I like this company and I've been checking around on Alation and lots of insiders like it too

Alation is a startup that lets analytics teams access data in the human context. It uses machine learning to see how people in their customers use data. Ebay & Square using them.

Alation has been around for about 3 years, but just came out of stealth in March with eBay, Square, and Safeway as customers, among others

they help hundreds of analysts and data scientists at eBay find data, re-use queries and collaborate on insights

there is huge opportunity for a data company to crawl databases and BI tools in an enterprise and surface the results to analysts to increase analyst and data science productivity

Myth 1 - big data = Hadoop.

Myth 2 - more data means better answers

Better answers come from asking better questions - hire the right ppl (w both stats skills and biz savvy)

Myth 3 - data science is a science

Data science is part science...part art-- like the movie Ground Hog Day -- Bill Murray was too much science (A/B) testing and not enough art (just be yourself)

Myth 4 - #bigdata is all about actionable insights. Rudin says it's really about taking it to the last mile and making a *real* business impact.
