Two Questions: 1) What are EMCs Thoughts on FusionIO selling to Sandisk? Obviously public valuation are not in lie with private valuations. 2) What challenges do private companies have competing with the big dogs like EMC?

With thin margins, and 90%+ of revenue from 6 customers, is makes sense for SANdisk. Popping skins on servers isn't for everybody though- #FlashEverywhere baby!

These private companies can't hire talent when their valuations are in the billions. Their window to execute is tiny. They will all crash an burn or be absorbed by the street

Not just FAST hinting. VMAX3 has a workload planning service (built-in) that can understand the workload pattern and forecast how much headroom is left based on both capacity and performance.

Is there any change in how much Cache the VMAX3 uses for things like MetaData. ?

Guy, Apples-Oranges. VMAX is enterprise architecture, RAS, resiliency and best in class with the ability to hyperconsolidate mixed workload environment with multiple data services running. It's not just speeds & feeds.

Most storage players (including AFA) focused on speeds/feeds. VMAX3 changes the game with a focus on apps/workloads.

@BGallagher32 I agree but the competition throws that FUD on speeds and feeds. As @stevie_chambers points out in other thread; mixed workload of hybrid require certain tech/flexibility cross mgt etc..

VMAX3 has built-in analytics to understand mixed workloads and their resource needs in the system. Sounds too good to be true :)

AFA definitely has a place. Chad Sakac did a nice job at EMC World explaining various storage architectures and their place.

FUD from dual-controller AFAs that degrade performance under heavy load is hardly a threat. VMAX and XtremIO both offer better availability with consistent, predictable performance.

As a Microsoft cloud guy I see, feel and hear enormous demand for hybrid cloud storage, like FAST but with an Azure backend... is it possible to get VMAX3 to consume Azure on the back end?
