Blogging, Digital Working
A weekly Tuesday chat on Digital ways of working and related subjects - @Carol_Stephen @LazBlazter
Larry Mount
#DigiBlogChat Q1. How do you start blogging? Please answer the questions by replacing the Q with an A (for Answer)
John Furrier
Key is to get a easy to use CMS today that is wordpress. Then get some compelling content that is targeted to a specific community
John Furrier
Blogging and using social networks are at interesting crossroads
Kelsey Mulcahy
A1 compelling content is a must- short and to the point as it will likely be skimmed by the reader!
John Furrier
I've been blogging for such a long time it seems that competition like facebook.com/silicon... is a group I put together
Bobby Johnson | Facebook
Bobby Johnson is on Facebook. Join Facebook to connect with Bobby Johnson and others you may know. Facebook gives people the power to share and makes the...
Brian Fanzo
A1. For me blogging is my way of dumping what I have in my head out for others to learn from..
John Furrier
User experience is #1 issue with lots of new digital tools out there. CrowdChat for instance is it's on CMS and creates value where tweetchats can not
John Furrier
Brian: blogging is now journalism not real blogging like it was 10yrs ago where people really collaborated and linked to each other. Sharing was the way then
Kayla Matthew
@furrier everything must be posted to a social media site once it is written on wordpress or other location, otherwise no one will ever see it
Brian Fanzo
@furrier I believe when you say journalism I start to think official and has to be perfect grammar and I think that is what scares many away from blogging
John Furrier
@kayla_matthew I see social being standard in all connections and the ethos of blogging will be just sharing - key is having a connection with others who are in the flow - flow equals more interactions
Steve Karam
A1: I blog to learn. Nothing provokes new discovery, promotes self-education, and enables knowledge sharing like educating others. #DigiBlogChat
Steve Karam
A1: Blog to learn, share socially to get the conversation going. I like to think of my professional social network braintrust. There's a lot we can discover together. #DigiBlogChat
John Furrier
@iSocialFanz totally that's a huge issue it's too formal which scares people and no one in blogging links anymore
John Furrier
@OracleAlchemist @scobleizer and I have always talked about this. Blogging is your resume and persona
Steve Karam
@furrier No doubt! I actually call @OracleAlchemist my online alter-ego. Build your brand, and use blogging as your knowledge hub, both incoming and outgoing, with social networking as the vehicle.
Kayla Matthew
How does everyone come up with the titles for their blogs? I'll admit that's often the hardest part for me..
Steve Karam
Great question! I'll admit to being tempted to follow SEO recommended titles. Usually though I opt for amusing and irrelevant to SEO, sadly.
Kayla Matthew
@Carol_Stephen I think that's about what I usually spend because I can't think of anything witty! https://twitter.com/...
Carol_Stephen
@kayla_matthew I heard a statistic that bloggers should spend 80% of their time on their blog captions. 80%! #DigiBlogChat

Steve Karam
Example: If I'm blogging about DigiChat, I'd title it "Digital Chit Chat with DigiChat." I'm not about brevity.
Brian Fanzo
Title of blog for me is something that can grow.. Social rocks cause you can test and tweak as you go and grow!
Kayla Matthew
Challenge: Digital Chit Chat on CrowdChat with DigiChat lol!
Crowd Doc
@OracleAlchemist I try to think like unworthy or buzzfeed for inspiration because I alway enjoy their titles even if they are just click bait
John Furrier
I read the NY Post for ideas :-)
John Furrier
shorter is easier for users but longer is better for SEO
John Furrier
Seriously data has shown the title and first two sentences drive click thrus to getting real reads
Steve Karam
@CrowdDr How does @CrowdDr title his blog posts? The answer will blow your mind!
Jenny Taylor
@furrier I will admit that many times that is all I read of blogs!
CrowdFather
Jenny I agree with you
Kelsey Mulcahy
@furrier That goes back to what @Carol_Stephen was saying about the 80% spent on about two sentences!

Question: What percentage of companies will have social presence (like web presence today) in 5 yrs? meaning they will be doing business in social channels?
Crowd Doc
I think venmo is a great example of mixing social and biz together- it makes money exchange fun and easy
Crowd Doc
check it out http://www.thewire.c...
Why the Venmo Newsfeed Is the Best Social Network Nobody's Talking About
Due to its incredibly intimate look at how your friends spend their money, the Venmo newsfeed has become one of the most interesting, informative social networks out there. But don't say that too loud, or you'll feel like a creep.

@furrier Do you mean of existing companies John? I would hazard some 25% of businesses unless they grasp the #SocBiz baton #DigiBlogChat

Kayla Matthew
@CrowdDr YES I love seeing what people are charging each other for on #venmo lol. More businesses should think of this fun and easy socialbiz. A newsfeed is the best place to skim content, including blogs
Steve Karam
@CrowdDr Nice, I hadn't seen #venmo. As someone in the Education/Experience space, this is the kind of home run I want to accomplish.
Crowd Doc
@OracleAlchemist definitely worth taking a look! Its a modern day paypal-like app but with social.
John Furrier
Is the % of companies using social going to be > 50%?
Larry Mount
RT @OracleAlchemist Seriously data has shown the title and first two sentences drive click thrus to getting real reads #DigiBlogChat
CrowdFather
I think that is the most important factor in blogging attention; substance of the post drive audience
Larry Mount
@Crowdfather I agree, once the content is in the hands of others they determine reach and effect
John Furrier
titles do create viral but great content always has the "legs" to run in the social channels
Larry Mount
I wonder which generates the best revenue opportunities?
John Furrier
Problem is right now good content is not valued as much as pageviews so many optimize on "trainwreck" blogging gossip rumors negative stories are popular; trends are shifting to long form though
Jenny Taylor
yes @furrier my thoughts exactly. the number of clicks is valued much more
John Furrier
Question: What are the participants thoughts on CrowdChat?
