FutureTech

The future of workplace tech
Dive into tech advances that will transform our workplaces with @tamaramccleary & @kdTwill.
Kevin Terwilliger
Q6: What does the workforce of today say they need for the future? #FutureTech http://www.via-cc.at...

Will Peterson
A6: The workforce of today needs opportunity for growth, an engaged and focused leadership team, and a plan for action. The #FutureWorkforce will need the same!
Tamara McCleary
A6a Employees need to feel confident they have a role in the organization in the future, even if they are displaced by #tech.
Tamara McCleary
A6b They also need the proper training and tools to deliver on the expectations of their employers.
Debbie Friez
42% of #millennials are likely to quit a job with substandard tech. http://dell.to/2mVBZ... #FutureTech
Jane Anderson
Knowledge sharers instead of knowledge keepers are what we need.
Tamara McCleary
@CathiLane #darkdata and unstructured data are now where we are finding some of our greatest pearls of wisdom in business.
Amy Higgins
A6: Today's #FutureWorkforce needs tech that adds value. Such as adding efficiency with tech to give them time to be creative @kdtwill #FutureTech
Debbie Friez
76% of employees feel tech has had a significant influence on the way they work: http://dell.to/2eIOV... #FutureTech
Cathi Lane
WillPeterson A6c they need a visionary, innovative leadership team #futuretech
Tamara McCleary
@CathiLane in the past we did not have the computing capacity to be able to make sense of #darkdata, but now we are harnessing all the nuggets contained within.
Kevin Terwilliger
It's interesting because 1 in 3 millennials fear that artificial intelligence (AI) could lead to "robots taking their job" but at the same time 75% of millennials agree that AI could make their jobs easier
Tom Poole
agreed re: sharers
Jane Anderson
We need to teach people how to ask good questions too. They say there are no dumb questions, so let's just say there are high octane questions that are relevant and dredge up facts and information that other questions do not.
Debbie Friez
They love and fear #AI it seems! #FutureTech
Tamara McCleary
@dfriez I have the SAME relationship to #chocolate!
Will Peterson
Does that statistic speak to the lack of understanding of, or the potentially limitless application of AI? Or BOTH for the #FutureWorkforce?
Cathi Lane
@JaneAnderson there are always more questions. AI will make the #futureworkforce more curious to ask the right questions that will lead to the next big thing in #futuretech
Jane Anderson
@TamaraMcCleary People will be more satisfied if they feel they are grafted into the vision of the organization and that their contributions are valued.
Knute Sands
A6: The workforce of today needs leadership to embrace that the 9-to-5 "business as usual" model is dying. We're now living in an always-on world. Select employees should be able to work anywhere, and be measured on results versus hours worked.
Tamara McCleary
@JaneAnderson well said. People need work that is meaningful and real...and to feel a part of something greater than themselves.
Tamara McCleary
@JaneAnderson aw! You are a gifted and talented "sharer!"
Tom Poole
@knutesands I feel like my entire career has been always-on and I got my start on #mainframes
Jane Anderson
@knutesands this has been my philosophy since forever. :) So far nobody shares it.
Kevin Terwilliger
Q4: IoT isn’t new, and it seems it is everywhere. How is #IoT affecting how we work? #FutureTech http://www.via-cc.at...

Tamara McCleary
A4a #IoT not only offers opportunities to get greater insight and make quicker decisions, it is also opening new career fields.
Tamara McCleary
A4b How many people 10 years ago would have thought #DataScientist was one of the top fields to pursue for a career?
Kevin Terwilliger
@TamaraMcCleary #IoT is all about connecting the unconnected and once you have the data it is turned into business insights by these critical data scientist
Debbie Friez
A4I find the way data can be updated automatically, saving me time to be a great way #IoT his helping work. #FutureTech
Sarah Luden
Love this @WSJ story about how #IoT @Comfyapp is helping end the office thermostat wars https://www.wsj.com/...
Elizabeth Williams
Exactly! Unlimited potential for shifts in career fields. Automation is letting us work smarter and use our time for more strategy and less mindless tasks.
Tamara McCleary
without meaningful insights into #BigData it's just noise.
Sarah Luden
Especially summertime in Texas outside when it feels like a freezer in your office! How am I supposed to dress for that? Ha!
Debbie Friez
@SarahLuden That was a great story! I"m not sure the thermostat wars have completely ended, thought! #FutureTech
Elizabeth Williams
@TamaraMcCleary 100% We need to computing power to help us analyze big data to put it to work.
Kevin Terwilliger
One of our #IoT customers - @weirgroup is gathering data from their pumps and other equipment out in the field and using the insights to improve their product development process based on the usage data - that is digital transformation!
Jasmine Sampson
As a marketing manager, the term IoT enables me to quickly and easily explain what our solution does. Because of all the hype, it is a well recognised term and therefore makes my job a lot easier! It certainly wasn't as easy trying to explain M2M...
Tom Poole
@tamaramccleary #IoT will be even more valuable to the business when composable and consumable by all employees of companies.
Tamara McCleary
@ElizabethW1057 asking the right question of the data yields the productivity we yearn from #BigData, many companies expect the data to tell them something...but it's in asking the right questions of the data where we glean the golden nuggets.
Amy Higgins
@TamaraMcCleary Great point! I love seeing new job titles to help showcase what is needed #FutureTech
Tamara McCleary
@tom_poole I read you post and I couldn't help but think about #Bacon!
Kevin Terwilliger
@Jasmine can you tell us about the @IMSEvolve solution for refrigeration monitoring and how it changes the workflow of grocery retail workers
Jasmine Sampson
IoT also enables organisations to create new business models, with access to previously un-accessible data businesses can identify areas to release value and generate new revenue streams - it's powerful stuff
Tamara McCleary
@amywhiggins if only I were young again and embarking on a NEW career path! Oh the places I would go with #IoT!
Elizabeth Williams
@TamaraMcCleary Never too late for a change ;)
Amy Higgins
@TamaraMcCleary Interesting point. Do you think that w/ #IoT the data is NOW telling us the answers b4 we ask the ?s
Amy Higgins
@TamaraMcCleary I see new #HR data for grads with #BigData. What career path is there in the future with #FutureTech
Tamara McCleary
@amywhiggins Great question Amy. No, we are in data overload and need the skills to ask the right questions and derive the right answers from the wealth of data we have.
Elizabeth Williams
@amywhiggins Exactly! I think its critical that we keep asking human-informed questions but it sure is convenient when #IoT asks the questions for us too.
Jasmine Sampson
Sure - In some stores, clerks have to manually monitor temperatures to ensure they comply with safety regs, or just assume everything is running effectively. We monitor refrigerators in real time & use predictive maintenance to avoid this
Tamara McCleary
@ElizabethW1057 spot-on! And #IoT asks them A LOT faster! ;) But this is why I'm keen to edge #analytics... and getting rid of the data exhaust.
Kevin Terwilliger
@TamaraMcCleary I like that "getting rid of the data exhaust"
Jasmine Sampson
This frees up staff time but also ensures food quality and food safety - meaning happier customers. A real time view of the refrigeration estate also enables retailers to manage energy consumption and maintenance costs
