Amit Madhan
As I head IT as well as eBusiness, I spend a larger share of my time on business strategy & growth. Working closely with IT team helps me understand their concerns as well. #MakeITSmart
Amit Madhan
It helps me get both perspectives because of which I am able to take critical decision on process and prioritise to get maximum RoI and growth. #MakeITSmart

(1/7) Digital Technology is becoming an integral part of our daily lives with digitization & innovation taking center stage. Thus, we focus on day-to-day IT operations & innovating tech much faster than ever before to succeed in fast paced & disruptive environment.
Vivekanand Manjeri
Got it Amit. In my role I also see more CIO's getting a seat in making Business Decisions. Your share of time on Strategy seems to align to this trend

(2/7) Collaboration with business & spending time on showcasing differentiated internal & external customer experiences through a Digital First approach is the first most priority for the success of CIOs. #MakeITSmart
Anis Pankhania

According to IDC, 60% of CIOs will be replaced by CDOs for the delivery of IT-enabled products and digital services by 2020. Any thoughts on this? Or it is just another predictions to create fear.
Vivekanand Manjeri
Agree Anis. Collaboration with Business is key when CIOs drive Digital transformation across most Industry Verticals. In Telcos, IT and Business are closely interlinked and your point is bang on!
Chaitanya Wagh
Simplifying IT Operations and investing time in business compliments each other. Unless IT Operations are simplified, streamlined, a CIO will not be able to give time to Business strategy. #MakeITSmart
Chaitanya Wagh
And unless Business Strategy, its direction is understood; IT operations cannot have right foundation. Therefore, using right technologies and processes for IT Operations based on what business decides as strategy is the key to manage both. #MakeITSmart
Dr Mukesh Mehta
I disagree CDO is temp phase and the role will be managed by Ops/Product team while CIO will always remain core link between Business & Technology
Udit Pahwa
The CDO function will compliment the CIO function as it will enable more bathwidth for the CIO to engage on Business Focused Growth Initiatives. So both will happily co-exist
Ketan Karkhanis
As a head of IT for India, not only I have to ensure smooth IT operations which include systems and applications, but also deliver innovative solutions which add value to my direct and indirect customers. #MakeITSmart
Ketan Karkhanis
For this there is a lot of dialog and discussions with business heads as the IT solutions should be in line with company strategy and focus. #MakeITSmart
Ketan Karkhanis
Most of my team members predominantly handle day to day IT operations but couple of them specifically work closely with business teams to handle the non-operational part of IT viz mostly strategic projects and innovation. #MakeITSmart
Amit Madhan
its just the transformation of role
Subhojit Roy
@DellTe(1/2) There is no straight answer to this question. On daily basis, I list down my tasks and prioritize tasks based on criticality. I note down these tasks/action points from regular & ad hoc meetings at management, inter-departmental and IT team levels. #MakeITSmartchIndi
Amol Jadhav
@ConnectMuks Agreed. But why companies giving more importance to CDO or Digital heads rather than CIOs?
Subhojit Roy
@DellTechIndi(2/2) On longer terms, I try to allocate time for strategic business decisions, innovation and adding value through introspection, knowledge gathering and interactions. #MakeITSmarta
Vivekanand Manjeri
Linking Business & IT Strategy is one of the key focus areas for CIOs in the Digital First era. Agree with you Chaitanya
Udit Pahwa
1/3 - Delegation of authority and responsibility of routine work is one way to free up time from daily schedule and focus on more strategic initiatives.
Dr Mukesh Mehta
I think CIO must equally give same time-bandwidth to Vendors/Partners to explore new technology / products and then showcase to Business on how these stuff can bring more value to Business Strategy
Udit Pahwa
2/3 - Creating SOPs for routine operations coupled with and collaboratively onboarding more business resources into IT operations also ensures reduced time on routine matters.
Udit Pahwa
3/3 - Spending more time with Business Heads and Senior Executives to gather feedback and have a more engaging collaboration for business lead initiatives is the critical path to focus on business strategy and growth.
Vivek Ahuja
(1/3) Outsourcing basic service desk helps us reduce menial task workload from the IT team members. They have more time to support the business in thinking on how we can innovate to help the business grow and harness use of newer technologies. #MakeITSmart
Chaitanya Wagh
As Mukesh said "temp phase". Everyone fancies new role and hope that "new" thing will help stride through all issues of life (organization) !!
Vivek Ahuja
(2/3) Using cloud tech helps in simplifying things where costs & services are linked directly to the business needs, if you don’t want all the bells and whistles, switch them off and don’t pay for them! If and when you want, just enable and pay for what you use! #MakeITSmart
Vivek Ahuja
(3/3) The Cloud has really helped bring about flexibility and dynamic changes in the technology infrastructure to suit business needs and be cost effective. #MakeITSmart
Dr Mukesh Mehta
is this inviting Shadow IT?
Vivekanand Manjeri
@Ketan At Dell, our CIOs closely work with functions like Sales & Marketing to improve their ability to make business critical decisions. Simple tasks like 1 page snapshot of business are made available via Mobile Apps
Amol Jadhav
Thanks Chaitanya Wagh and Mukesh Mehta for your thoughts!
Anamica
As a CIO I think firstly I should hire practical knowledge people rather than bookish parrots as skills are important to handle IT operations. With a team of 6 if one has an efficiency of simplifying problem, he/ she will lead the whole group.
Anamica
And of investing time in business strategy, growth if a company solves it's inside problem and competitors the growth rate will surely increase.
Dr Mukesh Mehta
Business Head is not equipped to handle this ... slowly it will be part of Business Head KRA while Tech (CIO) will be delivering the CDO wish/must list
