Alistair Winner says the public cloud approach of replacing rather than repairing failed hardware will slowly move into the enterprise market and impact it.

But that hyperscale approach to managing hardware is based on cheap hyperscale infrastructure & 100% virtualization, with data centers managed on a single pane of glass. That is not common (to say the least) in enterprises today.

HP appears to have a very strong story in software-defined networking, both in product & internal experience moving their own huge corporate network to SDN. Is it enough for HP to take market share from Cisco?

#SDDC is a huge opportunity and providing the services to that fast evolving market is a big deal imho

Totally agree. And if HP can capitalize it will do a lot for the company. And it could move HP up as a converged systems provider. Those two areas -- network and converged systems -- can feed off each others' growth.

Alistair Winner just said his #1 focus in hyperscale. Does HP plan to compete in the big service provider hardware market -- Amazon, Google, etc. -- against the white box makers?

Or is it expecting hyperscale to start moving into HP's traditional enterprise market short term?

HP could have blown the entire software play if they didn't play the autonomy integration properly; Kadifa played it well

Autonomy was a mess when Kadifa took over - Autonomy now is in a position to do some damage - Idol on-demand, HAVEN, etc.

The key is developers imo - HP is weak in the developer mindshare at this point. Needs improvement

How strong is HP's development package vis a vie BlueMix, AWS developer tool set? Will it compete?

HP has to put their best people on really winning the new generation of developers; if they do they can win the entire game

The people I talk to such as OnApp say OpenStack is more a toolkit than a full platform. So if Heleon is pure open source & OpenStack as HP keeps saying, is this a full cloud solution? And where is HP's differentiation?

Meg Whitman really is passionate about those political issues. And she is right. No doubt she came alive.

@furrier True, some of these companies like Docker are being created to be sold. But in flash storage at least IBM and HP have their technologies. EMC might need something better but who else would be buying?

with servers it's about compute not about boxes

And when you go to a software-defined architecture then less of the critical functdionality is on the hardware.

Overall I am seeing a lot more strong corporate vision Than I did in December. And HP has some good technology and a good vision going forward. Its big handicap is that it has to do all innovation internally -- it does not yet have money for acquisitions.
