Andy @CSCHybridCloud, thanks for your talk today, can you summarize what the difference is between the ServiceMesh Agility Platform and the Hybrid Cloud Services Offering?
Andy Fugate
Than you Rich. HCS provides the Agility Platform as a Service under a more standardized, supportable model to allow for the scale CSC anticipates. All features provided by Agility Platform are available, with some restrictions on customization.
Rich Reba
@CSCHybridCloud got it - so instead of having to buy Agility Platform licenses, our clients can subscribe to it as PaaS
Rich Reba
@CSCHybridCloud and not just Agility Platform - but also the extended support needed to subscribe to and manage multiple cloud environments (e.g., integrated billing)
Sorin Costea
@CSCHybridCloud restrictions on customization?
Andy Fugate
Yes, we need to ensure our support models are not broken by extensive customization
Andy Fugate
Details are being documented for publication in the next few weeks
Sorin Costea
@CSCHybridCloud Published I suppose together with a library of blueprints, right? :)
Andy Fugate
That's correct, Blueprints, Templates, and base policies to get the client started
Paul
You mentioned the use of the hybrid cloud model inside CSC for development activities etc - is this likely to be expanded further e.g. for lab environments? Thinking labs-as-a-service kind of construct?
Rich Reba
I love this idea paul - labs-as-a-service
Jeff Ely
Yes, lab-as-a-service could go both for internal CSC and for work with our partner/vendors
Andy Fugate
I see HCS and/or AP as the base for any as-a-service offering. I doesn't need to be client facing to establish value. If CSC can role out services with the efficiency afforded by this technology we benefit as well
Sorin Costea
me's still eagerly waiting for that customer zero development platform... we can grow from there in any direction
Paul
and a good way to get hands-on experience and experiment with the art of the possible! Maybe even some co-innovation with interested clients
Andy Fugate
As part of the HCS development we are working on the blueprint for deployment of the HCS environment itself!
Helen Jones
This is such a hot skill area - i'm sure lots of our tech community members aspire to become experts in cloud. What's your advice on what they should do to succeed in this area?
lewis richards
learn micro services architecture and use of Docker ;)
lewis richards
google it all we heard last week in Silicon Valley
Helen Jones
ok, i shall consult Prof. Google :) ty
Andy Fugate
ServiceMesh has great training. As well as our IaaS provider partner training
Rich Reba
@CSCHybridCloud Andy as HCS moves into OLM Launch&Scale, Tech Transformation World Class Talent program (#4) can help accelerate learning throughout the 45,000+ strong CSC tech community - Helen is program #4 coordinator
Rich Reba
@CSCHybridCloud what are some of the challenges you've had to overcome to bring this capability to market?
Andy Fugate
Well, keeping up with demand. Our desire was to launch slow. But, this is a complex market with many use cases. Also, ensuring that all the support models are solid.
Rich Reba
A related question: why do you think other platform vendors haven't brought forward similar capabilities?
Andy Fugate
We've seen competition take many forms. Mostly focused on a single provider in combo with a private cloud. I think the reason for this is the complexity of programming the features for multiple cloud providers.
Jeff Ely
@CSCHybridCloud what challenges do you see in CSC supporting a HCS
Andy Fugate
The complexity and variety of use cases requires vigilance in maintaining a standard deployment and architecture
Carl Kinson

Thank you Carl, I really liked this article

Will CSC position ServiceMesh as a neutral tool to any cloud supplier or we will still push CSC Clouds ?
Carl Kinson
the drive towards brokering, requires the need to work across Public and Private clouds, the work already done with AWS and planned work with Azure is a great example.
Andy Fugate
This is another difference between Agility Platform and Hybrid Cloud Services. AP can be customized to be that neutral tool. Where HCS is intended to meet the major market demands by providing adapters to CSC cloud and our IaaS partners
Sorin Costea
How will having ServiceNow on top of this influence the solution?
Andy Fugate
We are looking forward to the benefits ServiceNow will bring as CSC is fully responsible for all aspects of support for our provider environments.
Carl Kinson
complimentary as we see the drive towards OSS/BSS , and providing the client with end to management and visibility of their IT Estate.
Paul
I noticed a quote from a Financial Services company - is this one of the richest areas for hybrid cloud adoption? Are there other "Hot" sectors?
Carl Kinson
only of the aspect i like is the enablement of DevOps, which the Agility platform enables. Any business looking to embrace DevOps as a framework need the tooling to support the process, any industry is a good candidate.
Sorin Costea
@ckinson in this strict devops context, agility is just one from the crowd...
Rich Reba
@sorincos but i disagree - key to devops is automation of the delivery pipeline - which includes automated build, unit test, performance test, security test, acceptance test - all potentially in different environments - Agility orchestrates environments
Rich Reba
@sorincos without Agility (and, really, without Hybrid Cloud Services), your environment options are more constrained, potentially increasing risks and time-to-delivery
Paul
and hence the ability for a new "digital business" to be deployed to catch market sentiment etc is enabled - new insurance product, new banking product, new media/services product etc
Paul
A big thanks to Andy Fugate for the session today. Remember the replay can be found on Youtube along with a growing series of Soundbites recordings. A full schedule for November has just been released. Youtube link: http://www.youtube.c...

Can you more about the self-service SAP - what SAP services are we talking about?
Henry Singer
.. Can you say more ...
Andy Fugate
SAP as an application is where the slide was coming from. We are currently working with the SAP team to develop the blueprints for integration of the SAP aaS offerings
