Thoughts on ScaleIO in #SAP client scenarios?
Carsten Nitschke
This is a great solution. Brutal Fast Speed and simple deployment. Would wonder if #Flash will be the new #memory ?
Sylvie Otten (Sollod
@Daven007 - join the chat to engage here - this is your baby.
Henrik Wagner
is it a good fit for HEC partners? @cstreubert
Carsten Nitschke I see it especially for on-premise customers. #simplification
Michael Leeper
ScaleIO should bring some new opportunities to provide needed speed without having to replatfrom at the app layer. Will be interesting to watch EMC Project Nile/ViPR in the same space also.
Rob Steele looks like you beat me to it :)
Rob Steele
Henrik, I think ScaleIO is a great solution, but I would want to take it a step further and add #ViPR into the mix.
Rob Steele Cartsen, as companies shift to a #SDDC the storage platform or how the underlying storage is setup should no longer matter.
Michael Leeper it still matters in the same way compute still matters in the hypervisor world now. You just have more ways to get value out of your investment
Rob Steele True Michael, as you will still need the resources under the scenes to accomplish your application requirements. The goal is to allow software to automate and tier your physical resources.
David Nicholson
ScaleIO is a powerful solution in this context since it leverages parallelism and hyper-convergence. This is a big subject.
Henrik Wagner what reception are you seeing in SAP clients environments?
John Furrier
What is this communities opinion of the open source impact to cloud & big data in context to the customers needs and opportunities?
Carsten Nitschke
OpenSource is probably one of the strongest drivers of Cloud Adoption. This is a great example how markets are being created
Dean of Big Data
open source tools, and now open source data, are the wave of the future. Must embrace. Can't fight it long-term without drowning.
Michael Leeper
OpenSource options will show how things could be done sooner in same cases and will allow bushiness to choose how fast and how far they want want to change.
Henrik Wagner
drives choices for flexible deployments. Most #SAP clients end up using proven technologies such as VMW due to the mission critical nature of the workload
Henrik Wagner
in the Big Data space open source is thriving! Look at the possible solution options for solving Analytics challenges
John Furrier
I wonder if someone out there right now is building an opensource version of #hana? I love this market the game is changing fast. Any thoughts on what is out there that changes the game (technology)?
Michael Hiskey #Presto, #Spark making attempts - but recognize #Hadoop as the to-be data storage system of record (as opp. to DW)
Michael Leeper
Can we get an explanation of what Project Jupiter really is?
Henrik Wagner
the EMC Jupiter platform is a purpose built system embracing the concept of data temperatures in a SAP centric view
Carsten Nitschke can you share more details on #HANA & #Temperatures ?
Henrik Wagner @cochesdiez I shared some info on this strategy on this post http://henrikwagner.wordpress.com/2013/09/24/the-sap-big-data-bus-are-you-on-it-or-under-it/
The SAP Big Data Bus: Are you on it or under it?
The picture is now crystal clear for me around SAP’s Big Data strategy for existing/new clients and for eco-system partners announced a few weeks ago. Also very cool that SAP created an SAP Big Dat...
Sylvie Otten (Sollod
It's an answer to how do you tie unstructured data with structured data together and put the right data on the right analytical tier at the right time to extract value from the “Enterprise Data Lake"
Carsten Nitschke This solution could be very interesting especially for large customers. How far is the project ?
Henrik Wagner
the platform also makes it easier for clients to adopt a big data strategy at the right TCO to derive outcomes for business people
Sylvie Otten (Sollod Simplification to drive business outcomes!
Andy Sitison
Its a way you can have your HANA and your Hadoop too #EMCelect #SAPMentors
John Furrier
How long has the EMC Elect community been around and what is the make up of it's participants? I like the idea of self formed communities and sharing like this.
☣ Sean Thulin ☣
The Elect community is in it's 2nd full year and is made up of Customers, Independent Influencers, Partners, and EMC Employees.
Mark Browne
We are in our 2nd Year, it is made up of peer nominated customers, partners and employees. these are celebrated community advocates who are passionate about their interests
☣ Sean Thulin ☣
The community existed unofficially before we launched the EMC Elect program as manny of the members would collaborate on twitter, blogs, and ECN (http://community.emc.com) on their own.
Mark Browne
EMC was aware that we had passionate advocates of EMC both inside and out, who were outside the spin and marketing, just honest Tech. We wanted to recognize them for contribution and build a more closer community focused relationship.
Henrik Wagner
@sthulin which year will we adopt Soccer Jerseys? #EMCElect thinking Real Madrid style :-)
Dean of Big Data
What are the biggest challenges for an SAP customer moving into the big data space? #SAPMentors #EMCelect
John Furrier
The biggest challenge is do they go outside of SAP for new solutions. It's hard to be one stop shop for big data.
Dean of Big Data Agreed. The days of the one-stop shop for all your data needs are gone
John Furrier
Improve agility & reduce TCO of SAP application infrastructure is huge.
Sylvie Otten (Sollod And we've seen some great results with customers leveraging EMC & SAP to do exactly that! - @mleeper perhaps can talk to that.
John Furrier
using big data across cloud architectures is huge SAP #bigdata must work across multiple clouds
Henrik Wagner
finding relevant use cases and the be able to execute a strategy with the right TCO to quickly get to business outcomes!
Carsten Nitschke
I would say that one of the biggest challenge is that most companies do not know what they want to achieve with BigData
John Furrier
As "earned media" becomes the community preference how do communities adjust their content plans in context to "paid and owned media" - this is a big opportunity we see to crowd power http://goo.gl/csxyt8

Andy Sitison
Whats this got to do with SAP topic?
Dean of Big Data Maybe an interesting discussion with SAP and other large enterprise software providers about monetization models of the future
John Furrier I was just observing how communities are operating and Emc elect and SAP mentors are very good groups.. I love group conversations. I'll table it now
Henrik Wagner
what are you guys doing in addition to #Crowdchat to accelerate this?
Sylvie Otten (Sollod
How can #EMCElect & #SAPMentors working together help accelerate customers' move to the 3rd platform?
Crowd Captain
what is the experience with SAP communities do they do anything outside of their communities on sap.com
Sylvie Otten (Sollod Lots of blogging on SCN, SAPHANA.com and other SAP Customer watering holes. Here's a good example http://scn.sap.com/community/business-intelligence/blog/2013/12/29/using-hana-and-hadoop-key-scenarios
Welcome | SAP HANA
SAP HANA converges database and application platform capabilities in-memory to transform transactions, analytics, text analysis, predictive and spatial processing so businesses can operate in real-time. Learn More
Crowd Captain SAP seems to be very insular in their communications they make you login to all their communities #oldschool
Mark Browne
I think they share a common curiosity about the 3rd platform and are both community focused to learn and share information with each other and their broader communities
Henrik Wagner
I believe the key here is collaboration! Both #EMC & #SAP has a massive install base with clients looking to adopt the 3rd platform. @mleeper your thoughts?
John Furrier
Question: How is EMC and SAP collaborating to help customers innovate? Be specific.
Sylvie Otten (Sollod
EMC & SAP are collaborating to help customers innovate around SAP HANA driving new rationales for adoption - like Project Jupiter. Data temperatures to drive greater efficiencies.
Dean of Big Data
SAP provides wealth of operational data. We look for opportunities to augment with external data sources to uncover new customer and product insights
Henrik Wagner
a ton of the innovation comes from customer scenarios when SAP & EMC is at the table collaborating to solve a SAP client challenge
Sylvie Otten (Sollod In fact we have a good example coming up next week with #SAPWeek @EMC EBC in Santa Clara - sign up for March 5th & 6th! There's still room! http://t.co/VDbW3hmqJk
Henrik Wagner
one example of this is the great work @virtualwonton is doing w EMC, SAP & Puppet around Advanced Orchestration http://itechthereforeiam.com/2014/01/vmware-puppet-emc-and-sap-better-together/
Henrik Wagner I called it "#Uber Automate your SAP landscape" in a '13 blog post http://henrikwagner.wordpress.com/2013/06/14/uber-automate-your-sap-landscape/
“Uber” Automate your SAP Landscape
There is a huge opportunity to modernize the legacy platforms that SAP customers are running on in order to: lower overall costs, increase agility, reduce risk, and free up funds for innovation to ...
John Furrier
What are some of the big ideas and innovation that EMC is working on that the community is super excited by?
Dean of Big Data
Helping transition traditional BI to be more #BigData aware
Mark Browne
there are lots :) the Community is curious and excited about Hana, the Third platform, Scale IO and ViPR
Mark Browne
and thats just naming a few
Sylvie Otten (Sollod
Project Jupiter is a biggie specific to driving adoption of SAP HANA. We're working with our partners, and SAP & Partners are super excited about it. Hear more at #SAPWeek http://t.co/VDbW3hmqJk
Henrik Wagner
I actually also think we are approaching our clients in a unique vehicles like #SAPWeek programs. This is a platform to drive innovation & collaboration

Henrik Wagner
what interaction do you find valuable with other groups such as vExperts, Cisco Champions, SAP Mentors?
Michael Leeper For me it is the discussion between groups that are clearly passionate and well connected about their area. No BS and no sales guys, just really great tech!
Mark Browne First is the community of very social, technical advocates, second is their curiosity and excitement about the tech Industry. And most of all is the collaborative engagement they are excellent at.
☣ Sean Thulin ☣ The overlap that the parent organizations offer allow for great collaboration opportunities between the different communities.
