Yes. 5G will surely act as a catalyst for #manufacturing industry. Imagine 5G + IOT
Dez Blanchfield
@dave_van_dor - it seems that #5G is going to be a massive boon for the types of data we have been wanting to ship around factory infra from both machines/ robots and sensors etc. #ManufacturingTechTalk @ATTBusiness #ATTInfluencer
Evan Kirstel
A2 #5G will give us more real-time manufacturing monitoring: video feeds could be monitored and alerted for defects, assembly, temperature changes etc #manufacturingtechtalk #ATTinfluencer
Dave Van Dorselaer
@hareemca For sure, 5G will enable all kinds of new IOT use cases
Dez Blanchfield
@sstoesser - this is literally my life's mission.. we've seen already that life is so much better when we can have machines to the dangerous and messy work and humans do the thinking and smart work #ManufacturingTechTalk @ATTBusiness #ATTInfluencer
Kevin L. Jackson - (ISC)2 CCSP, Swansea, UK
A2. #5G delivers and opportunity to integrate gateways for cross-data center and cross-domain connectivity which can be leverage for new products and services. #ManufacturingTechTalk #ATTInfluencer #ATTmanufacturing @ATTBusiness
Dez Blanchfield
@Kevin_Jackson - do you think we'll see it still go to a central cloud style design pattern or will we see #edge give us a pivot to this? #ManufacturingTechTalk @ATTBusiness #ATTInfluencer
Hareem Ul Haque 🇨🇦
Biggest impact of 5G will be on shipping and supply chain management #5Gfuture
Hareem Ul Haque 🇨🇦
@dave_van_dor True. Imagine what 5G can do for Tele-medicine.
Joanne Moretti
OK I'm back. So speed is critical, but nothing compared to banking, where speed and latency are everything. In manufacturing you generally don't want to sacrifice quality for speed, because the customer experience must be perfect on the end point.
Joanne Moretti
But certainly shortening and compressing processes is important. The design to prototype process, or the ramp up process getting a factory tooled, supply chain in place, etc. Those are big processes which need data and speed
Joanne Moretti
manufacturers are experimenting with different tools to help mitigate human error, defects and improve on time delivery and keep all those things balanced, so as not to throw any one thing off.
Eisaiah Engel
@hareemca speaking of which, I was really excited to learn last night about @practo -- #ayurveda doctors available 24/7
Joanne Moretti
When you can take an idea from a napkin and iterate quickly, because you need to get to an investor meeting with a prototype, that's important. When you need to get a product to market during a new product introduction, in time for holiday season, speed is impor
Hareem Ul Haque 🇨🇦
@eisaiah_e You just made my day. This is a great example.
Joanne Moretti
so again there instances where speed is important, but quality and cost play a big role, and so engineers and manufacturers don't like to rush anything, they strive for operational excellence. In such a case, AI and predictive analytics is great for predicting
Eisaiah Engel
@hareemca Well, @pardo made my night. I sent a text to my gf at 11pm -- I FOUND AYURVEDAAAA! So, now I need to figure out how to get money into the platform since I'm not in India.
Joanne Moretti
failure rates, as was the case with a Microsoft Azure AI app we built that watched an SMT line carefully and predicted failures ahead of time, which prevent all types of havoc. I will try to find that case study as well.
Eisaiah Engel
@hareemca perhaps! India has some great tech companies.
Joanne Moretti
innovating the manufacturing process is also important, and digital twins were adopted by our R&D teams to see what could be modeled and then put out on the manufacturing floor. Innovating a process could lead to innovating a new product feature also.
Joanne Moretti
innovation in the supply chain, in the manufacturing process and in the design process, are all critical and companies should continue to apply cloud, edge, big data, ai, AR and other new tech to drive that innovation
Hareem Ul Haque 🇨🇦
@eisaiah_e Yes indeed they do have. All about proper leadership. Indians saw opportunity in tech a long time ago and capitalized on it.
Kevin L. Jackson - (ISC)2 CCSP, Swansea, UK
Industry-focused clouds with evolve to vertically integrated #clouds with #manufacturing companies near the top of the supply chain. #ManufacturingTechTalk #ATTInfluencer #ATTmanufacturing @ATTBusiness
Joanne Moretti
@JoannMoretti here is the Microsoft Brainwave case study - AI/ML in action in manufacturing. saved us millions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QczMh07UkEE

Q1. How can Manufacturing gain most value from a shift from a #Technology focus to a #Business focus, by not just “making” Widgets, but offering Widget “services”? #ManufacturingTechTalk @ATTBusiness #ATTInfluencer https://www.crowdchat.net/s/75ugl

Dave Van Dorselaer
A1. Providing insights = $$$! This allows for customers & companies to make better informed decisions. #ATTManufacturing #ManufacturingTechTalk
Evan Kirstel
Manufacturing is no longer simply about making physical products! New market entrants with access to new tools can operate at much smaller scale, enabling them to create new offerings!
Eisaiah Engel
@dave_van_dor would be curious how #wearables might be an accelerator in helping companies synthesize insights from data. What are your thoughts @DrHassanRashidi @WearablesExpert?
Joanne Moretti
sorry I was off talking about 3Dprinting and digital threads above. But in manufacturing data is everything, and can help manufacturers create new and accretive business models/revenue streams in a few ways
Kevin L. Jackson - (ISC)2 CCSP, Swansea, UK
A1. In the cloud computing age, the key is leveraging data. New business models that connect data sources and sinks. #ATTInfluencer #ATTmanufacturing @ATTBusiness #ManufacturingTechTalk
✨Sarah Groves✨
A1. Data will drive insights and allow manufacturers to proactively determine what services are needed. #iot @ATTBusiness #ATTManufacturing #ManufacturingTechTalk
Hareem Ul Haque 🇨🇦
data data data is new product
Dez Blanchfield
@dave_van_dor - great point, we used to say "time" was money but now it seems "insights" are money..
Joanne Moretti
examples: service offerings re: maintenance, customization/personalization as close to source as you want to get it. Data and designs will be the value drivers, and through connected #Swarmmanufacturing, #3DPrinters and #Robots can work together to deliver on-d
Kevin L. Jackson - (ISC)2 CCSP, Swansea, UK
A1. Every company is a data company. Review the organization’s data for use in innovative ways. #ManufacturingTechTalk #ATTInfluencer #ATTmanufacturing @ATTBusiness
Joanne Moretti
then there is the entire notion of digital supply chain management, and taking risk out of the supply chain, by having real time visibility on suppliers and information about products, assemblies, raw materials, etc. is hugely valuable.
Hareem Ul Haque 🇨🇦
@Kevin_Jackson data “insights” will surely lead to new innovations & new products. Imagine the impact driverless tech will do to the Auto manufacturing industry.
Joanne Moretti
the key will be to feed sales data into the supply chain, so realtime demand planning can be done, special offers when there is overstock, etc. sales and supplychain aren't connected enough today, and this is a really interesting area.
Kevin L. Jackson - (ISC)2 CCSP, Swansea, UK
@hareemca Every business is a data business! the new innovative business models recognize that.
Kevin L. Jackson - (ISC)2 CCSP, Swansea, UK
A1. Make your current “widgets” into advanced “sensors”. This may mean morphing your current business model. #ManufacturingTechTalk #ATTInfluencer #ATTmanufacturing @ATTBusiness
Dez Blanchfield
@hareemca - great point - I see lots of folk saying "data is the new oil" ;-) #ManufacturingTechTalk @ATTBusiness #ATTInfluencer
Joanne Moretti
the best use case for digital supply chain was the ability to see impact or risk in the supply chain, and do supply chain re-configuration to determine better/lowest landed cost. a digital supply chain is an incredible business tool, but can also be monetized
Hareem Ul Haque 🇨🇦
@Kevin_Jackson I recently saw F1 team use the cloud to do air flow modelling for the new generation of F1-electric race cars. The amount of data consumed per race is insane.
Joanne Moretti
let me give you concrete example: hurricane in asia, it would take a ton of people with a lot of spreadsheets and sometimes days to figure out which suppliers were impacted. With realtime supply chain visibility you can lift the fog and see impact across
Joanne Moretti
across any geography, and get immediate impact analysis and reconfiguration suggestions.
Joanne Moretti
OK I gotta go to another meeting, if anyone needs any help with manufacturing or high-tech go-to-market strategy or digital marketing support let me know. :) :) :)
Hareem Ul Haque 🇨🇦
data = next trillion dollar frontier.
Joanne Moretti
@hareemca F1 owns that data, believe it or not, and sells it back to the the teams. They implemented that a few years ago, and any data that occurs on an F1 track is the property of the F1 org. They are making loads of cash off that app.
Clara Hustad
@JoannMoretti You'll be missed! learning so much from you.
Dave Van Dorselaer
@JoannMoretti Thanks for joining and contributing! nice to meet you.
Joanne Moretti
thanks everyone, it's difficult to get all the points across excuse my spelling and grammar. see you guys later.
Hareem Ul Haque 🇨🇦
@JoannMoretti good strategy. I was surprised by the amount of GPU instances used by F1 just for fluid dynamics. That’s a lot of computational power.
