobielus
Another way that IBM is keeping our own technology and data strategies aligned with business is by empowering everybody with superior KPIs, reporting, visualizations, and other data-driven decision support tools. Our own, obviously.
Paula Wiles Sigmon
I wonder what % of organizations today consider themselves data driven . . . and how many aspire to that
Nancy Hensley
this is also why designing the #data architecture through the lens of the consumers is critical
Dr. Angel Luis Diaz
@paulawilesigmon Very good question - lots of folks aspire to it, most do it in pockets, few do it across the board.
Bob E. Hayes
@jameskobielus Do you have courses that teach all employees statistics or statistical concepts? That would be cool if you did.
Nancy Hensley
it's less about gathering data, more about how it can be accessed, leveraged and collaborated on
Bob E. Hayes
@paulawilesigmon That's a good question. Anybody want to sponsor a study?
IBM Analytics
Who is the most important person within an organization to lead the culture change?
jameskobielus
@bobehayes Those opportunities are certainly available to our personnel. They're also available to our partners and customers through great resources such as bigdatauniversity.co...
Bob E. Hayes
Starts at the top. CEO.
Tripp Braden
I would say all people have to get more involved if you hope to have the change stay and impact the way an organization does business '
Nancy Hensley
to me, alignment has to be to every major decision in the business. It has to be data driven. Bring your #data or go home :)
Dr. Angel Luis Diaz
@JenMcGinnChi A great way to start is to choose projects that (1) simple to execute/deliver (2) have a bit impact to the business.
James Cammarata
CEO and other senior leaders
Craig Brown, Ph.D.
More #collaboration between #crossfunctional teams and #technicalteams to ensure alignment across the #enterprise.
Dr. Angel Luis Diaz
@avivdc data scientists can see the forest from the trees - ROI comes down to the relevance of those forests!
Bob Egan
A key focus I see is that organizations are working to make technology and data solutions as agile and secure as theyou expect the people to use them are
Dion Hinchcliffe #AdobeSummit
The best way for the business to become aligned with #tech and #data priorities is to democratize #datascience. Most knowledge workers must become a data scientist and IT's role is to provide access to tools, know-how, and the data oceans.
Tripp Braden
@bobegan I wonder if you put the people closest to the customers in position to share what they learn faster if that won't help insure faster adoption across the organization
Dion Hinchcliffe #AdobeSummit
@nancykoppdw Yes, also, many organizations are creating a Chief Data Officer role, Deutsche Bank has this role for example. The risk is that it's another silo. Why it's key to shift culture towards a more data-centric and open sharing model.
Dez Blanchfield
The primary challenge here is to ensure that there is a SINGLE comman lingua franka aka common language and vocabulary around the topic and get oflk speaking about #DataScience in the dame way ;-)
IBM Analytics
Please be sure to post the answers to your questions in the reply box, thanks! ;)
Paula Wiles Sigmon
@TrippBraden Yes, storytelling is key, to translate data into something meaningful to the business
Tripp Braden
@paulawilesigmon If you add good visualizations to the story you can increase your impact significantly. Secret i might be know your audience
Nancy Hensley
A1 - I think the challenge for any industry is making it more consumable so that it can be embraced in any business
Bob Egan
this is an excellent point of view Nancy and critical for organizations
Tripp Braden
We need to become better at telling stories around the data and show how these things will impact our listeners
Tripp Braden
A1 Data Science will be transforming financial service markets by changing the way the work with customers
Nancy Hensley
I think it's easier to say where #datascience won't have potential impact. There is virtually no industry or part of the business that would not benefit from it
Tripp Braden
Looking forward to great chat today on the outlook for CIOs and CDOs in 2017
Dez Blanchfield
