Q7: Trick question for the crowd :-). At IFA 2016, what will be the dominant theme? #IFA2014 #IoT
ThorstenSchroeer
since it is still a consumer show wearables will be still on top of agenda
Susan Hallen
wearables will be everywhere and connected to other devices and companies
Gurvinder Ahluwalia
I feel some new paradigms of "programming" will emerge. Just as new paradigms for programming have emerged for cloud applications, sometimes called "cloud native" development.
Gurvinder Ahluwalia
IoT-native architecture and IoT-native development.
Sanjay Panikkar
@guriahluwalia IoT native dev platform - interesting!
Gurvinder Ahluwalia
node-RED and IFTTT show early signs of IoT-native development.

Question for Veena: Lot of activities around loT taking place in the developed markets; how is the scenario for IoT in the emerging markets shaping up?
Veena Pureswaran
In mature markets, the focus has been on smart homes, connected cars etc., high value applications. As the IoT expands to everyday things, like Mobile, the impact will quickly reach emerging markets.
Sumabala Nair
#IoT will likely evolve differently - to address the needs of the emerging markets. While adoption might be slower, like the adoption of mobility or the intern, it will probably piggy back on the lessons learned in the developed markets.
Gurvinder Ahluwalia
Just piped into the crowdchat.. In agri-intensive economies, bringing soil composition and weather data - via devices and via tractors - helps farmers and crops in emerging markets.
Hariharan B
When we are thinking about the smarter planet, how we are going to maintain our planet greener? Please through some lights on e-waste management and plans of IOT enabled devices/chips
Sumabala Nair
This really ties in with making our devices not just smarted, but better. There are green businesses that are actively trying to engage in reusing e-waste. http://bit.ly/VSKAiN. I would envision every device being able to share information on its 'retirem

Connected devices of the future should optimize power utilization more efficiently
Ravi B.G.
Better reverse supply chain tracking capabilities. The device can be tracked till it reaches the manufacturer/e-recycler for efficient e-recycling.
Susan Hallen
great question...and recycle, reuse of devices and disposal issues are paramount to the discussion...need to move from constant new devices to software upgrades as a start
Veena Pureswaran
cradle to cradle.. allowing us to not just track but reuse and repurpose all things

Q4:To build a successful #IoT business model, what should manufacturers be paying most attention to?
ThorstenSchroeer
to me data ownership....who owns data can derive value out of it...but as a manufacturer buying equipment I want to own the data and not the product OEM.
Veena Pureswaran
The value of data in the IoT is a bit unrealistic as well. While there will be enormous demand for data, with billions of devices there will be enormous supply as well.
Veena Pureswaran
Plus manufacturers underestimate the cost and risk of storing user data. The era of trust is over :)
Susan Hallen
the winners will be the ones that can use analytics to find the value and connections in the data
Hariharan B
Can IoT and related technology get matured to drive the real clods and bring rain when and where required? sorry if this is too funny....
Veena Pureswaran
connected raindrops :)
Sumabala Nair
You never know! weather report-> forecast need for rain-> jet 'seeding' clouds, sensors picking it up....
Sumabala Nair
would save he movie guys a lot of money.. and the farmers a lot of angst :)

Q1: For our beginners, let’s start by defining: what is the “Internet of Things” #IoT?
Sumabala Nair
To me, simply put, its about making the world around us a whole lot smarter and better.
Sumabala Nair
Internet-of-Things (IoT) provides the foundational infrastructure for a smarter planet, and offers significant growth opportunities in IT, infrastructures and services
Violeta Alexandru
It's about more and more devices sharing data in a truly interconnected world
Sumabala Nair
The adoption of IoT in its current form has already started in the Healthcare space. Check out http://bit.ly/YYhXCW

Veena Pureswaran
Hello, this is Veena Pureswaran, Global Electronics Industry Lead at the IBV
Ravi B.G.
Hi Veena, Lot of activities around loT taking place in the developed markets; how is the scenario for IoT in the emerging markets shaping up?
Hariharan B
Supply Chain is going benifit greatly from IoT, Do you think IOT will help in product design as well?
Ravi B.G.
Do u see any issue with respect to privacy cropping up? Eg:- companies tracking my behavior and location though my wearables.
Veena Pureswaran
Biggest issue IMO
Hariharan B
Supply Chain is going to benefit greatly from IoT, Do you think IOT will help in product design as well?
Veena Pureswaran
Definitely. The IoT will reshape our ideas of product design. Creating simple, reliable user experiences will be key.
Susan Hallen
agreed Veena, but need to look deeper at the "trust' impact.
Gurvinder Ahluwalia
IoT will fundamentally change product design. We look at design from outside in. Product design will be viewed from user experience, not component assembly.
