Steve Herrod
Which newer company do you think will make the biggest splash at #VMworld?
Ashok Bhojwani
Now thats a great question. I'd be curiuos to know as well.
Aaron Delp
It's officailly a crowd chat, Stephen's here! My vote has to be SolidFire of course (shameless plug and I'll stop after that)
John Furrier
I like DataGravity and Docker two favs
Ashok Bhojwani
My Vote will be for Docker !
Christopher Wells
@aarondelp I vote for @cohodata ... but alas I am biased too ;)
John Furrier
@aarondelp Solidfire might be on the wrong side of the street if the flash mkt shifts
John Furrier
I like @epowell101 new company stackstorm
Aaron Delp
@abhojwani Sorry... no way I couldn't take a swing at that one... Seriously, Best one I've seen lately is Platform9, VMW alumni
Coho Data
we like to think we will make an impact at VMworld but maybe we are biased :)
John Furrier
I think that there is a #bigdata company out there we haven't seen playing in the cloud that will be disruptive..I'm looking for that wave
Ashok Bhojwani
@aarondelp Platform9 concept is good, but imo, they are a little late to the game
Aaron Delp
@furrier Ah, but SolidFire is way more than flash... don't want to make this a product pitch so let's talk offline sometime. I do agree though that a market shift could put others in danger. Good point
Aaron Delp
@vsamurai_com For your sake (and mine) I hope @cohodata makes a good run of it! We need to catch up Chris!
John Furrier
@aarondelp i'll be at the their beer party to get the scoop. I think they are doing too much spreading to thin but i need the update
Christopher Wells
thinks there's too many SDS start-ups. I guess we're proving his point... LOL ;)
Aaron Delp
@abhojwani I think are hitting it at the right time. Few competitors in the space right now and evolving product right as OpenStack "buzz" is shifting to hosted management.
Aaron Delp
@furrier Beers on me Monday John!
Aaron Delp
Too many damn vExperts went to storage companies. There's your problem right there... oh, wait...
Shawn Cannon
@aarondelp HA! I am a vExpert that is just an average day to day user of VMware. Should I find a storage company to go work for? ;-)
Coho Data
In general companies that can show value to their customers quickly, identify customers paint points and show how they solve it all in a 45 sec pitch will make splashes :)
John Furrier
Not sure I call Nutanix a new company but they are disrupting with their approach
Gregg Holzrichter
Looking forward to introducing more folks to @Atlantis_USX - moved beyond just VDI workloads to accelerating any VM workload and reducing capacity by 90%. Nice value prop to work with...
Scott Davis
#VMworld turing into a storage conference this year with all the new players. @Infinio included! I'll be laying out the 5 new storage architectures in an unbiased manner @vbrownbag 1PM Monday. That said, I vote for #Docker as most disruptive.
CrowdFather
@shd_9 Docker is winning the developers
Scott Davis
Of course the other way to determine most disruptive at #Vmworld is which new tech/Companies does #VMware respond to in their keynote! ;-)
Gabriel Chapman
@Crowdfather True, but will it win with the admin teams who have to manage it? Still see a technical disconnect for rank and file IT teams.
John Furrier
Opening it up for any and all questions and ideas to discuss
Aaron Delp
We've all heard rumors of potential announcements. What rumors do we want to come true? Which ones will start fights with other vendors (again). I have no insight anymore so I get to ask that ;)
John Furrier
@aarondelp dude you rock crowdchat - nice; to me the rumr noise is not just about docker but the issue of laying down the "nail spikes" to stop the AWS onslaught
Tim Crawford
[redacted] announces [redacted] which [redacted]. Available today!
Tim Crawford
AWS is their own challenge in many ways.
Aaron Delp
@tcrawford Actual LOL Tim... Agree with @furrier, the game seems to be defensive lately vs. offensive. I would love to see VMW go on the attack again
Jamie MacQuarrie
Everyone is looking for ways to compete with AWS. Opportunity for small companies to innovate and be acquired. Not sure we'll see adequate innovation from the major players.
Tim Crawford
@aarondelp One has to wonder if VMW can turn the corner. They're a little late to the game and have some formidable momentum against them.
Aaron Delp
@tcrawford It depends on which game they play. I'd argue they can change it just enough to where they are in a good spot. It's all about "the rules" and VMW is good at making markets if needed to survive
Gregg Holzrichter
I think the hyperconverged space is going to get a few more entrants next week. Flash DIMMs will be a differentiator moving forward
John Furrier
Pat Gelsinger is not a defensive player never was in his career
Jeff Frick
Watching the #VMworld twitter feed flow by on the right, not seeing anyone talking #VMworld who's not in this #CrowdChat.
Thoughts?
#VMware $VMW #VMworld2014
Tim Crawford
...at least not any more. :)
Sylvie Otten (Sollod
Cool idea, eh @henrikwagner73 @furrier Let's do another tailgating CrowdChat party for #VMworld Europe! Building the cool vibe!
KenSaul
It's all been about #VMworld - #EHC, #Virtual #SAPHANA, #AskPat, #beers, #tea #hotel, #restaurants - what else do you want?
Aaron Delp
Pulling the pin and throwing the grenade: Does anybody think VVOLs will become "more real" this VMworld?
EMC SAP
BOOM. Probably not. Wish it would. would make life easier for our #EMC #SAP Solutions
Rick Scherer ☁
The problem is that the hype has slowly died, the initial announcements of VVOLS happened two years ago. I think we're finally going to see that it's REAL, but it will be up to the partners to create use-cases and drive adoption.
Gregg Holzrichter
Great topic - new capability in Atlantis USX is VVOL support - provides the hooks to any storage to make compatible with VVOLs. New abstraction layer and APIs make it possible. Should accelerate general adoption
EMC SAP
So the important question. When at #VMWorld what is your favorite restaurant.
Aaron Delp
This is telling. Not so much restaurants, bars: Thirsty Bear and The Chieftan
Aaron Delp
Restaurants: Believe it or not the Schwarma place across from Moscone West. Love that place and you can get Kinder Eggs for the kids (banned in US, hard to find)
EMC SAP
@aarondelp Amazing. I been there at least 3 times last year. Good suggestion
Henrik Wagner
best part of SF, just step out around the corner and you will find great food
Stuart Miniman
I make sure to pack some Cliff bars in my bag since I'm often too busy to get a real meal. Amber's Indian buffet is excellent and close. SF is full of great places, just usually lower on the priority list during this show.
Rick Scherer ☁
Old Siam Thai.... mmmm
Coho Data
Take a look at Zero zero, greens and american cheese grill.
EMC SAP
I heard the sentennial is amazing sandwich shop. it is an old cigar stand. I show it on the food network. looking forward to trying it.
