Hi from Boston, MA
Stuart Miniman
Many organizations that initially deployed HCI for VDI have expanded to also run business critical workloads - what has your experience been?
Segundo Ramos
A1: #VDI continues as pillar #HCI use case - even accelerated due to extensive pandemic #WFH deployments. In parallel clearly expanded into wide range of workloads from business critical (#SAP #SQL #Oracle #AI #ML) to next gen (#PKS, #Containers #Kubernetes #NoSQL)
Rodrigo Gazzaneo
first #VxRail customers in Brazil and Latin America 3-4 years ago were mostly consolidating generic virtual workloads rather than deploying #VDI and it was easy to jump to production workloads as the nodes got more powerful
Shannon Champion
- The power of “operational freedom” is real with VxRail despite the workload.
Keith Townsend - Light will overcome darkness
I've seen a push to try to use HCI for more general pods. Customers I talk to still prefer a 3-tier architecture for general pods. HCI has become a great "appliance" architecture and a wonderful platform for SMB.
Rodrigo Gazzaneo
@smchampion and if 2020 will finally be the #YearOfVDI then #VxRail will be perfect solution!
Jason Marques
Shannon is right. And it's with this consistent operations experience that allows customers to use VxRail as the foundation for not just workloads, but also their hybrid cloud! Consistent infrastructure with consistent operations = WIN! :)
Dave Vellante
VDI of course is back in vogue with the #WFH pivot
Shawna Meyer-Ravelli
@vWhipperSnapper Consistent infrastructure matters, which is inclusive of the processing technology. VMware optimizations for Intel processors on #VxRail allow for seamless migration for hybrid cloud. #Intel #iamintel
Segundo Ramos
Absolutely! #HCI has entered a new era conquering #Databases, Logging, #Analytics, #AI, #ML, #DataProtection, file sharing/storage, #Edge computing, #Ruggerized environments, #VDI, next-gen test/devops within #VMs #containers #Kubernetes – mix and match!
Rodrigo Gazzaneo
@CTOAdvisor with @DellTech portfolio you can have it all. #HCI and @DellEMCStorage Validated Design workload domains side by side and it becomes a workload placement conversation.
Keith Townsend - Light will overcome darkness
The biggest pain point has been disjointed operating models. VCF has promise but HCI in the enterprise has been just another platform to manage. When you have VMAX/PowerMAX, Isilon, and VxRAIL/RACK that's a lot of overhead.
Chad Dunn
We have seen large customers start at the edge and then allow #VxRail to proliferate into their core and we have also seen the opposite. The economics of HCI make sense in both places
Rodrigo Gazzaneo
@dvellante maybe 2020 will finally be the #YearOfVDI
David Glynn
@CTOAdvisor Get the best of both worlds with FC cards in your #VxRail
Rob Steele
@CTOAdvisor great points, we see customers leveraging both vxrail and 3-tier, and as they modernizing applications more and more tends to land on vxrail.
Chad Dunn
Would love to know how many folks are leveraging the Fibre Channel interfaces.
Rodrigo Gazzaneo
@CTOAdvisor you can have @DellEMCStorage #PowerMax Validated Design solution with @vmwarevcf now
Jeremy Merrill
@RobSteele @CTOAdvisor - that's a great point! You don't have to buy into HCI 100%. That's part of the value Dell Technologies provides - the right platform for the right solution!
Jason Marques
@CTOAdvisor @vGazza With DTCP, today, customers can leverage the power of the @DellTech portfolio and augment their VxRail HCI infrastructure with external storage all in the same environment! It becomes an AND conversation not an OR. Win win!
Segundo Ramos
Deploying #VxRail for mission critical apps & workloads has become even more compelling w/ @vmwarevcf on #VxRail where apps can be deployed using any combination of #VMs, #containers & #Kubernetes - bridging the management gap & making hybrid cloud a reality!
Keith Townsend - Light will overcome darkness
@RobSteele If customers can standardize on an HCI platform, there's clear hybrid-infrastructure/cloud benefits. It's tough to get consensus on a single platform within large organizations. Things like application certification remain a challenge.
Lee Caswell
VxRail has a common control plane with storage through vVols and VCF. It's a powerful and unique way to extend consistent operations across HCI and storage.
Rob Steele
@CTOAdvisor absolutely! Thats why larger orgs typically have both.
Jason Marques
@CTOAdvisor DTCP = Dell Technologies Cloud Platform (VMware Cloud Foundation on VxRail)
Chad Dunn
I don't know about the other #VxRail team members but my family is really sick of me pointing at a business, a tv show, a movie, a car etc and saying, "Guess what? Rail Customer" :-) The diversity of use cases is so cool.
Jeremy Merrill
@VXchad same here!! It's even made it to conversations with my parents.
Lee Caswell
Databases are now the leading workload on HCI
