NodeInteractive

Node.js Interactive Europe
Previewing the upcoming #NodeInteractive Europe event.
Node.js
Q2) What are you most excited for at #NodeInteractive Europe?
Mikeal Rogers
The AI and Machine Learning content, which is a subject I haven't seen much about in Node.js before! :)
Tracy
Listening and learning from all the humans. Sometimes online isn't enough. Rad in-person discussions about what we all work hard on is what I'm really stoked about.
Todd Moore
I'm most excited about seeing the reaction to the talks the foundation has lined up for #nodeinteractive . My team has been working hard to get theirs together
Danese Cooper
I reviewed the schedule yesterday, and I agree the AI stuff looks interesting, but so do most of the Node Everywhere talks
Amez
also the iOT and arduino stuff
Josue Rodriguez
is there any way to import tensorflow library for use with nodejs?
Node.js
Every talk will be awesome #NodeInteractive!
ʇpıɯɥɔs sıɹɥɔ
Happy to see more node security talks happening around the world!
Benjamin Lupton
the three track system is great, I can attend in person the exciting topics that are new to me, and then watch recordings at home to get updated on more familiar topics
Ross Kukulinski
I'm excited to run into friends from the node community that I don't get to see very often. Yay humans!
Danese Cooper
.@carne totally agree, More awareness of Node security is good!
Todd Moore
@carne you should catch Michael Dawsons FIPS comes to node.js
Node.js
Q4) I’m new to Node.js. Is there content and tracks for me? #NodeInteractive
Tracy
We're lucky to have @node_together and @NodeSchoolAMS offering sessions during the event. A lot of great talks that won't lose newer devs in the weeds, but also good speakers who can explain things well.
Mikeal Rogers
Yup! There's a panel for first time contributors to Node.js and lots on introductions to Electron, IoT, and other topics.
Ross Kukulinski
@hackygolucky is it too late to volunteer as a mentor for those events?
Danese Cooper
If you're new, you should definitely seek out speakers to say "Hi" to. #NodeInteractive is a friendly place, and newbies get a lot of support.
Tracy
@rosskukulinski @nodejs Not at all! I recommend reaching out to @ag_dubs and @jp10k who are handling @node_together and @nodeschool at NI EU. (or DM me and I can intro)
Benjamin Lupton
beginners will gain a lot, the 3 track system is packed with beneficial talks
Benjamin Lupton
@HackyGoLucky that's great, when are the @nodeschool and @node_together events happening?
Danese Cooper
.@balupton I'm looking forward to my first @node_together
Tracy
@balupton @nodejs The @node_together is the evening of Sept. 14, there will be a teacher training during #nodeinteractive on Sept. 15, and @nodeschool is Sept. 16 all day. (we'll have it on the agenda shortly)
r\m/ -rf
If you're completely new to Node or if you have a background in frontend development then @node_together would be a good choice.
r\m/ -rf
For #NodeInteractive we'll focus on somewhat more advanced workshoppers, we'll post them soon :D
Node.js
Q8) What are some of the biggest changes you’ve seen with Node.js over the last few years? #NodeInteractive
Mikeal Rogers
well, we went from 7 committers to more than 70 committers in about a year ;)
Ashley Brisco
I would have to say the sheer growth in the community and diversity of use for it
Todd Moore
5 million unique users now versus 2.5 Million a year ago
Danese Cooper
I get to hang out with several open source communities. @Node.js definitely is the fastest growing right now. It's pretty exciting to see so many people finding Node joy! #NodeInteractive is a great place to connect with all of it.
Tracy
So many communities building up into a global project. @nodeschool @nodebots @node_together @nodegirls_LDN @NodeGirlsSydney so many awesome confs and meetups. We've got a long way to go but it's a cool start.
Todd Moore
javascript is number 1 in the Redmonk ratings and Github
Benjamin Lupton
it's been great to see the project grow from one man, to a company, to a foundation 🏅
Node.js
Q6) What makes Node.js Interactive different than other Node events? #NodeInteractive
Tracy
Definitely the unique set of people that will be together and sharing what they’d like the future of @nodejs to be.
Mikeal Rogers
More of the contributors driving the project are in attendance than other event I know of. The foundation events also attract a broader range of users that other events I've been to.
Ashley Brisco
i would think the foundation's broad reach and enterprise focus would bring unique perspectives / sessions. Im seeing a really broad set of topics on the agenda
Danese Cooper
One of the goals of creating the @nodejs Foundation was to have resources to create larger magnet events. The many local conferences are great, but #NodeInteractive brings together everybody. Good place to bring prospective clients as well.
Todd Moore
@abrisco1999 yes you are correct, but I like what @mikeal said, as the developer presence and access to them is great
Node.js
Q3) What would you like people to get out of (or what are you hoping to get out of) #NodeInteractive?
Tracy
A feeling that folks have something to offer and can contribute—be it writing, coding, mentoring, events, being kind/teaching others. #nodeinteractive
Danese Cooper
Well, it's in Amsterdam (a city I love) so I'm looking forward to being there. Getting the EU perspective on Node community issues is my #1 goal #NodeInteractive
Mikeal Rogers
I want to see people expand their ideas about what is possible with Node.js. Just because you're a new web developer doesn't mean you can't make desktop and IoT apps :)
Todd Moore
@mikeal good point! There is content that spans a lot of ground. That is probably the best part about node.js
Pliby
Hi everyone! We would like people to get out of the mindset that node.js is still young to heavily leverage on in production;
Benjamin Lupton
via my talk, I'll help node.js devs make & use compiled packages quicker and with more control! https://eventmobi.co...
Ashley Brisco
@plibymusic @nodejs totally agree! Its way beyond the 'toy' stage and squarely positioned for large scale production. great point
Node.js
Alright, let's begin, first question: Q1) Why do you think it’s important to attend/participate in #NodeInteractive?
Tracy
The humans!: community & core contributors, WGs, Foundation, ecosystem, @nodeschool, @node_together, sharing the future of the project in person. Really awesome way to discuss your interests.
Mikeal Rogers
the foundation puts together a healthy blend of users and contributors to Node.js, which is a great environment to be in for a few days.
Danese Cooper
I had a blast at the last #NodeInteractive in the US. It was very well attended and really buzzed with Node goodness
Todd Moore
community really comes together at these events. To me making a friend is the main reason. This is the chance for relationships that last and to learn from others
Λltessaire
I like tomatoes ^^'
Benjamin Lupton
I'm really looking forward to collaborating with the node.js global movement, this conference will be the epicentre for that!
