low-code

Low Code/ No-Code
By 2024, 75% of large enterprises will be using at least four low-code development tools for both IT application development and citizen development initiatives. (Gartner)

Define your north star – LowCode /NoCode with DevOps?
TracyBannon
Yes! Some of the platforms include their own develops tooling. So that means we still need to be concerned about the process and humans in the mix!
TracyBannon
Designing for use of low code and no code platforms is a bit different as well. It’s not completely Greenfield as it is with total custom dev.

Helping organizations to release changes in less time and efforts with high returns
Vishnu Vasudevan
reduced learning curve, reduced effort but increasing the speed to market - any platform which can solve the needs of devops team will be THE NORTH STAR..
TracyBannon
I don’t want to have a separate of upstream. I want to have a team that works together from vision through continuous improvement
Garima Bajpai
What do you refer to as LowCode/NoCode, common LC/NC functionality?
Vishnu Vasudevan
Increase in productivity, speed to market, increase in velocity helping ppl deliver better and quality software

Garima Bajpai
Is it about people and technology
Vishnu Vasudevan
it depends and i have seen SaaS developers lean towards love code/no code
Sriram RJ
Build high quality lean software
TracyBannon
-
Nontraditional individuals, such as a business expert, can become quite effective and proficient at creating applications that they love that empowering them to move more quickly. Those are folks being called citizen developers.

TracyBannon
We also have to agree on what we mean by low code and no code platforms.
Garima Bajpai
Democratization of software ?
TracyBannon
@vishnube - I agree and I’ve seen the same thing. Developers who have implemented ERP systems tend to love low code environments.
TracyBannon
- I agree though we still need to have the open dialogue about development versus production. That topics not getting a lot of Air play from the low code community.
Garima Bajpai
What is key business value of LC/NC, how organization benefit?
Garima Bajpai
it is unquantified - but accelerated development development by X
Garima Bajpai
Simplification and automation of application portfolio reduced cost
Sriram RJ
Organizations will start accounting their internal processes first and then move on to core business applications.. The actual benefit will be realized in latter stages
TracyBannon
Faster delivery of business value.
Vishnu Vasudevan
reduces cost for the business and also helps business to release the functional requirements to production by having boilerplate templates.
TracyBannon
There still needs to be governance as part of the mix.
TracyBannon
Time will tell on the reduction of cost, quite frankly.
Garima Bajpai
how is software license model changing with nc/lc
TracyBannon
It’s the same story that we heard with cloud. It’s not always cheaper.
TracyBannon
- that’s a really great question! Some of the platforms have a subscription-based model per dev. Others have it on end-user volume… and still others are depending on where it’s hosted and how it’s hosted
Sriram RJ
licensing model could be disruptive but may not be cheaper in all cases.. depends on the end users and consumers
TracyBannon
@RjSriram15 - some of the vendors have done some pretty smart things. If you think about the Microsoft approach. Many organizations have enterprise licenses for office 365 and they have added in the power apps platform under the EULA.
TracyBannon
In some organizations, I’m finding business wants IT to get out of their way and so they are leaning towards platforms as a way to speed up getting the capabilities that they need as quickly as possible

Garima Bajpai
how the software technology market would be impacted ?
TracyBannon
It’s a big pivot. Custom development houses are now cranking out platforms. Nontraditional developers, the Citizen developers, are coming from all different backgrounds and giving us many more hands to build the software we need.
Garima Bajpai
how is the competitive market looking like ?
Garima Bajpai
Impact of convergence of DevOps with LowCode/NoCode, how it can help reduce technical debt inLC/NC platforms?
Vishnu Vasudevan
Devops teams doesn't have to invest much on the technical debt because the platform is going to adapt and fill the gap for most part on the tech debt.
Sriram RJ
@bajpaigarima1Emergence of AIPs will help organizations in driving LC/NC
Garima Bajpai
open-source no code/lowcode platforms #lowcode
TracyBannon
There are still tech Dept with low code/ no code… The face of it is a little bit different. Often times you have many different teams that are developing in parallel and there’s a lot of duplication of items that could be considered common features or common services.
Garima Bajpai
steering decision around code /no-code platform
Sriram RJ
Technical debt is critical to SDLC. But organizations should choose on the impact of the debt in their codes. Debts have to be either recovered, restructured or written off.. Not all debts can be recovered.. :)
TracyBannon
@RjSriram15 - not all debt needs to be paid down either.
TracyBannon
Low code and no code need to be part of the broader enterprise ecosystem. What are some of the things that need to change to allow that to happen?
Garima Bajpai
distrupt the software Bill
