For me it is the ability to add the storage I need and it be available without jumping through hoops.

SDN is really changing the face of networking and having an impact across multiple industries, would #webscalestorage be viable without it?

To me, webscale = ability to scale up or down in a very dynamic fashion, much like AWS, for example...

to me webscale storage refers to the ability to provision storage to your apps as your needs grow. simplicity, flexibility and removing the need for forklift upgrades are a must

At Coho we feel #webscalestorage is about delivering storage thats easy to use, requires very little management and scales on demand. Key is no fork lift upgrades and no planning

For us we had storage devices all over the place. A pool here and a pool there. Managing it was a headache. (Aggregate, Volume, NFS/iSCSI)

I think webscale is more than just scaling to massive levels. It changes with way you buy, and manage your storage.

I needed a single pool that could grow with our needs and not need a storage management degree to manage.

SDN lets you add storage intelligence in the fabric. better load balancing, ease of provisioning and deprovisioning storage nodes, failover are some of the things which become way way simpler

SDN is also about increasing the width of the connectivity into your storage. Making connectivity scale alongside capacity.

its not about implementing to 10,000 nodes but having an architecture which can let you get there
