it will be interesting to see which overseas airports they decide require implementation of this protocol. http://www.theguardi...
US-bound passengers may have to switch on mobile phones for security
Some direct flights to US will require passengers to show cellphones to security as authorities work to counter threat of explosives

this is huge issue bc I don't mind leaving toothpaste or shaving cream but leaving my iphone #fail
Tim Crawford
I understand the reasons to do this, but fear the effort is futile in execution.

Since “turn off your cellphones” was so unpopular, the TSA is now implementing a “turn ON your cellphones” rule http://t.co/TJJUoYaz...

@tcrawford can't imagine how happy someone will be leaving their laptop, ipad, or smartphone behind. I'd be pissed
Tim Crawford
Exactly! No way will they be able to pull this off. Hypothetically, they can confiscate your laptop too. But I can't imagine that goes over well.
Jim Canto
Interesting. Just this weekend, I was wondering about all the electronic smoking devices people must be carrying on. Many of which could just as easily conceal the materials and mechanisms needed. Seems a real vulnerability.
Jim Canto
But the idea of leaving my communication device behind? Oh hellllll'NO. Guess this makes room for a "short-term device rental" business. This will also mean each of us will be even more reliant on cloud technologies.
John Furrier
@JimCanto @tcrawford I agree with you guys 200% this won't fly at all
Jim Canto
@tcrawford ... so I guess we'll have to enter the security line with all devices turned on or else wait times skyrocket.
Stephen
How long until not only does the device have to be powered on, but it must also be "logged in" to make sure it is more than just some basic "splash screen"?
John Furrier
@stephen_itsm I don't get this entire logic of the program. They have to have some workflow there to assist folks with dead devices;
Jim Canto
It almost doesn't matter if we plug this hole. Another vulnerability will appear. Where does it end? Ground all flights?!?

Plz lets not kid ourselves into false security. H.S announcement to the world about new directive is showing where the peanut is before asking to locate its whereabouts. TSA & Homeland Security Big waste of my tax $$ #techcrowd

@musicmaiden4 ...what approach has zero vulnerabilities?

I would like to build a web platform www.worldculture.pl

I'd be incensed if they tried to get me to leave a device behind. This is unenforcable, in my opinion.
